---September 30, 2004 News Update---

On September 28. 2004 the ANA negotiation team met with the Hospital at the request of the federal mediator. After several hours, it became apparent that it would be impossible to reach a negotiated settlement. Therefore, the strike is still scheduled to begin on Monday, October 4, 2004 at 7 am.

The Negotiation Team meets tomorrow morning to finalize plans for the organization of the strike. We still need picket captains for the 3 days--they are simply the leaders of the picket line when officers are not on the scene. Please let your officers know if you can serve.

Picket signs will be available, but feel free to design your own picket signs with tailored messages regarding health insurance and pensions, especially. However, please check with the picket captains when you arrive so that we are careful with the media message we are sending out to the community.

On September 23, 2004 the ANA membership voted by 128 to 55 (70% to 30%) to reject ACMH's last offer for a new collective bargaining agreement. A strike notice was immediately turned in that evening. The strike is scheduled for 3 days, starting Monday, October 4, 2004 at 7 am and concluding on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at 6:59 am. The Hospital will apparently will shut down most operations for the duration.

The ANA has set up a phone Hotline at 800-222-7732 extension 2016 which will be activated on October 1, 2004 and updated 2 times a day to keep members current on the latest developments.

We will begin picketing on public property outside the Hospital entryway at 7 am on Monday, October 4, 2004 and picket each day of the strike until 11 pm. Members should follow the general rules that have been mailed. There will be T-shirts available, but dress appropriately for the weather each day. Unit Representatives are also securing picketing assignments for each day. Please make sure you sign up for picket duty.

Strike HQ will be at Room 28 of the Quality Inn Royle. A Press Conference will be held at 1 pm on the first day of the strike, October 4, 2004, at that location.
