On-Campus Windows 95/98 Dial-up TCP/IP SetupInternet Dial-Up from a Modem(using ppp)

Instructions:
Begin by checking to see if you have the Dial-Up Networking Folder located under the "My Computer" icon. If you DO NOT have the Dial-Up Networking Folder follow the directions beginning with the section labeled "Installing Dial-Up Networking." If you DO have the Dial-Up Networking Folder, double-click the folder to see if a "Make a New Connection" icon and a "My Connection" icon is present. If the "My Connection" icon is NOT present, follow the directions beginning with the section labeled "Installing Dial-Up Networking." If the "My Connection" icon IS present, follow the directions beginning with the section labeled "Adding Dial-Up Connection." Check this section for mistakes in the initial configuration.
Installing Dial-Up Networking
- From the Start menu, choose Settings - Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove programs icon
- When in the Add/Remove Programs Properties Window, click on the Windows Setup Tab.
- Double-click the Component labeled "Communications"
- Check the Component labeled "Dial-Up Networking"
- Insert appropriate media in disk drive (disk/CD)
- Choose OK (Here the system will prompt you for your Win95 floppies/CD-Rom) This setup will install needed files. Rebooting will be necessary.
Adding Dial-Up Connection
- From the Desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
- Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
- You will be prompted for information with a series of windows.
"Welcome to Dial-Up Networking" Window choose Next
"Install New Modem" Window check don't detect option
- Choose Next
"Make New Connection" Window

- Choose Next
- After the setup has created your connection icon, click on the "My Connection" icon with your RIGHT mouse button and choose Properties in the scroll-down menu.
"My Connection" Window should have the following information:
Area Code: 409
Telephone Number: 468-7100
Country Code: United States of America
- Check the Use country code and area code option.
- Click "OK".
At this point your connection configuration is complete.
Logging In
- Double-click the My connection icon.
- Press Connect to begin dialing. The modem should begin dialing. After a few seconds, a connect icon will appear on your task bar will appear and the timer will begin counting off your time on-line. This indicates that you have successfully connected. You may now minimize the window and run other applications such as Netscape or Internet Explorer, Eudora, Outlook Express, etc. You must have these on your computer, or you can download them free at The Scoop (http://listen.to/sfa) under The Low Down Dirty Section.
