Fungi is a magazine in the tradition of the old (and sometimes not so old!) masters. The heart of our influences is of course, from the school of writers popularized in the legendary pulp magazine Weird Tales such as H.P.Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, August Derleth, Henry Kuttner, Henry S. Whitehead, E.Hoffman Price, Manly Wade Wellman, and Carl Jacobi to name a few. But there are plenty of others from before the pulp era (such as Algernon Blackwood, Ambrose Bierce, Arthur Machen, M.R.James and Robert W. Chambers) and after it (Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, Charles Beaumont, and Karl Edward Wagner) too. And for sheer, unadulterated fantasy, we like William Morris, J. R.R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, Lord Dunsany and Lin Carter.

Our standards are high and to keep them there, we insist that our tales meet the editorial standards of good taste a reader would expect to find in fiction published before the 1960s. What we do feature is color and thrills and the occasional frisson.

Each issue features our regular "spotlight" on a particular writer, a healthy mix of fiction, poetry and non-fiction, our film/video review section, interior art by the best artists around like Richard Corben and Christopher Porter and best of all, fully painted cover masterpieces by that emperor of mood and menace Gregorio Montejo!

So if you're already an afficionado of the weird or only a timid acolyte, Fungi is the magazine for you! Just use the handy links to visit our excerpts page for a literary sampling of the kind of stuff we're talking about and if you're convinced that Fungi is what you've been looking for all these years, then move on to our ordering information page to see what the latest issue is about and check out our back issues (if any are still available)!
