Shakespeare in Love heart-throb Joseph Fiennes is heading far from the realms of romantic comedy. Written and directed by Macedonian film-maker Milcho Manchevski (Before the Rain), Fiennes's next project Dust is described as 'a Balkan western'.

One strand of the movie, which tells interlinking tales set in three different locations and historical eras, will feature Fiennes as a cowboy who falls out with his brother when they both fall in love with the same woman.

Another storyline stars Adrian Lester (Love's Labour's Lost) as a thief who discovers a cache of Balkan gold in contemporary New York.

A word of warning for Fiennes or Lester fans trawling the Net for more information: Manchevski's ambitious drama shares a title, but little else, with a disaster movie being developed by Jan de Bont (Twister).
