WESTERNS & SERIALS

is a club and magazine for fans of serial chapter plays and western movies of the silver screen. I started "Westerns & Serials Fan Club" when I published the first issue of Serial World back in 1974. I published the first issue of Favorite Westerns in 1981. I merged the two into one publication and one fan club - Westerns & Serials - in 1983. At the present time the primary purpose of this fan club is to locate books, audio recordings, and videos for members and others who wish to use our search services.

In 2006 we are moving our catlog magazine to the internet. This will allow us to instantly update information such as new items, price changes, and listings of items no longer available at the same time save on postage and printing costs. Those members who do not have access to the internet and want to receive printouts of our updates must notify us and we will send them to you at least once a year. We plan, over time, to put our complete listings of items available through our fan club on our webpage.

I have found that the best way to tell someone about our fan clubs is to send them a copies of our most recent club magazine because they tells in detail what the club does and the club rules for using the services offered. If you decide to join our fan club the sample issues we send will count as the first year of your membership. Members receive cheaper order charges and in some cases cheaper member prices on certain items as indicated in our catalog listings

If you decide not to join the sample issues become the one free sample you will ever receive from our fan club. You may still order items through our fan club by agreeing to our club rules and paying the higher non-member shipping & packaging rates, the higher non-member rental rates, and in some cases higher non-member prices, all of which are clearly explained in our club publications. The services offered by our fan club are available to all who wish to use them under the club rules which are fully explained in the club catalog magazines. Order only if you fully agree with the rules and terms offered. They are set up so that everyone pays what we have determined is their fair share of the costs of the services they use and of the club itself. Note that all items offered through our fan club are on either a non-returnable or a rental basis and that guarantees are limited to the replacement of defective items with another copy of the same title. Before you return an item you must request a return authorization in writing. Order only if you fully agree with the club rules and terms. Most items listed in our back issues are still available. In cases of changes in terms or prices, the most recent published prices and terms of course apply.

In my issues and letters I try to spell out completely what WESTERNS & SERIALS FAN CLUB is and what it offers. The primary purpose of the fan club is to obtain DVDs, vhs video tapes (United States format only) and books related to westerns and/or serials. We operate a mail order only store for that purpose. As far as videos are concerned – it is the goal of our fan club to locate and be a source for members of the best and most complete copy of each title – but I always stress in my letters and issues the fact that all these video tapes are not perfect – they are the best and most complete copies of each particular title that we have thus far been able to locate but in some cases the best is far from perfect. I find them all watchable but quality and completeness does vary. In some cases only spliced and/or well used and/or faded copies are all that exist of a movie. If a title is available from more than one source for the same price and with the same quality - I choose the one with what I think is the more attractive packaging - but be aware that we do not guarantee any specific type of packaging because companies often change the type of packaging they use on a tape so when we get in new stock of a title it may well be in a different type of package than it was before. If you have us obtain any video tapes for you be aware that there is always a charge. You can either purchase them outright on a non-returnable basis and take our opinion of the quality – or you can judge for yourself and purchase (up to three tapes at one time) on our conditional sale (rental) option. Only certain tapes are available with the rental option - mainly westerns and serials. There are many, many other video tapes that we can obtain on a non-returnable special order basis only. You must always request the rental option in advance with your order. If you choose this option, you can have us obtain a tape for you and send it to you and then if for any reason it is not exactly what you want you can return it to us for full credit less rent. Rent starts the day after we send the tape out to you and ends the day before we get it back from you. This is all fully explained in detail in the club catalog magazines, but I stress it again here in my letter to you to avoid any possible misunderstanding. Shipping & Packaging Charges, Return Shipping Charges, and Foreign Charges which apply to all foreign orders are paid by you and are never refunded or credited to you. Shipping and packaging is additional on all non-member orders and on member orders for less than $100 and is not refunded.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP COSTS

$12.00 FOR ONE YEAR (FOREIGN $16.00)

$22.00 FOR TWO YEAR (FOREIGN $30.00)

$32.00 FOR THREE YEARS (FOREIGN $44.00)

What follows is Club Magazine #47. If your membership runs through issue #47 it expires at the end of the year 2007. If it runs through 48 it expires at the end of the year 2008. and so on. Remember that we will not be sending you the annual printed copy of the updates unless you request us to do so. Otherwise we will assume that you receive issues and updates be regularly checking our webpage on the internet. We accept VISA, American Express, MasterCard, and Discover Card credit cards, checks, and money orders for memberships and aa other orders.

ORDER CHARGE CHART

The minimum order charge for shipping and packaging is $5.00.

Also - all back issues of our fan club's magazines are $5.00 each

ORDER CHARGE CHART FOR FAN CLUB MEMBER ORDERS:

$5.00 CHARGE ON ALL ORDERS UNDER $100.00
FREE SHIPPING FOR ALL ORDERS $100.00 OR MORE

ON FOREIGN ORDERS WE NOW CHARGE ACTUAL POSTALC CHARGES THAT WE PAY TO SHIP THE ORDER TO YOU
.

