BASS
PEDAL
|
|
Below are some of the features that make the Duallist the Ultimate bass drum pedal |
The Duallist is a unique and ingenious pedal designed to give you full control of all your drum kit all of the time.
Play double bass drum patterns and play controlled hi-hats at the same time. The Duallist gives double bass drum performance on one foot leaving your other foot free to play the hi-hat or other percussion instruments.
Can also be played STANDING UP - giving the percussionist the ability to explore new and exciting rhythms.
Patented SpeedswitchTM system which allows the drummer to switch between single and double mode in an instant without interruption.
The Duallist does not operate using an archaic heel cocking mechanism as some pedals were previously designed. The Duallist was designed and engineered from the ground up. Each beater operates totally independently and operates equally well in the heel up or heel down position so you don’t have to adapt a totally new technique. Rather, it takes you from the skill level where you are today and adds additional features and patterns to your repertoire.
Constructed from super tough Dupont Zytel ® engineering polymer which is widely used in heavy duty industrial and military applications.

The speedswitch levers are conveniently positioned left and right of the heel so it is not necessary to remove your foot from the pedal at any time.
The unique and patented Duallist drum pedal is the only bass drum pedal which allows you to play double bass drum patterns on one pedal with ease, with accuracy and without requiring use of any odd techniques. The Duallist gives double bass drum performance and allows simultaneous dynamic control of the hi hat pedal enabling hi-hat accents, splashes and effects to be played at the same time as double bass drum rhythms giving an explosive new edge to every drummer.

Four way beaters which have felt, wood and two differently shaped plastic playing surfaces, and allows infinite adjustment of beater angles, beater heights, strap lengths and spring tensions independently for both beaters.
A steel reinforced polyurethane coated hybrid, non slip, noiseless, drive belt which is extra heavy duty and capable of handling the heaviest performance.
The Duallist is fitted with self lubricating footplate hinge bearings manufactured from top grade friction resistant, corrosion free industrial nylon which ensures an exceptionally smooth and noiseless footplate action.
High resilience noiseless springs engineered from top quality piano grade wire give The Duallist unparalleled smoothness for exceptional feel and control.
Knurled tensioners allow maximum grip for accurate spring tension setting. Spring loaded anti slip carpet spikes with diamond knurled heads secure The Duallist firmly in position allowing a solid performance.
All the adjustment points are fitted with convenient hex key headed bolts allowing better leverage for ease of adjustment.
Unique easy access belt length adjusters for both drive belts as well as a unique variable belt feeder system which allows the drummer to fine tune his personal settings to perfection.
The
Duallist features a unique patented one piece sliding hoop clamp which
can adjust the distance between the pedal and the bass drum or percussion
item.
A
FEW CUSTOMER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY
KEVIN
MacKIE, Inventor of the Duallist and President of
The
MacRobert Corp.
QUESTION
**First,
how are the dynamics with the pedal? If I were to say, play <fff>,
<f>, or <ppp> with a steady momentum, would the pedal play
dynamically even and consistent?
ANSWER
----Yes
you can achieve this with The Duallist. in fact you can actually with a
bit of practice have the left beater (driven, by up movement of the foot)
playing louder than the right beater which is driven by the downward pressure
of the foot! This takes some believing but it is so. Alternatively if you
want louder beats from the right beater then just play a bit harder on
the down stoke. To achieve even and consistent beats just find the 'sweet
spot'on the footboard, this won't take long for you to discover in fact
most people are amazed at 'straight out of the box' they are playing stuff
they only previously dreamed of, with volume ranges from mezzo forte to
fortissimo easily achievable but this only from other people it is up to
you to explore. Indeed you can actually play lighter ( depending on your
style) and achieve what you at first may think will require a heavy foot
action to achieve. In terms of dynamics it is up to you to explore. 'Modern
Drummer' magazine, March 2001, Chap Ostrander said "The possibilities are
limited only by what you put into it. This is a serious new instrument
that can-and probably will-encourage drummers to reshape their thinking
about how they play"
QUESTION
**Also,
I'm wondering if tempo would be disrupted at faster speeds. How fast
can the pedal play before it loses consistency?
ANSWER
----It
all depends on the actual players style . The Duallist can achieve fantastic
speed ,even with relatively light foot movements , this is due to the momentum
that builds up when you play fast. It is almost like you just add in little
bits of energy to keep it going once you are up to speed.
However
to answer your point with a third party endorsement, Brad Schlueter reviewing
The Duallist in the July 2001 edition of 'Drum' magazine said " How
easy is it to play? Well, I was able to play sixteenth- note rolls and
a sixteenth-note shuffle pattern within a minute of attaching it
to my bass drum hoop. My maximum speed for these kind of patterns was sixteenth
notes at a little over 150bpm" "The momentum of the right beater controls
the left beater. So the faster the right beater played, the left followed
to suit up". This is Brad's own experience there are faster and slower
players than him.
Brad
finished his review by saying "Drummers interested in pushing the limits
of polyrhythmns and ostinatos may embrace The Duallist as an indispensable
tool in their arsenals.
In
this regard, The Duallist might be a little like throwing gasoline on their
creative fires. I shudder to think what brilliant insanity is possible
with this thing in the hands of someone like Terry Bozzio or Mike Mangini.
In the end the decision depends on how open your mind is. it's a lot of
fun. It may not be for the traditionalists, but those looking for
an edge over the competition, The Duallist might be just the thing"
