for the Midwestern USA
On New Year's Eve 1986, Andy Lakey had a near death
experience caused by a drug overdose from free-basing cocaine. As Lakey
lay on the floor of his shower, thinking he was about to die, he says he
experienced something out of this world." It was
almost imprinted in my mind, these seven angels twirling around my feet and
spinning toward my chest. And I prayed to God if he'd let me live that I would
never do drugs again and I would save the world," Lakey said on
ABCNEWS' Good Morning America. The experience changed his life forever and ultimately touched the lives of
countless others. After his recovery, Lakey sat for hours, sketching pictures of
the heavenly visitors who saved his life and gave him a second chance. He did
not fully understand what was driving him to constantly draw these images for
three years, until 1990 when he was revisited by three angels who appeared to
him in a beautiful ball of light.
When Lakey emerged from his vision, he had a clearly-defined mission from the
three angels: he was to create
2000 angel paintings by the year 2000. Lakey was a car salesman at the time, not
an artist. He had never picked up a paint brush. The angels told him that they would take care of everything and they
would also take care of him and guide him, his finances and not to worry, but to have faith in
them.
Today, Lakey is one of the world's foremost painters of
angels, and his works of art are collected by Art Galleries, Museums, the
Vatican, the White House and by art lovers around the globe. His unique art form
is meant to be touched as well as seen, it reflects his own personal encounter
the angelic powers that be.
The story of his life has been featured on numerous
television shows, national publications and television, including the Oprah
Winfrey Show and the prime-time documentary "Angels, the Mysterious
Messengers", Life Magazine, Washington Post, Larry King Weekend, CNN,
20/20, and People magazine (1996) featuring article: "Touched
by Angels", 20/20, and Good Morning
America. Lifestyles, with Shari Belafonte, CNN Nightly News, NBC
Hollywood Access and Manhattan Arts International.
