You may have prayed for Sarah. Her father, Ronnie SeCoy, took the note that Sarah had written, added a picture of her and brief typed explanation. He took that master and had 300 copies printed on pink paper. (Pink became the theme color for the prayer campaign for Sarah, which is why this page has a pink background.) That simple prayer request was copied millions of times, until people all over the world were praying for little Sarah.
Sarah was rushed to the emergency room at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on February 8, 1993. The diagnosis was Acute Myelogenic Leukemia. A normal blood test will show about 6,000 white cells. An illness such as the flu might raise the counts to 12,000. If your count rises to 100,000 you are in mortal danger, and over 200,000 you would almost certainly slip into a coma. Sarah's initial counts when she arrived at the hospital were 480,000 and they were rapidly climbing. Ultimately they reached over 1,000,000. This would begin a multi-year incredible struggle to keep little Sarah alive. More medical effort, more money and more prayers were delivered to the cause of this one child than had ever been done before.
When it appeared that Sarah had only moments to live, Ronnie cried out, "Lord, send an angel, NOW!!! My daughter perishes." A quiet firm voice was heard in the room, by Sarah, her father and mother, and some sixty miles away in the bedroom of eight year old brother Matthew as he knelt in prayer. At approximately 1:15 AM in the morning the voice said, "Everything is going to be alright." Later, Sarah would tell her family of her guardian angel who would reassure her by his presence.
There was no way this child could possibly be alive -- but she was! Sarah's faith and courage in the face of a catastrophic illness is one of the most heart-warming proofs of the power of prayer you could ever find. Sarah did not just survive, she was cured! Her doctors discovered a treatment which saved her life and has since saved the lives of tens of thousands of other critically ill children.
Ronnie SeCoy, Sarah's father, has documented the entire miraculous series of events in a new book called SARAH'S SONG. You may purchase a copy of Ronnies book and also receive a cassette of their music by sending any donation to: PO Box 2495, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. (Note: Ronnies actual cost for both & shipping approx. $14.00)
If you were one of the wonderful people who prayed for Sarah, please send us an email and let us know. Ronnie, now recovering from cancer, has his own outreach ministry to children in hospitals and to truckers along Ohio's interstate truck stops. We will pass your messages on to Ronnie, and we know it will encourage him.
