THE MOST FORGED SPORTS AUTOGRAPHS ON THE NET

These are in the best order possible considering you could easily flip-flop desired signatures. % is based on what I have seen over the past fifteen months on on-line auctions. I.E Ruth, I've seen 9.3 fakes out of every 10. FBI says "80-90%" of all signatures are fake (in 1992, it was estimated 70% were fake so the Internet's presence has done a great deal of damage). How cheap did you get that rare cut? Compare the retail prices. Ask yourself why a person would give away a rarity at that price.

1. BABE RUTH (balls $ 4,000-15,000, pictures $ 3,000, cuts $ 750) 93% It will be tougher to find unsigned items of the Babe then signed items soon. Horror stories that could go on for days about how much forged stuff is on eBay. Bats are all fake!

2. MARK McGWIRE (balls $ 600-800, pictures $ 150-200) 93% His prices mirrored that of a deceased Hall Of Famers who passed away in the fifties. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL! Tough signature to forge correctly. Changed his signature twice and one dealer had over 200 bad balls, which was represented by one scan. Recently two good balls sold fro $ 750 and $ 800.

3. MICHAEL JORDAN (balls $ 700, pictures $ 200-300) 93% Easy signature to forge. Doesn't sign at all, buy only "Upper Deck" products to guarantee authenticity.

4. TIGER WOODS (balls ~~doesn't sign~~, pictures $ 100-125) 90% HE DOES NOT SIGN GOLFBALLS! He likes to sign dirty hats, scorecards and programs. A lot of bad Woods signatures and everyone wants one!

5. LOU GEHRIG (balls $ 15,000, pictures $ 5,000, cuts $ 900) 90% Very bad Gehrig autographs out there.

6. ROGER MARIS (balls $ 1,000, pictures $ 250-300) 90% Why would he sign a 1978 ball? Almost all of them are fake. Avoid Maris on-line, especially tiny signatures on pictures and those horrid Mantle/Maris pictures.

7. TY COBB (balls $ 6,000, pictures $ 2,000, cuts $ 300-350) 89% AN EASY SIGNATURE TO FORGE. Anyone with a green pen can duplicate his signature. Look for checks and letters.

8. SAMMY SOSA (balls $ 190, pictures $ 75) 83% Take 20 cent card, run a sloppy signature and you just made $ 6. That's what I see. Avoid dual McGwire/Sosa items. Look at Total Sports Concepts for authentic signatures.

9. JOE JACKSON (virtually impossible inauthentic form) 99%  Stay away, buy only from top notch auction house. His wife signed all his signatures. Great way to make $ 1,000 though.

10. JOSH GIBSON (balls $ 4500, cuts $ 700) 97% I, my opinion is that there hasn't been an authentic Gibson autograph on eBay since the beginning.

11. JOE DIMAGGIO (bats $ 3,500 -'99% fake', balls $ 250, pictures 170) 82% Good forgeries out there. Buy from known companies and avoid Rawlings Blank Stick bats signed.

12. JACKIE ROBINSON (balls $ 3,500, picture $ 600, cuts $ 225) 80% Buy checks, easy signature to forge.

13. THURMAN MUNSON (balls $ 1,500, pictures $ 600) 99% Why would he sign a 1978 ball? Those are the only balls you ever see. Same as Maris, huge run of forged balls from the mid eighties. Munson didn't really like his fans so to think he would sit there and sign on the sweet spot of balls, I doubt it. EASY TO FORGE!!!

14. DEREK JETER (balls $ 100, pictures $ 60) 84% Buy Steiner. Difficult to forge correctly. Seen a lot of train wrecks out there.

15. KURT WARNER (balls $ 200, pictures $ 60) 91% Now this is funny. At shows, he charged $ 75. Nuff said.

16. MICKEY MANTLE (balls $ 225, pictures $ 150, bats $ 1,600-'90% fake-) 79% He signed a ton, signature easy to forge. Stay away from funny looking baseball and bats. He didn't like to sign bats. Watch for slow signatures.

17. CAP ANSON (balls $ 20,000, cuts $ 3,500) 99% VERY RARE! Seen nine on eBay in last six months. How many Cap Anson fans are there on eBay and why don't serious bidders bid these prizes? One ball sold for $ 3,000, perfect ball too! Lelands could have gotten this person $ 30,000!!

18. 500 HOME RUN SIGNATURES (11) (balls $ 700, bats $ 2,350) 85% for balls, 99% for bats. Blank Stick Rawlings are amusing! Mantle and Williams both charged unheard of amounts by the time 500 bats became popular. Forgers will always screw up the Schmidt and Killebrew signatures. All in the same sharpie means they were all at that persons house.

19.  YANKEE CHAMPIONSHIP ITEMS (balls $ 750-1,200) 90% outside Steiner, jerseys beware! Bad balls, bats and jerseys. Again, buy Steiner.

25.  MUHAMMAD ALI (gloves $ 200, pictures $ 125) 92% The king of easy and erratic forgeries. Buying on-line will guarantee a forgery because so many bad Ali items on eBay, why put a legitimate piece on there to compete.

35. DAN MARINO (balls $ 225, pictures $ 80) 82% A lot of bad signatures. Easy to forge. Forgers will put down the pen now that he's retired. Forgers don't like to forge those who aren't hot. That's why Neil Lomax signatures have disappeared. That's a joke.

36. 1939 HALL OF FAME INDUCTION BALLS SIGNED ( $ 35,000-50,000) 99% BEWARE! ALL ON-LINE ARE FAKE! These high priced items are given away for a reason and always brought to you by eBay banned forensics.

37. JOHN ELWAY (balls $ 225, pictures $ 80) 85% Forged pictures are everywhere! Now charges about a c-note at shows!

38. NELLIE FOX (balls $ 1,500, pictures $ 500, cuts $ 100) 85% No demand until Hall Of Fame induction. Then there was demand, but not that many available signatures, therefore they were produced and sold at a discount. Single signed bats are a joke.
