1...MUMIA EMERGENCY!
Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 16:06:07
From: "benjamin ramos" uriyoan@hotmail.com
Subject: MUMIA EMERGENCY!!
* PLEASE FORWARD AND DISTRIBUTE WIDELY (ON AND OFF-LINE!) **
INTERNATIONAL CONCERNED FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF MUMIA ABU-JAMAL URGENT APPEAL
LATEST UPDATED INFORMATION - PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY:
1. THE MOST URGENT ISSUE RIGHT NOW IS THE NEED FOR MONEY FOR BAIL. THE BONDS SET RANGE FROM BETWEEN $8,000 AND $100,000. THE TOTAL ESTIMATED AMOUNT IS APPROXIMATELY $320,000 FOR ALL THOSE WITH BAIL SET. WE HAVE TO RAISE APPROXIMATELY $15,000 MINIMUM TO BAIL THE REMAINING PEOPLE OUT. 8 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED, 2 WERE RELEASED WITHOUT CHARGES OR BAIL, AND SOME PEOPLE ARE BEING BAILED OUT, BUT WE MUST URGENTLY RAISE MONEY TO PAY BACK LOANS MADE FOR BAIL.
2. 5 OF THE 6 WHO WERE CHARGED HAVE BEEN ARRAIGNED AND HAVE BAILS AND CHARGES SET. EACH OF THESE 6 MUMIA SUPPORTERS WERE GIVEN FELONY CHARGES, INCLUDING FELONY ASSAULT AND FELONY RIOT, AS WELL AS CONSPIRACY, ASSAULT, AND CONSPIRACY TO RIOT.
3. THIS WAS A **LEGALLY PERMITTED DEMONSTRATION AND MARCH** AND THE KIND OF VIOLENCE POLICE EXHIBITED YESTERDAY WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR MUMIA MARCHES IN PHILADELPHIA.
4. THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO ARE PREPARED TO MAKE STATEMENTS TO THE MEDIA
MEDIA PERSONS SHOULD CONTACT JODI DODD AT 215-563-7110.
5. 4 PEOPLE WERE HOSPITALIZED WITH INJURIES INCLUDING: PROLONGED STATES OF UNCONSCIOUSNESS, AT LEAST ONE CONCUSSION, FRACTURED TAILBONE, INTERNAL BLEEDING, SEVERE ABRASIONS -- THE WORST INJURED PERSON WAS FINALLY RELEASED.
NO ONE IS CURRENTLY IN THE HOSPITAL, ALL ARE IN CUSTODY OR IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RELEASED.
6. EVEN THOUGH THE MOST INJURED PERSON HAS ALREADY BEEN RELEASED, WE STILL HAVE PEOPLE IN JAIL WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS WHO ARE IN NEED OF MEDICATION AND TREATMENT. THERE ARE 2 PEOPLE WHO ARE IN JAIL WITHOUT FAMILY NEARBY AND UNTIL WE MAKE CONTACT WITH PEOPLE WHO CAN PROVIDE MONEY FOR THEM, THE ONLY WAY THAT WE CAN GET THEM OUT ON BAIL IS THROUGH DONATIONS FROM ACTIVISTS AROUND THE COUNTRY.
7. WITNESSES AND DEFENDANTS NEED TO CALL US AT 215-476-5416 IMMEDIATELY. ANYBODY WHO HAS ANY VIDEO OR PHOTO FOOTAGE OR KNOWS ANYONE WHO DOES NEEDS TO CALL IMMEDIATELY AND GIVE THEIR NAME, PHONE NUMBER, AND E-MAIL ADDRESS. PHONE MESSAGES WILL BE CHECKED REGULARLY.
IT IS URGENT THAT WE GET ALL OF THIS INFORMATION TO LAWYERS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. EVERY WITNESS THAT HAS CALLED IN THUS FAR TELLS A SIMILAR STORY AFTER HAVING SEEN THE WHOLE THING HAPPEN AND ALL REPORT WITNESSING THE POLICE POUNCE ON PROTESTORS WITHOUT ANY PROVOCATION OR CONFRONTATION.
