Its Final Fantasy 8....
The Characters.......
- Squall Leonhart: The main character of the game, Squall, uses a sword called the Gunblade. This rare weapon takes many years to master and is therefore rarely used. In the eyes of others, he is seen as a silent, cold person. It will take the love of one special girl to melt the ice in his heart. For now, having this cold image does not phase him. He enjoys solitude, and does not know how to return love.
- Rinoa Heartilly:As a member of the Timber resistance group, the Forest Owls, Rinoa fights against the Galbadia control of Timber. She is a high-sprited girl who takes Squall by the hand and leads him out of his shell. Rinoa uses the weapon called Pinwheel that is very similiar to Yuffie Kisaragi's weapon in FFVII.
- Quistis Trepe: The whip is Quistis' weapon of choice. But when her hit points become low, she relies more upon Blue Magic, her limit break. Quistis is much admired in Balamb Garden for her beauty. She became the youngest instructor at the Garden when she qualified for her license at the age of 17.
- Zell Dincht: Zell, a master of close-combat fighting skills, uses kicks and punches to defeat his enemies. His limit break, Duel, is one of the best breaks in the game. Zell's abundant energy, wild temper and reactionary style sometimes gets him into trouble. Squall doesn't trust him at first, but learns to accept Zell..
- Selphie Tilmitt: Selphie is a recent transfer student to Balamb Garden. She grew up in Trabia Garden, located deep in the mountains on the northern continent. She transferred to Balamb Garden because that is where the SeeD exam for all cadets takes place. Her outgoing personality and sincerity have earned her many friends at Balamb and Trabia Gardens. She is busy trying to organize the Garden Festival between training sessions. Always check her web page when you find a Timber Manic magazine.
- Irvine Kinneas: Irvine is an expert marksman who can use special ammo to attack enemies. He likes the company of women and has taken a fancy to Selphie. When placed in a tough situation, he quickly loses his composure and relies on others to get the job done.
- Laguna Loire: Laguna is an energetic man with a big heart. He's a bit of a klutz, but he's also a strong leader who inspires a great deal of loyalty and respect from those around him. He is the role model for Ellone. His weapon of choice is the machine gun, and he can fire multiple shots at enemies. He is currently serving in the Galbadian Army, 17 years ago (?!?!).
- Kiros Seagill: One of Kiro's most distinguishing features are his sharp blades, called Katal, that he wears on both of his arms. Little is known about Kiros, except that he fights alongside Laguna in the Galbadian Army. Kiros is a loyal friend.
- Ward Zabic: Ward is a big, powerful man. He carries with him an unusually heavy weapon, the Harpoon, which he throws at attacking enemies. His loyalty is unwavering to his friends. He also is assigned in the Galbadian Army and longs for the times of fighting with Laguna.
- Seifer Almasy: Seifer has gained a reputation in Balamb Garden as a show off and a snob. With Fujin and Raijin, he acts as the Garden's Disciplinary Commitee. Seifer is very needy and Ultimecia knows this. Seifer is the only other Gunblade user in the Garden besides Squall. The two have a heated rivalry. Seifer dreams of being the Sorceress' knight since he fails to make it as a SeeD.
- Edea: Very little is known about Edea, other than the fact that she has inherited the Sorceress Power at some point. She only recently appeared for the first time, and she seems to be working with Vinzer Deling. Her true intentions are unclear. She is controlled by Ultimecia, a powerful sorceress from the future..
Is this not the moment we all have been waiting for?? Can it possibly be Final Fantasy 8? The gods of Squaresoft gaming have heard our prayers, and actually released Final Fantasy 8 ON TIME (suprise) and it is wonderful. With detailed graphics and an awesome storyline, this game blows all others off the market.
A lot has changed since other Final Fantasy games. Magic Points are a thing of the past. No longer do we have to fight our hearts out to build up AP for Materia. Now we have the Draw System, which allows us to "draw" magic from enemies, have Draw Points, and refine magic from ordinary items.
The draw system is WONDERFUL. It takes a little while longer to build up magic, since finding enemies with forbidden magic is tough (draw from Tri-Face in Galbadia Garden during the second disc - it has the Pain and Flare spells which are a little difficult to obtain) and the number of magic you can have is finite (to 100). I personally suggest on stocking 100 (gasp - yes you heard me) of every spell. It junctions nicely when there is 100 of everything. This system sure beats fighting around Mideel for AP points.
The Card Games
Final Fantasy 8 has put in a side quest card game. By acquiring rare cards, you can actually upgrade your weapons and obtain extremly rare items that make ultimate weapons available. Playing cards is easy, as soon as you learn the rules. My advice on rule spreading: DO NOT SPREAD ANY RULES!!! When a potential card player askes you to play with one areas rules in addition to the rules where you are SAY NO. It may take a few tries to get them to play with just their rules but believe me, its worth waiting for. This will prevent any unwanted spreading of tough rules. And try to avoid playing where the rule is random - its a killer.
There are new status affects in FF8, such as Zombie, Defense Cut, and Curse. With Zombie, the player becomes undead, and cure spells and items harm those affected. Defense Cut knocks down your defense percentage, and Curse forbids you from doing limit breaks.
Acquiring Gil from fights is a thing of the past also. Squall is on a salary from the SeeD group in Balamb Garden. This is the only thing I dislike about FF8. Inital salary is dependant upon how well you have fought in the SeeD Field Exam. Also, written exams are taken to boost up your ranking, allowing you more Gil. I have the answers to all thirty exams on another page. You are judged initally on Conduct, Judgement, Attack, Spirit, and Attitude. Make wise decisions and hurry while you are being graded in the Field Exam.
I PROMISE THAT I WILL HAVE MORE ON FF8!!!!!!!!! I have to finish the game first also hehe....
