PARKS HISTORY & further info.

The Royal National Park, the first national park in Australia, was named “national park” in 1879. This was the first application of the word and was founded 4 years before America’s Yellowstone Park, in 1883, though it was established in 1872. The point is we got in there before the Yanks did. The Royal part came after when the Queen visited Australia in 1954. One of the rare trips she makes to a country that she is suppose to be head of. The park covers 16,000 hectares of vegetation and landscape typical of Sydney Basin sandstone. The first European settlement in this area was at Audley. In this area is a very old boatshed (Audley’s Historic Boatshed) that hires out rowing boats and canoes so you can go for a quiet tranquil float down the river.

Facilities and Services

If you respect nature and are considerate, which is what I think these rules are, then you shouldn’t have any problems. Remember though that the Parks Officers do patrol the park regularly and their presence is noticeable. The roads are great for a good hard drive but Police also patrol the parks’ roads. All this information can be gotten from any Kiosk. For the cost of 20cents you get the above information and also a big map of the parks’ hiking trails and roads. HAVING FUN with NATURE is SECOND NATURE !