8. WE NEED PEOPLE TO CALL D.A. LYNN ABRAHAM TO DEMAND THAT ALL CHARGES BE DROPPED AT 215-686-9604, OR FAX 215-686-8049.
9. PLEASE WRITE AND E-MAIL LOCAL AND NATIONAL PRESS (SOME PHILLY PRESS ADDRESSES ARE AVAILABLE AT PHILLYNEWS.COM). DO NOT GIVE NAMES OR DESCRIPTIONS OF SUPPORTERS OVER THE TELEPHONE, IN E-MAILS OR IN LETTERS BECAUSE THAT INFORMATION IS NEEDED FOR INTERVIEWS WITH LAWYERS. IN PHONE DISCUSSIONS AND LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, PLEASE GIVE GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS OF THE ATMOSPHERE OF HOW POLICE CAME DOWN SO HARD ON PROTESTORS, BECAUSE THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF MISINFORMATION IN THE MEDIA SAYING THAT PROTESTORS PROVOKED IT IN AN ATTEMPT TO COVER UP THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A POLICE RIOT.
10. PLEASE CALL PHILADELPHIA MAYOR JOHN STREET AT 215-686-2181 OR FAX 215-686-3162, AS WELL AS ACTING POLICE COMMISSIONER JOHNSON AT 215-686-3280, AND MAKE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WAY PEOPLE WERE TREATED ON THE STREETS AND IN CUSTODY.
** ICFFMAJ IS URGING PEOPLE AROUND THE COUNTRY AND WORLD TO MAKE DONATIONS IF YOU CAN, AND LOANS IF YOU CAN'T MAKE ACTUAL DONATIONS. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO GET THESE PEOPLE RELEASED FROM JAIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WE NEED PEOPLE TO FUNDRAISE ASAP. **
THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO MAKE DONATIONS:
A. THE IDEAL THING IS TO WIRE MONEY SO THAT IT CAN BE PICKED UP AS CASH, BECAUSE ONLY CASH CAN BE USED TO BAIL PEOPLE OUT. PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE AT 215-476-5416 SO THAT WE WILL KNOW TO PICK IT UP OR IT WILL JUST SIT THERE.
PLEASE WIRE MONEY TO:
ANTHONY ALLEN
3960 DENNISON AVE., APT. D-3
DREXEL HILL, PA 19026
YOU WILL NEED HIS PHONE NUMBER (610) 394-0306
B. PLEASE SEND CHECKS IF YOU CANNOT WIRE MONEY. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO PDAG (PHILADELPHIA DIRECT ACTION GROUP), P.O. BOX 40683, PHLA., PA 19107 - SPECIFY IN THE MEMO LINE "DECEMBER 8TH LEGAL FUND".
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DONATION PROCESS OR IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION, CALL DANIELLE AT 215-680-1174 (MESSAGES WILL BE FREQUENTLY CHECKED).
STAY STRONG, STAY COMMITTED!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR WHATEVER YOU CAN DO!!
CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP, UNTIL MUMIA IS FREE!!

2...THIS WAR HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR YEARS
From: Joan Norman defender5@mindspring.com
Subject: THIS WAR HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR YEARS
Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 01:58:19 -0800
Hi,
I got this email a few weeks ago and have been checking it out. It's all true! We've had a strange feeling about so many coincidences, but couldn't prove anything till now.
Peace,
Joan Norman
THIS "PIPELINE" WAR HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR THREE YEARS
It's been three years since Congress discussed removing the government of Afghanistan to make way for an oil pipeline: (See the Hearing before the Sub-Commitee on Asia and the Pacific of the Commitee on International Relations of the House of Representatives, February 12, 1998.)
It's been six months since the US Government told India there would be an invasion of Afghanistan in October: (See the Special Report in the Public Affairs Magazine: called "India in anti-Taliban military plan" , June 26, 2001)
It's been five months since BBC heard about the planned invasion of Afghanistan: (See the BBC News' article by George Arney quoting Niaz Naik, former Pakistani Foreign Secretary, who was told by senior American officials in mid-July that military action would go ahead by the middle October, September 18, 2001.)
It's been nine months since Jane's Defense News got word of the planned invasion of Afghanistan: (See artcle by Rahul Bedi called "India joins anti-Taliban coalition" March 15, 2001.)
and of course, only three months since the attacks on the World Trade Towers that got the American people angered into support of the war that everybody on the planet BUT Americans had been told was on the way before September 11.
During these last three months, the same American media that waved non-stop Gary Condit in front of our faces to keep us from finding out that plans for a war were being announced to other governments, is now trying to keep the level of fear in the American public so high that they cannot think.
