Powerful Materia Combinations...

Why the Materia System Works Perfectly:

The most basic Materia combination is combining the Support Materia "All" with a spell. You must be careful when making these combinations, since some Materia would not work with All. For instance, Comet and All would have no effect because Comet already attacks a group of enemies.

Two other special Support Materias are Added Effect and Elemental. As soon as you obtain Elemental, you want to make sure that the AP level increases. Elemental Materia works in this fashion: Let's say the Elemental Materia that has zerp AP is linked to a Master Fire Materia in the armor slots on Cloud. What matters is the AP level of the Support Materia, not the Magic Materia. When Cloud is attacked with a fire-based attack, the total damage will be cut in half. Elemental Materia can provide protection against whatever element based Materia it is linked to. As the AP level increases of Elemental Materia, the damage to Cloud will than get less and less, untill Master level, where Cloud would absorb all Fire based attacks. This combination would be effective in a position where Cloud would constantly be attacked by a Fire creature, like a dragon.

Now, let's say that Tifa has a Master Elemental Materia linked to an Ice Materia that has zero AP in her weapon slots. Tifa will attack with her normal attack, and than add on the damage done if she had cast Ice3 on the enemy. This combination would be effective on any Fire-based enemy. Elemental also works combined with Summons. Elemental linked to Alexander in the weapon is very powerful against any dark enemy because it would give the weapon a Holy Elemental attack

Added Effect is the same as Elemental, but it protects or attacks with a status change, where Elemental protected or attacked with an Elemental base. When placed in the armor, it provides protection. When placed in the weapon, its effect is against an opponent. Here are some helpful Added Effect combinations:

Added Effect linked to Contain: Causes or blocks Confusion, Stop, and Petrify.

Added Effect linked to Poison: Causes or blocks Poison

Added Effect linked to Seal: Causes or blocks Sleepel and Silence

Added Effect linked to Mystify: Causes or blocks Confusion and Berserk

Added Effect linked to Time: Causes or blocks Slow and Stop

Added Effect linked to Destruct: Causes or blocks Death

Added Effect linked to Transform: Causes or blocks Frog and Small

Added Effect linked to Hades: Causes or blocks Sleepel, Poison, Confusion, Silence, Frog and Small

Added Effect linked to Choco/Mog: Causes or blocks Stop

Added Effect linked to Odin: Causes or blocks Death

HP Absorb and MP Absorb: These Materias absorb some of the HP points and MP points back after an attack lands sucessfully. Here are some basic MP/HP Absorb combinations:

HP/MP Absorb linked to Deathblow: Restores a greater amount back to the character when Deathblow is used.

HP/MP Absorb linked to Steal or Mug: Enables you to steal some HP or MP as well as an item

MP Absorb linked to most Spells: Reduces MP consumption by restoring a small portion of MP after the Spell hits successfully.

Final Attack is a valuable Materia - especially in the fight against the WEAPONS or Sephiroth himself. Link Final Attack to Revive or to Phoenix. This way, you will be revived and ready to fight once more.

Quadra Magic linked to most spells and summons will allow that character to cast that spell or summon four times in a row with the cost of only casting it once.

Powerful Complex Combinations:

Deathblow linked to HP/MP Absorb, and a Mega-All in a single slot: Restores a large amount of HP or MP while damaging all the enemies

Steal or Mug linked to HP/MP Absorb and a Mega-All in a single slot: Restores a substantial amount of HP/MP while damaging and stealing from all the characters

A Cover in a single slot, two Counter Attacks in single or linked slots, a Command Counter linked to Deathblow: Covers for other characters and immediately counters three times, finishing with a Deathblow

Knights of the Round linked to W-Summon, Quadra Magic linked to Bahamut-ZERO, and a Mime Materia in the rest of the characters: Can infinitely cast Knights of the Round and Bahamut-ZERO for only 500 MP. Everyone can repeat this series for an INCREDIBLE chain effect

Sneak Attack linked to Knights of the Round: Can begin battle with Knights of the Round

Sneak Attack linked to Deathblow, a Mega-All in a single slot: Can beging attacking all enemies with a Deathblow

Sneak Attack linked to Steal or Mug, a Mega-All in a single slot: Begins battle by stealing from all enemies.
