Statement of Faith and Belief
First Church of Christ
Wilkes-Barre, PA

1. We believe that there is but one God, Jehovah God, the God of Abraham and the God of Jacob and the God of Isaac.

2. We believe that Jesus is the uniquely Divine Son of God, born of a virgin (Mary), crucified for our sins, buried, and raised from the dead on the first day of the week.

3. We believe that Jesus is the head of His Church, the body of Christ, and that all authority for its life and teaching rests on Him (Mt. 28:18).

4. We have no book of discipline but the Bible, the Word of God. Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent. We believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God and the only rule of faith and practice for the New Testament Church and in the inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible.

5. We observe the two New Testament ordinances - baptism (by immersion) for the forgiveness of sins and the reception of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38); and the Lord's Supper (every Lord's Day) (Acts 20:7).

6. We believe that in matters of faith, the Scriptures; in matters of opinion, liberty; and in ALL things, love (Alexander Campbell).

7. Among our objectives are the leading of men and women to Jesus Christ through His Word; the unity of all Christians on the basis of the New Testament pattern for the church; and to aid in restoring the church to the New Testament precedent and principles.
