In Loving Memory of My Grandmother

Bettie Skinner Garrett

November 2, 1901 - March 10, 1987

The following is a collection of quotes my grandmother was writing in a spiral bound notebook in her later years. We believe that it was from different ministries that she experienced and took notes from. She was a woman who loved the Lord and wanted ALL to know Him. The Quote I remember her using the most, that she constantly reminded us was to "Live for Jesus!". No intention here is to leave credit off, from where credit is due. If there is credit due, please email me. As far as I know the credit goes to the Father above who inspired all these words and it is my intention to glorify Him here.

You're writing a gospel a chapter a day,
By deeds that you do and words that you say.

Men read what you write where the faithless are true,
Say, what is the gospel according to YOU?

Lord, where we are wrong, make us willing to change
Where we are right, make us easy to live with.

You don't have to be afraid of praising God too much. You can never think of Him more highly than you ought.

Money alone has never yet made anyone rich.

Many people use mighty thin thread while mending their way.

The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places.

An employer is someone looking for people between the ages of 25-30, with 40 years experience.

Marriage is the most expensive way of discovering your own faults.

Unless there is within you that which is above you, you will soon yield to that which is around you.

A day without prayer is a day without blessings. A life without prayer is a life without power.

The man who forgets the language of gratitude can never be on speaking terms with happiness.

Life can only be understood by looking backward; it must be lived by looking forward.

When you are dying of thirst, it is too late to dig a well.

People may forget how fast you did a job, but will always remember how well you did it.

We are shaped and fashioned by what we love most.

If something is better left unsaid, leave it there.

Use the past as a springboard for the future,
not as a sofa.

Aim to be a leader and you will be frustrated,
very few people wish to be led.
Aim to be a servant, and you will never be without a job.

One man with courage makes a majority.

If the shoe fits, you're not allowing for growth.

The price of authority, is responsibility.

Take from a man his wealth and you will hinder him.
Take from him his hope and you stop him.

It is difficult to have rosy thoughts about the future
when your mind is full of blues from the past.

Never leave a passage of God's word
until it has left a mark on you.

As long as you laugh at your troubles
you can be sure that you will never run out of something to laugh at.

Help is to give according to our income_
lest God make our income according to our gift.

The true test of a person's life can be measured by what he values the most.

To worship is to open your heart to the love of God.

Worship is to Christian living
as the main spring is to a watch.

Many people are willing to give God credit,
yet few are willing to give him cash.

True friendship is like sound health
the value is seldom known until it is lost.

The shepherd's heart yearns most for the sheep farthest away.

God can only answer when you come close enough to hear.

The strongest knees are those bent most often in prayer.

When push comes to shove, evil is no match for the absolute power of God.

No one ever lost his perspective by looking up.

Living by faith may mean walking in the dark, but never walking without God's light.

It matters not how often you kneel in prayer, unless inside, where no man sees, your soul is kneeling, too.

A broken home is the world's greatest wreck.

More people fail through lack of purpose than lack of talent.

Christ is not valued at all, unless he is valued above all.

A perfectionist is one who takes great pains, and gives them to someone else.

The one who walks with the Lord may be lonely on occasion, but never alone.

Learned people know what to do, brave people do it.

People who are afraid to put their foot down usualy have children who step on toes.

It is easy to give another a piece of your mind, but when you are through, you may have lost your peace of mind.

Troubles- like infants- grow larger through nursing.

Worry comes through human interference with the divine plan.

People who sing their own praises usually do so without accompaniment.

If God is kept outside, there is something wrong inside.
