To utilize this map, you have two choices. You can either use the cursor positions provided on your lower toolbar, or you will need to right click on the image and select, "save picture as" so that you can download the image. Then you will be given a pop-up screen which gives you the option of saving the image as a bmp file. Do this and describe it as "Acrius.bmp" just for continuity's sake.
Once you have done this, open "My Computer". Then choose "Accessories".
Then you will see a program named "Paintbrush". Open this. Then choose "Open File" from the menu provided in Paintbrush.
You will need to click on the pulldown menu for "View" on your upper toolbar. Choose the "Zoom" option found there, and select Custom. You will then be provided with checkboxes for percentages of size you wish to Zoom the picture too. Pick 800%.
Once you have done this, click on the pulldown menu for "View" on your upper toolbar again. Choose "Zoom" again, but this time slide down to and click on "Show Grid". Then you will have all of the points of reference you will need when I tell you where you are, or you ask me where something is. It is really simple once you have done this a few times so please feel free to practice a bit if this is your first time using this program.
Do not save changes on this map, unless need to or are told to. This will ensure the continued validity of the map you are using.
Each character is able to walk a number of squares on the grid equal to their present movement rate. For example, if your movement number is 12, you can move 12 squares. Bright red areas of the map are high, nearly completely impassable mountains. Only characters with Mountaineering Proficiencies can hope to cross at these treacherous peaks. Even then, only one square per day may be so traversed.
Brown areas are lower mountains, which, though traversable, reduce the amount of movement a character is able of achieving in one day through this terrain by 8 squares on the grid. If you could normally move 12, subtract 8, and you will move only 4 squares through the brown terrain.
Darker Grey Terrain is low mountains and hills. Movement through this terrain is reduced by 4 squares on the grid per day.
Green terrain is heavy woods or forest. Movement through this terrain is reduced by 4 squares per day.
Light grey terrain is plains or farmland. You move at no penalty in this terrain.
There are few roads, but if you are on one, your rate of movement is increased by 4 squares per day. Roads are not marked on the map, but most major cities are joined by large stone roadways, usually in the straightest line between points.
Blue areas of the map are water, either rivers, lakes, or ocean. Ships travel at varying rates. Galleons travel at 100 squares per day. Drakkar and longships travel at 140 and 160 squares per day respectively. River rafts travel at the speed of the river. Usually around 40 squares per day.
Olive green areas of the map are desert, and movement through this terrain is reduced by 4 squares per day.
