This two-disc concert recording features Jimmy Page and his
newfound cohorts in the Black Crowes powering their way
through an assortment of Zep classics and blues standards
with infectious dynamism. With Chris Robinson clearly having
a gas filling in for Robert Plant at the mic and Page
sounding reinvigorated in the company of a cohesive,
motivated band, the 20-song set will delight fans of Zep and
the Crowes alike. Robust, guitar-laden treatments of "Lemon
Song," "Heartbreaker," "Whole Lotta Love," and "In My Time
of Dying" reinforce the impact of Page's '70s work. Makes
you want to dig out "Physical Graffiti" to compare licks.

Richard Ashcroft's departure from the Verve was a
bittersweet symphony indeed. But his solo debut sounds very
much like "Urban Hymns" part 2, which should satisfy all
those forsaken Verve devotees. After all, you can take the
lad out of the band, but at least in Ashcroft's case, that
doesn't take the beguiling melodies and distinctive voice
out of the lad.

Much treasured by group aficionados, "Sunflower" and "Surf's
Up" date back to a period when the group was losing some of
its commercial luster, yet remained creatively vital.
"Sunflower" appeared in the summer of 1970 and showed off
the skills of each member of the group, which had yet to
mutate into a nostalgia act. "Surf's Up" arrived one year
later. Like its predecessor, it was a commercial
disappointment, but a critical success, with Brian Wilson's
title track highlighting a strong set of originals.

The latest from stout road warriors Little Feat is a
confident, wide-ranging affair that proves, among other
things, that the Grateful Dead weren't the only band to
influence today's jam bands. Granted, the covers (including
the Band's "Rag Mama Rag" and Phish's "Sample in a Jar") are
more intoxicating than their originals, but the playing is
superb throughout.

The feel-good Southern pop-rock found on "Fortress" owes a
bit of a debt to old-school jam masters the Allman
Brothers, but fans of everything from Dave Matthews to the
Push Stars will be swayed by the band's balance of breezy

when the band's potent blend of psychedelic rock, folk,
blues, country, jazz, and funk was at its most percolating.
Volumes 7 through 12 of the lauded "Dick's Picks" series of

that decade, highlighted by the famous Harpur College show
from 1970 and a blistering 1977 date from San Francisco's
