There is a new and exciting development on the Internet. It is usually advertised as "Get paid to surf the Web!" or "Get paid to read email!". What is really happening is that these companies are lining up advertisers on one side & Internet users on the other & acting as a kind of matchmaker. The advertisers get to deliver their message to a targeted audience and the targeted audience gets to get paid directly from part of the advertising revenue. Everybody wins!
In the "Get paid to surf the Web" programs a small section of the Internet user's screen is used to display advertisements while the user is connected to the Internet. The user gets paid either by the hour or as a % of the ad revenue generated.
In the "Get paid to read Email" programs the Internet user simply agrees to receive Email advertisements. Some programs require an Email response, some do not, some ask you to click to the advertiser's site. The Internet user is paid a flat or variable rate for each Email piece.
All of these programs encourage you to tell your friends and family & get them to sign up as well. In return you will get paid from their activities as well as you own. Some programs support this several levels deep so you could end up making money off of your friend's sister's uncle's ex-wife! These are called referrals and you will earn from your referrals at a lower rate than the rate you are paid for your own direct activity. The earnings of the person referred is not reduced or otherwise affected by the fact that you are getting paid for their activity.
I have tried to gather together some basic data on all of these programs in the tables below. I provide this information in good faith and while believed to be accurate, no guarantees are made and I shall not be liable for any errors or omissions. Feel free to use this table as a guide, but to be sure of the most up-to-date information you should visit the site in question by clicking on the program name.
The MOST IMPORTANT STRATEGY for "Get paid to surf the Web" programs is to sign up for several programs. This is because most of them have a limit on how many hours a month you can get paid for. If you think you or your referrals may exceed this limit you might want to sign up for several programs so that when you and your referrals max out on one program for the month you can continue earning money by switching to another.
The MOST IMPORTANT STRATEGY for "Get paid to read Email" programs is to
sign up for all that seem worthwhile. This is because those that
are currently active are sending out relatively small quantities of Email.
To earn good money you may want to sign up for as many of these as you
can. If the volume picks up you can always quit one or more later.
Here are a few considerations that one might weigh before making any decisions regarding these programs. The focus here is on maximizing your potential earnings and on whether the potential earnings are worth the effort.
(1) JOIN MULTIPLE 'PAY TO SURF' PROGRAMS. Because most of the "Get Paid to Surf" programs have a limit on how many hours per month you and your referrals can get paid for, you should consider joining and referring more than one program. This gives you the option of switching from one program that you have maxed out to another for the remainder of the month. When promoting these programs to your friends, you may want to point this out since their earnings affect your earnings.
(2) FIRST REFERRAL PAY RATES ARE MOST IMPORTANT. In most of these programs, a vivid image is created of ever larger #'s of referrals at each succeeding level i.e. "So, you refer two people, & they each refer two people, & they each refer two people, etc. , etc. , etc. until you have a huge network of referrals going 8 levels deep!!". While it is true that over time, if these programs succeed, your referrals will refer others and your network will grow, the reality is that the energy & enthusiasm that you apply to building up your first layer of referrals probably will not be passed on to lower levels. Chances are good that your first layer of referrals will contain more people than any of the lower levels. Time will tell for sure if this assessment is correct, but if what we have seen up to now holds true then the most important level is level # 2 or your first level of referrals. Given this, the choice of a program should be heavily influenced by the rate offered for level # 2. No other level, not even level # 1 matters as much. This consideration favors AllAdvantage, ePIPO, AllCommunity, & GoToWorld (all with a level # 2 rate of .10).
(3) RUN TWO 'PAY TO SURF' PROGRAMS AT ONE TIME. Another possibility for enhancing earnings it to run two of these programs at the same time. Since most of these are not yet released, it is unknown if any technical obstacle exists that would prevent this. Some of the wording of All Advantage suggests that it will shut down if it detects another similar program running. Experimentation is needed to determine which programs are and are not compatible. This is difficult at present since so few programs are rolled out as yet. We will update this page with further details as we learn about them.
If not, then first impressions would suggest that ValuePay, which occupies a small rectangle in the upper right unused portion of the browser and one of the other programs, like DeskTopDollars which sports a banner at the bottom of the screen, would co-habitate nicely. DotAd, which only pops every 15 minutes, seems like it could pair up easily with another program as well. I have seen nothing in any of the information being provided at the information sites of these programs that indicate that this idea is either technically impossible, or against the rules.
(4) COMBINE 'PAY TO SURF' AND 'GET PAID TO READ EMAIL' PROGRAMS. The jury is still out on the earnings potential of the "Get Paid to Read Email" programs because the volume of Email one may expect is, as yet, unknown. Regardless of the volume, these programs seem like no brainers and could boost total earnings if combined with one or more "Get Paid to Surf" programs. Both Netscape Email & Microsoft Outlook have filtering that can be used to route this type of Email to a separate folder so that you can review it separately without getting it mixed in with your regular Email.
