The first of its kind in San Diego County, Project Navy/Marines is a group of East County business leaders, politicians, educators and residents who have come together to promote the benefits of living and working in San Diego's East County.
Initially launched in 1996 by Congressman Duncan Hunter and East County Chambers of Commerce in response to the SPAWAR relocation from Washington D.C. to San Diego, Project Navy/Marines targets military and civil service personnel relocating to San Diego; offering information and assistance to those considering East County as their new home.
Specific projects include: SPAWAR (Washington DC.); Military SeaLift Command (Oakland); Marine Corps Air Base (El Toro); USS John Stennis (Virginia); and incoming Border Patrol personnel. Members of Project Navy/Marines organized and/or attended relocation fairs in each of these areas.
Originally funded through donations from East County businesses, Project Navy/Marines has produced exceptional brochures on the quality of life and Education available in East County.
The ultimate goal of Project Navy/Marines is to improve the reputation and quality of life in East County by attracting responsible and community minded people to live and work here… people who will patronize East County businesses, be involved in their children's education, and contribute to the well-being of the community.
Relocating families are made aware of the benefits of living in East County: more value for their real estate dollar, less traffic congestion on area freeways and shorter commute times, and excellent schools and community facilities..
