The Horse Soldier Formula originated in Russia in 1865. The Diplomatice Corps was charged to develop a formula suitable for distribution to horse soldiers. The formula was used to treat soldiers and their horses for injuries recieved while training or on the battlefield.

This formula found it's way to the Americas from Central Europe and Russia in 1888 and was patented in Winona Minnesota on April 17th, 1888 .
