Twyford M’s

Staines Melody

Amilas stud as a strong foundation of Twyford breeding and specifically the Twyford 'M' line Fronbach Cariad, dam of our stallion Norash Beauson, is a daughter of Supreme Champion Twyford Major and G.G. Grand daughter of Twyford Moonshine. Staines Melody is also a Twyford 'M' line pony being a grand-daughter of Twyford Mallard and carrying tail female line directly to Dinas Moonstone the foundation of the Twyford M line.

Dinas Moonstone

1945 (Coed Coch Glyndwr x Touchstone of Sansaw)

The foundation mare of the Twyford 'M' line and one of the foundation mares of the Twyford Stud. She was the Dam of Twyford Moonshine (by Coed Coch Glyndwr) who was main sire at Twyford for many years and who when mated to Cui Catkin produced Revel Coupon, dam of Revel Curly (by Twyford Guardsman), Pickles’ G.Grand Dam. D. Moonstone is also dam of Clan Music whos Daughter Twyford Mazurka is well represented at Amilas.

Twyford Mazurka

(Pendock Zenith x Clan Music)

Grand Daughter of Dinas Moonshine and a successful show mare. Dam of Twyford Magpie

Twyford Magpie

(Twyford Gurka x Twyford Mazurka)

T. Magpie won the Novice broodmare class at RWAS in 1977 and was a broodmare of note. Her daughters include the full sisters Twyford Mama and Twyford Mallard (Twyford Gamecock x Twyford Magpie). Both these mares were at Synod, T. Mama winning at Lampeter as a yearling in 1981 for them and standing Reserve Champion. She was then sold at the 1986 Fayre Oaks sale for 550gns to Gwyn Rhosyn Stud for whom she produced Gwyn Rhosyn Frenin, sire of the 2002 RWAS Champion. Mama eventually returned to Twyford Stud where died in 2002 but leaves a daughter at Twyford to continue the line. Twyford Mallard stayed at Synod and produced a whole host of successful ponies and is responsible for a number of Synod’s Fayre Oaks Sale toppers. One of Mallards Synod foals is Synod Maddie dam of our very own Staines Melody.

T. Magpie not only produced successful mares she also had some outstanding colts who have travelled far and wide influenceing the breed in many countries. Twyford Maple 1977 ( by Rhyd-Y-Felin Swgwr ) was exported to Austraila to stand at Lady Creswicks Nattai Stud along side Coed Coch Bari. Another of Magpies sons Twyford Musket 1982 (by Twyford Teme) was also exported to Australia to Mrs A Jacksons Reibycroft Stud. Of course the Magpie son of most importance to Amilas stud is Twyford Major Grand sire of Norash Beasuon.

Twyford Major

(Twyford Buckle x Twyford Magpie)

When owned by Fronbach stud he won many Championships and was third at the 1983 Royal Welsh Show. When crossed with Foundation mare at Fronbach, Cennen Cadi, the result was Fronbach Cariad dam of Norash Beauson and Lampeter winner Fronbach Cadi. T.Major then travelled to Denmark where he continued to produce Champions.

The twyford M line is well represented in many of the top studs throught the world in addition to Synod Stud, Fronbach Stud and Nattai Stud (Aus.) mentioned above Menai stud retains a twyford M line though Twyford Marchog (later exported to Australia) which has produced Fayre oaks sale toppers for them such as Menai Mountbatten was sold to the Rookery stud of Mrs Robina Mills for 3000gns. Through Menai Milkshake this line carried through to Penboeth Stud and through Penboeth Seren to Tallares stud.

At Trefaes the mare Trefaes Tail is by Twyford Mowgli. Trefaes Tail being the dam of Trefaes Taran a successful sire for the Ceulan Stud and now at Anderin Farm (U.S.A.)

Twyford Musette was a successful mare for the Gredington Stud and throgh her progeny at Gredington has influenced many studs including Lacy Stud through Gredington Jocylyn, and many others through Gredington Calon Lan I will finish this later as I’m all Twyford out!
