A Basic List of Characters and Links to the Other Parts of My Site...

Character List:

• Cloud Strife - The whole story line of Final Fantasy 7 revolves around this guy...As you can tell, he is the most important character. With his ummatched sword techniques, you want to keep Cloud as a front-line fighter. Don't overload him with Materia though, as his strength dimishes with every spell he has.
• Barret Wallace - Barret is the powerful leader of the rebel team AVALANCHE. Since he is mostly a long range character, you always want Barret in the back. This way, he can cause great amounts damage without taking that much himself. Avoid loading him up with Matera also, as this reduces his hit points. You may need Barret as a damage magnet later in the game.
• Tifa Lockheart - Tifa is one powerful babe. Her chain of limit breaks is the best thing she's got going for her. Tifa is a very versatile character - you can either load her up with Materia, and place her in the back, or she can be a front line fighter, and attack with Cloud. I personally load her up with Materia, as her attacks are generally weaker than Cloud and Barret.
• Aeris Gainsborough - Although Aeris is my favorite character, she is not physically powerful at all. Place her in the back and give her as much Materia as possible. She has an uncanny ability to use it, and the attacks are usually double in intensity.
• Red XIII - Wow, is Red good. He is a powerful fighter AND Materia user. You want to balance his materia with his strength and place him in the front. It's always best to take advantage of his powerful skills and his startling intellect.
• Cid Highwind - Cid is a top-notch pilot and fighter. With his lance in hand, he's ready for just about anything. Cid's statistics are pretty average all the way around, which can help or hinder the team, depending on how he is equipped. Place him in the front, and rely on his physical strength and limit breaks rather then his magic skills.
• Cait Sith - He is a powerful front line fighter with his secret strength hidden in his limit breaks. He betrays the group in the beginning, but then returns more powerful than ever before. Don't load him down with any Materia, as he kinda, well, sucks at it, in my experience. His big stuffed body can take quite a lot of damage though.
• Sephiroth - This guy is one tough cookie. He is the mako - induced brother of Cloud. His fighting ability is unmatched in any battle, and his magical skills are supreme. He is part of an experiment Hojo had administered to both Sephiroth and Cloud. Cloud was the failure, Sephiroth was the success. He believes himself to be an Ancient, but he is not....

• The Hidden Characters: Well, not really hidden

• Yuffie Kisaragi - Keep this thief in the back rank and load her up with Materia. Since she is a long range fighter, her position in the back should keep her alright. Don't trust this ninja with anything...

• Vincent Valentine - Vincent may look mean, but in reality he isn't. He is a powerful long range fighter, and makes good use of Materia from the back row...Beware of his limit breaks, as the elemental attacks he uses may help the enemy. Vincent will not join your party on his own, I'll let you know how to get him, just in case you live under a rock and don't know.

Hey this is where I tell you how to get Yuffie and Vincent to join your party.

Yuffie

On your way to Junon you should run across several small forests. While roaming around a forest, you should encounter a female ninja. In the beginning she is given the name "Mystery Ninja". Equip yourself so that you are well protected against fire. Eventually, she gives up and you are given choices about what to say to her. You can follow my guide, or suffer the consequences of not:

1st response: Not interested.

2nd response: .....petrified.

3rd response: Wait a second!

4th response: .....That's right.

5th response: .....Let's hurry.

From this point on, Yuffie will be at your command.

Vincent

I must admit, this guy is a little tough to find. Just read this throughly and you should have no problem. When the visit to Nibelheim in the first disc takes place, (after Cosmo Canyon) YOU MUST OPEN THE SAFE IN THE SHINRA MANSION. There is no other way you can obtain Vincent. I'll give you the combination to the safe, this way you don't have to go through the whole song and dance of finding the numbers. The combo is

LEFT 10

RIGHT 59

RIGHT 97

Its a little tricky to open, and you must hurry. When the safe opens, a boss fight occurs. Lost Number is a very tough boss at this point in the game. Make sure you have Aeris with you, and use her Seal Evil limit against him. When it is defeated, collect your items, (one of them should be the basement key) and continue across the mansion and down the stairs. Speak to Vincent before heading into the basement library, (the door at the top of the screen) and no matter what you say to him, he will join your party AFTER YOU SPEAK TO SEPHIROTH in the library. It's ok that he goes back into his coffin. When you leave the basement, he will follow...Trust me on this one.
