1975 ROCKLAND COUNTY KENNEL CLUB SHOW

Saturday, March 8, 1975, was a great day for Mastiffs at the Rockland County Kennel Club show in Suffern, New York. thanks largely to the efforts of Mrs. R. B. (Jackie) Guy, there was an entry of 39 Mastiffs.

We so rarely see adequate representation in the Mastiff ring, and so often it turns out to be two or three Mastiffs, making it uninteresting for judge, exhibitor and spectator. Not so the Rockland County show! Jackie had it well organized, and crowds flocked to the ring to watch. Each class was well represented, and the judge (Mrs. Alyce Seekins) had her work cut out for her. Rarely do we see such enthusiasm and interest our the Mastiff ring.

The trophy winners went as follows:

Puppy Dog - LE MAR'S SIRIUS OF COLOSSOS;
Novice Dog - RIPPER MASSALANE;
American Bred Dog - ROCO CHAKA;
OpenDog - SAMSON OF GULPH MILLS;
Puppy Bitch - GREENBRANCH MISTRESS MARY;
Novice Bitch - GRENDL OF NOVA SCOTIA;
American Bred Bitch - BODICEA OF RAVENWYD FARM;
Open Bitch - DEER RUN BEGUIN;
Best of Breed - WILLOWLEDGE AJAX;
Best of Winners - BOCICEA OF RAVENWYD FARM;
Best of Opposite Sex - BENGALI TIGRESS.

The day was not without it's laughs and traumas; my own young dog, out for the first time, CHANCELOT'S TRIPLE CROWN, stretched out on the floor of the ring with his legs in the air and dynamite couldn't get him up. He wanted no part of the whole thing, much to the dismay of his handler and owner!

After the show we all gathered at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Guy for what we all expected to be a small get-together . . . but found to be a Roman feast! The Guys had gone out of their way and set a table (or rather tables) of the most delectable delicacies you could imagine, including several six foot long Hero sandwiches.

Needless to say, with a good show, good company, good food and drink, the day shot by like a flash. A good show entry brings everyone out to compare dogs, talk dogs, pick studs, and just plain have a good time.

We all ought to do it more often, because after all, that's what it's all about!!
