Alvaro Gömez

The King of Salsa

Alvaro E. Gömez has taught Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, and Cumbia for over 19 years. He has made television appearances in several cities such as Atlanta, GA., Dayton, OH., and Washington D.C. and has won multiple Salsa contests both in Colombia and in the United States.

He had the opportunity to be the first Latin American dancer to perform for a United States President and the Organization of American States. It was there that Mr. Gomez had the pleasure of performing for Jimmy Carter in June of 1980. More recently, in April of 1992, he was awarded the Austin Community Education "Outstanding Instructor of the Year" award. He is currently developing an instructional video.