The media has been pounding us all non-stop with Osama (you know, the CIA's main asset in Afghanistan) in a fashion eerily similar to the mythical dictatorship's use of Emmanual Goldstein and the "Two Minute Hate" in George Orwell's "1984". The media's
"scare-orrism" has continued with the endless dire warnings regarding the Anthrax being
sent in letters, which in retrospect has to be the weakest form of Anthrax, having killed far fewer people in the entire nation in the last three months than are gunned down in Washington DC in any given week. But the problem with using fear to keep people from thinking is that sooner or later fear tires itself out. People habituate to it. They get used to it. And they start thinking again. And, as people stop fearing and start to think, they start to notice those things which the government would prefer they don't. Things like the convenient timing of the attacks on the World Trade Towers and the perfect fit into the timetable of the war announced to other nations earlier in the year.
People are remembering that Osama bin Laden is a creation of the CIA, the same CIA once headed by the President's father (who also got us into a pointless war in the oil-rich regions of the middle east), the same CIA that imports drugs and sells them to our children, the same CIA now advocating the use of torture.
People are remembering that the initial Anthrax "attack" on the US Congress occurred just as the draconian USA PATRIOT bill was about to be voted on. People have noticed that the US Congress, out of their own fear, voted to pass that bill without reading it at all!
(The second congressional Anthrax attack was sent to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) "coincidentally" right after he announced hearings on the military tribunals directive.)
People are remembering that the first suspects to be arrested after the WTC attacks were not Arabs, but Israelis, and that Israelis (in one case a known Mossad agent) were also arrested inside the Mexican Congress carrying guns. Yet more suspected Mossad agents were arrested with plans for US Nuclear power plants inside the US, but were strangely let go!
People are remembering that the Mossad has a past history of staging fake terror attacks to blame on a third party, such as the successful planting of fake radio traffic which tricked the US into bombing Libya, and a failed attempt to blow up a US facility and blame it on Arabs in 1956.

(A)Wake for Democracy
Wed Dec. 12, 5 pm
Oakland Federal Building
1301 Clay (between 13th and 14th Streets)
Oakland
On December 12, 2000, five U.S. Supreme Court Justices betrayed and abrogated the Constitution by appointing a president of the United States.
(A)Wake for Democracy is a vigil to remind the felonious five that there is still opposition to their illegal action . . . and to any infringement of the Bill of Rights. Come to light a candle with others on December 12th, to shed light on the fact that the Supreme Court denied citizes the right to vote. Light the way to true voting reform; illuminate justice for American voters.
This vigil is sponsored not by any organization, but by people, many of whom ever
"rabble-roused" before. We believe that a formal observation should mark this anniversary, and commemorate loss of a basic democratic right.

Linda Wolf & Neva Wilson: Global Uprising
Wed Dec. 12, 7 pm
Modern Times Bookstore
888 Valencia Street (at 20th Street)
San Francisco
There's a growing new global movement for justice today, and it's largely driven by a new generation of activists. Global Uprising documents this new youth movement through compelling first person narratives, interviews with both new and seasoned activists, poster art, poetry, and striking black and white photographs. Issues addressed include globalization and economic inequity, racism and women's rights, police brutality, media control, sweatshop labor and fair trade, the prison industrial complex and the criminalization of youth, old-growth forest destruction, and biotechnology.
Older activists and world leaders tell their own stories, offering historical perspective and context. Tonight's speakers represent a wide range of Bay Area activist networks and organizations. Joining us tonight are contributers Jia Ching Chen of Just Act, Kevin Danaher of Global Exchange, Drew Dellinger of Soul Force, Malachi Larrabee-Garza, Pecolia Manigo, John Sellers of the Ruckus Society, and Alli Starr of Cultural Links.

Bodywork Fundraiser for the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan(RAWA)
Sat Dec. 15, 3:30-7:30 pm
Sacred Space Healing Center
776 Haight Street (at Pierce)
San Francisco
Give or receive a massage for a cause! ASAP (Acting in Solidarity with Afghan People) and sundry concerned bodyworkers are again hosting an afternoon of massage appointments to benefit RAWA (the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan.) RAWA is a women's humanitarian and political group, formed in 1977, working to build democracy, women's rights and peace in Afghanistan, and to foster hope for a people suffering from 20 years of ongoing war and repression, with a comittment to nonviolence.
Currently, issues are further complicated and intensified by the US-led military strikes in their country. The political landscape is changing rapidly at this time. To what end is still unknown. What certainly hasn't changed is the immense need for humanitarian aid to get to the displaced and starving civilian population, including thousands of new refugees that have joined those already in in the camps. Winter is here and those refugees won't be able to return home soon. RAWA operates both inside Afghanistan, running girl's & boy's schools, women's clinics and income generating projects, and in neighboring Pakistan distributing food & medicine to women, men and children in refugee camps. These camps have swelled in population since the airstrikes began October 7.
