Bookmarks On My Page

Seems that I have been biten by a troublesome Gremlin and I have forgotten how to get these bookmarks to work...So, for now you will just have to scroll down the page to the section you want to view. As for me, I will be going to the Anti-Spook Doctor and get my infected brain checked so I can fix this technical problem.

Sickly Recipes

Black Cat Krispie Balls

1/2 cup Sue Bee Honey
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine
1/2 tsp. salt
8 cups Cocoa Krispies
licorice, candy corn, M&M's for decorations

Microwave first four ingredients for three minutes on full power or until full boil. Stir in Krispies until well coated. Microwave two more minutes, stirring well after first minute. Let cool slightly until mixture begins to stick together. Butter hands well and press mixture into firm balls. Use licorice for cat whiskers, candy corn for ears and nose, and M&M's for eyes.

Lollipops

1/3 cup Sue Bee Honey
1/3 cup light corn syrup
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tsp flavoring (lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla, peppermint, or almond extract)
lollipop sticks or ice cream sticks

Stir first four ingredients in a saucepan until mixed. Bring to a boil over high heat. Continue cooking for 15 - 20 minutes or until 300 degrees or forms a brittle ball in cold water. Do not let scorch. Remove from heat and let cool slightly until mixture begins to thicken. On a waxed paper lined cookie sheet, quickly spoon about 2 Tbsp of mixture into lollipop shapes. Before shapes harden, press sticks into candy. Let cool at room temperature.

Makes about 64 lollipops.

Honey Caramels

2 cups Sue Bee Honey
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup Carnation evaporated milk
1/2 cup margarine or butterCook Sue Bee Honey, sugar and salt rapidly to hard-ball state (250º F). Stir occasionally. Add Carnation milk and margarine. Cook rapidly to hardball stage again, stirring constantly so mixture doesn't scorch. (This may take 10 to 15 minutes.) Pour into well buttered 9x13 inch pan and cool completely. Once cooled, loosen caramel in pan and place on cutting board. Cut into 1-inch or smaller strips with a very sharp butchers knife. Cut strips into 1-inch squares and place in foil candy cups or wrap in squares of waxed paper. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 100 pieces of caramel.

Colored Popcorn Balls
1/2 cup Sue Bee Honey
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine or butter
few drops of food coloring
8 cups popped popcornHeat all ingredients except popcorn to simmering in a large pan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Stir in popcorn. Cook, stirring constantly, until popcorn is well coated, about 3 minutes. Cool slightly and shape into balls with buttered hands.

Makes about 6 popcorn balls.

Haunting In Style

There are many key points to turning your home, school classroom etc. into a creepy spooky haunted house. I have tried to list some of the most important ones that we have in our home below. If you know of any other ideas please send us an email!

Grave Stones...

okay the cheapest and easiest way I know of to make these are to simply cut out the shapes out of corrigated cardboard and paint them grey. After the grey paint drys you can then use black paint on the edges of ONE side only ie. top middle down left side. This will give the appearance of 3d. Next, paint on your R.I.P. and/ or Epitaph. Use the same black paint as you did with the shadowing. I also use this black paint to makes chips and cracks on the headstone to give it an added aged appeal. You can make several of these and place them stratigically around your area.

Spider Webs

Now, every haunted house HAS to have spider webs and lots of them! We buy these at our local dollar store. I also add some cheap plastic spiders to them too. I favourite thing we do with our spider webs is to place them on and around the candy bowl, therefore the trick or treaters MUST put their hands through it to get their treats. We have found that it is one thing to see the webs it is a whole other thing to actually feel them!

Live Actors

Nothing is better than using "Live" actors to scare the pants off the young and old! We always have at least 3 people dress up as corpses, mummies etc. and pose.

The key to this is to look "fake", and once the potential scaring victim passes by you can "pounce". LOL

Now...by pounce, I don't mean that you literally jump on your trick or treaters!!! Just growl, gingerly follow, grab their arm or leg etc.

One word of caution...

Be VERY careful as to where you place these "live" actors...be sure they are not near or on stairs, ditches etc. The worse thing to happen is to have one of your victims injure themselves trying to get away!

Oh...don't foget your scary music!!!

Party Ideas

As well as using the haunting tips above i thought i would share some of the ideas we have used at our parties.

Activities

Special Effects

Creepy Foods

WE have had spagetti as our main meal...of course the menu says "Bowel Casserole"

As a dessert we have had pumpkin cupcakes, white cupcakes decorated with orange icing and black faces painted on them

Our drinks have been a non alcoholic punch - "Beetle Juice" - I painted by hand some beetles on the outside of a see through pitcher.

Some of the treats we give the children are pumpkin seeds, carmel apples and eyeballs (see above).

Safety First

The most important thing for us is that our kids have a safe halloween. This is why we felt it necessary to include some information and tips to others for ensuring they too can have a safe and spooky halloween.

For more info and tips see our Scary Resource Links.

SONG OF THE WITCHES

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and caldron bubble.

Fillet of a fenny snake, In the caldron boil and bake;

Eye of newt and toe of frog,

Wool of bat and tongue of dog,

Adder's fork and bling-worms sting, Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,

For a charm of powerful trouble,

Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and caldron bubble.

Cool it with a baboon's blood,

Then the charm is firm and good.

Macbeth: IV.i. 10-19; 35-38