ORDER CHARGE CHART FOR NON-MEMBER ORDERS:

$5.00 CHARGE ON ALL ORDERS UP TO $29.99
$6.50 CHARGE ON ALL ORDERS $30.00 TO $49.99
$8.50 CHARGE ON ALL ORDERS $50.00 TO $74.99
$10.50 CHARGE ON ALL ORDERS $75.00 TO $100.00
$12.00 CHARGE ON ALL ORDERS OVER $100.00

ON FOREIGN ORDERS WE NOW CHARGE ACTUAL POSTALC CHARGES THAT WE PAY TO SHIP THE ORDER TO YOU

The above chart is different from the chart that appears in some of our older catalog magazines and is subject to charge. The most recent terms and prices apply to all orders.

We do NOT have unlimited stock of the tapes, books, and other items offered through the fan club. In many cases we obtain the items after we receive an order. That is why we ask that you allow us 30 days from the time we receive an order until we send it out as it often takes us several weeks to obtain items for your order – and we often have the publishers and manufacturers send items directly to you themselves. Therefore, orders may often come out in several shipments rather than always all at once. The DVDs and tapes we obtain for you are guaranteed against recording defect only - not as far as quality is concerned - and defective tapes are replaced with another copy of the same title only.

All shipments are insured against damage by either the U.S. Postal Service. NEVER RETURN ANYTHING TO US (except rental items of course) WITHOUT A RETURN AUTHORIZATION WHICH YOU MUST REQUEST FROM US IN WRITING EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM.

Our fan club does NOT operate a store open to the public. Nor do we have a club telephone number. I run the fan club out of my home. I don't mind if someone telephones me at home, but be aware that I am not always home and you may well reach another member of my family who is not able to answer your questions; or you may reach my voice mail box. The club budget (and my personal budget) does not allow me to return long distance telephone calls. Also, at times I don't have time for long telephone conversations. I don't advertise my home number as a business number, but it is listed for anyone who wishes to call information. If you want to take a chance and call me that is fine - I don't mind at all just so long as you fully understand and accept the conditions I've listed in this paragraph. You can FAX me or E-mail me at the numbers listed at the start of this letter.

Memberships are offered on a NON-refundable basis only. We don't offer trial memberships and (as you can see from the club magazines) we often have sales for fan club members only so NON-members who choose to use our club services pay more - there is also a higher NON-member order charge for shipping and packaging.

Most of the items listed in them are still available through our fan club. In case of price changes, the most recent prices of course apply. Check the OUT-OF-PRINT listing in the most recent updates for items that are no longer available.

Also be aware that we don't guarantee to have the cheapest price on every item. For example, sometimes you can obtain certain video tape titles cheaper at Walmart or some other store than we can get them for you. We suggest that if you find a cheaper source for certain items you buy from them because we don't match others prices. We are also a source for many tapes not listed in any of the enclosed catalogs, so if you are looking for something write and request us to do a search for it. Don't ask us to do complete searches over the telephone because we have many sources to check.

I took the time to write you this long letter in an attempt to cover all of the things that have come up in during the more than forty years that I have run clubs and to anticipate any questions you may have. If you still don't understand something or have questions, write and ask me. I eventually answer all of my mail but it sometimes takes awhile. Join and/or order items though my fan club only if you fully understand and agree to all of the club rules. I thank you for your interest in our fan club and hope that you decide to join us.

In closing I wish to again stress that we moved in 1997. Our present address is:

SERIALS ON VIDEO

A lot has happened in recent years as far as serials on video are concerned. Most of the companies we previously obtained vhs tapes from no longer make them or have gone out of business. This includes Republic Home Video, Timeless Video, Hollywood Select Video, Discount Video, RKO Home Video and more. Many major firms no longer make VHS tapes – only DVDs. However, almost all of the serials and B- westerns previously listed are still available on custom vhs tapes as they are in the public domain. But be aware that most of the vhs tapes no longer come in cases with posters on them – they mainly come in plain generic cases or in regular vhs tape cases. VHS serial sets are still $19.95 for members and $29.95 for NON-members.

Many serials are now available on DVDs. Serial DVD prices for members are $19.95 per serial except where a cheaper price is listed below. Serial DVD prices for NON-members are $19.95 each except where a higher regular price is listed. The two main firms that make serial DVDs are VCI and Alpha. In some cases they both make DVDs of the same serial. In my opinion VCI usually does a better job than Alpha. Here is a listing of the serials available on video. The vhs tapes of these serials are $19.95 each for members. Prices for the DVDs are listed. I have also listed the lost serials we are still looking for a source for;
