My Gahan Family

 

John GAHAN and Anstey McCARTHY were married 7 September 1846 at Saint Leonard's, Shoreditch, London, England. Anstey was born about 1825 in Yougal, Ireland, the daughter of Edward McCARTHY. They arrived in Australia, along with two children, around 1854. Anstey died at home in Yarra Street, Collingwood, on 11 August 1874. John was admitted to the Kew Asylum on 26 January 1876. He died there on 2 January 1888 of chronic brain disease. John and Anstey GAHAN are buried in Melbourne General Cemetery in a single unmarked plot along with their daughter, Annie BROWNING.
