The library is offering the following free classes about the internet.

Internet Searching
Overview of the Web as an information resource, comparing search engines, and how to
evaluate what you find on the web. The workshop can be customized for individual
departments or classes upon request.
Introduction to the WWW
Participants will learn the skills needed to begin using the WWW. It is intended for
those who have little or no experience with the Web. Topics covered include:
What is the Internet?
How does it work?
What types of information can you find on the WWW?
What is a URL and why do I need to know about it?
Introduction to HTML
Participants learn the structure if HTML documents and basic HTML tags.
Some of the effects of HTML on search engine results will also be covered.
Participants should be familiar with the worldwide web and with basic word
processing.
Advanced HTML
Participants will be introduced to advanced html tags; tables, frames and other advanced HTML
techniques. Participants should be familiar with basic HTML tags and the use of
text editors for creating web pages.
Electronic Library Research
This workshop will teach the skills needed to sucessfully search the many databases available
through the library including Britannica and the computer catalog. It will also
cover the more important indexes available through the libraries web site.
First Search
A basic introduction to a group of over 60 indexes, arranged by subject,
that all use the same search engine.
Job Hunting on the Web
More and more job announcements are showing up on the WWW. This class will help students
locate and use career and employment information resources on the WWW.
