Probably the coolest of the cool sci-fi movie of the fifties. Some say it was the forerunner of Star Trek. It was certainly as good as some of the early Star Trek episodes. A neat flying saucer full of astronauts, led by Leslie Nielson (pre comedy era) lands on Altair 4 to find two survivors of a previous group of space explorers, Professor Morbius and his daughter, Altaira. Dr. Morbius with the help of Robby the Robot (his own creation) has created a neat home and doesn't relish the idea of being rescued. Of course there's a monster! This one scares you because you can't see it most of the time, and when you do, it's pretty wild. I'll not say more, just in case you've forgotten the movie and want to check it out. It's on video, which doesn't do much for the great Cinemascope photography, but this 1956 classic is still a lot of fun.
Leslie Nielsen ---- Comander Adams
Anne Francis ---- Altaira
Walter Pidgeon ---- Dr. Morbius
Jack Kelly --- Lt. Farman
Warren Stevens --- Lt. "Doc" Osbrow
Trivial Bit: The highest Star Trek ever ranked in prime time ratings was #52.
