Got a question about the album? You'll probably find the answer here.
If not, drop me an email at MSum865048@aol.com.

Q. What are the guidelines for photos posted in the album?
A. The only real requirement is that the photo contain a picture of a Cafe-r, meaning anyone on AOL who visits the Writers' Cafe. If the photo includes pictures of other people, that's fine, as long as you have their permission to post the pic online. If I receive such a photo, I'll assume permission has been obtained.
Q. How do I submit a photo?
A. Click the "Submit Your Photo" link on the first page of the album site, or email the photo to MSum865048.
Q. What file format should I submit photos in?
A. Please submit them in .gif, .jpg, .bmp, or TIF format only.
Q. How many photos can I post in the album?
A. Right now, a maximum of two. You can choose a "main" one to appear in the Gallery and Slideshow sections; the second will appear in the Index only.
Q. I'd like to post a pic, but I'm a little concerned about having a photo of me on the internet for anyone to see.
A. To protect the privacy of everyone who participates in the album, Cafe-rs' photos are identified by screen name only. If a photo includes people from outside the Cafe, they are identified only by relationship to Cafe-r, as in "StanMcCauley and Son." Also remember that while anyone can access the album if they have the URL, most of the people who see it will be other Cafe-rs and their family and friends.
Q. I'd like to post a pic, but I don't have a scanner. Any suggestions?
A. Take your photo to a retailer that provides scanning services. Walgreen's, Target, and Kinko's does this very inexpensively, and there are probably other stores in your area as well. Also, if you have an undeveloped roll of film, I recommend AOL's "You've Got Pictures" feature. When you drop the film off for developing, check the "You've Got Pictures" option. The pictures will be uploaded (within a day or two!) to a private site so you can view, save, share, and download them.
Q. When I access a certain page at the album site, I get an error message about plug-ins.
A. Different browsers handle plug-ins, sound files, Java Applets, graphics files, etc. differently. The site is designed to be compatible with most browsers, but it's virtually impossible to anticipate every browser version or computer system a user might have. Also, Mac platforms use different media players than PC platforms. Contact the vendor of your browser for a solution.
Q. Why did you crop my photo?
A. Because of the way the album is set up, each photo has to fit in a space that's 282 by 282 pixels in size. If the pic you sent is much longer than wide or much wider than long, it has to be cropped to fit the space. A combination of reduction, enlargement, and cropping is used to get the best possible result without sacrificing clarity.
Q. Sometimes the photos in the album appear rather blurred and blotchy. What's wrong?
A. This seems to happen with the AOL browser more than with Internet Explorer. Try deleting your internet cache files so that the server downloads a fresh page instead of loading a cached one. To do this in Windows, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options. Click the General tab. Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files... Click OK. The files are deleted. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.
Q. I know you have my picture; I sent it to you a year ago. Why isn't it in the album?
A. If you'd like to participate in the album, be sure to let me know. Not everyone wants his or her pic posted, and until you ask me to post yours, I won't, even if I happen to have it.
Q. Whose voice is that in the sound clip on the Index page?
A. The clip is from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," and the speaker is the principal's secretary (actress Edie McClurg), citing everyone who thinks Ferris is "a righteous dude."
Q. Can you post a picture of my husband without me? He's not a Cafe-r, but I am.
A. At this point, the album is limited to pictures of Cafe-rs. If server space permits, it may eventually include an area in which you may post other pictures as well.
Q. Well, can I post a picture of someone else's husband?
A. I don't see why not.
