Romance Towers Crossover IV

Previously on Friends and Foes,

  • Lyndsay testified to the court, and her testimony was turned around for the worse.
  • Kortni explained her situation to Devin, who came reunited with Brandi for the first time in over a year.
  • Taylor testified, trying to help Amanda, and the secret about Alex hitting Josie came out to the jury.
  • IN ROMANCE TOWERS: Brody Carmichael interviewed Amanda for her public profile in Flair Magazine, and Cameron scolded Alex and Taylor for not telling him the whole story. Cameron started to focus on changing the jury’s mindset.

    THE COURTROOM - MIDDAY

Cameron and Amanda sit in their prospective seats inside the courtroom. Alex, Taylor, Candice, and Lyndsay sit behind them, offering their support. Lauren, the DA, sits behind her table next to Cameron. The judge is just taking his seat and court is about to begin. Amanda turns to Cameron.

    "What’s next?" she whispers.

"Just sit back and enjoy the show. It’ll all be over soon!" Cameron smiles.

In the back of the courtroom, Megan walks in and looks around. Cameron turns and their eyes meet for a second, but neither smile or hold the stare. Cameron turns back to the judge and Megan takes a seat in the back of the courtroom.

"Does the prosecution have any further witnesses?" the judge asks.

"No your honor. The state rests," Lauren says, never rising out of her seat.

"Then, would the defense please call their first witness?"

"Yes, your honor," Cameron begins. "I’d like to call Alex Harrison to the stand."

DEVIN’S DORM ROOM, SAN DIEGO, CA - NIGHT

"What are you doing here?" Devin snaps, immediately defensive, his instincts kicking in.

"I’m here to help you, Devin, I’m not here to harm you whatsoever." Brandi pleads. Kortni watches on, not daring enough to interfere between this long-avoided meeting.

"Like Hell." Devin smirks, "I want you out of my place, now."

"Devin..." Kortni whimpers, "She’s really here to help."

"I don’t want her help! I would rather..." He bites his tongue, looking at Brandi’s new innocence and the serious expression on Kortni’s face. "Fine. But you make one false move and you are out of my house and life. For good."

    Brandi nods.

After an eerie, icy moment, Kortni speaks. "It’s settled then. We are going to save Jeff. And you two are going to tag along and help."

Brandi seems worried. "Isn’t there a more...professional FBI way of doing that?"

"Please, the FBI is a sham. If you want something done in this country, you have to do it yourself. Now stop complaining and let’s go!"

Kortni stomps out of the dorm, leaving Brandi and Devin looking on in awe.

"A rebel are we?" Brandi remarks.

    THE COURTROOM - AFTERNOON

Cameron remains standing as Alex walks up to the stand. Alex glances at Amanda and smiles as he takes his seat upon the stand. Candice walks in the courtroom and sits in the back, on the prosecution side.

"Mr. Harrison... the night that Josie was killed ... did you fear for your life in any way?" Cameron questions.

"Yes. Very much. If Amanda wouldn’t have gotten there when she did, then Taylor and I would both be dead right now."

"How can you be sure of that?"

"She stabbed Taylor and left him for dead while she held a gun to me!" Alex says.

    "And then what happened?"

"Amanda came and she saved our lives."

"How so?" Cameron calmly asks. As Alex begins to answer, Cameron turns and looks back at Megan.

"Amanda got the gun away from Josie and then the two of them got into it. They fought. I went after Taylor. He had been under for a little while, so that was the first thing on my mind. When I came back up, Josie was dead. She hit her head on the side."

"Alex, do believe that somebody had to die that day on that boat?" Cameron questions slowly.

"Yes. If it wouldn’t have been Josie, then it would have been the three of us."

"So, in your opinion...Amanda acted in defense of her own life?"

    "Yes. Without a doubt, yes."

"Thank you. I have no further questions, your honor," Cameron says going back to his seat.

No sooner than Cameron takes his seat, does Lauren jump out of hers. Cameron takes another look back at Megan. He smiles at her and she stares numbly at him. She mouths the words 'I need to see you, now!' to him. Cameron turns back to the court proceedings. Lauren has no approached Alex and is right up in his face.

"Before the day of this incident, Mr. Harrison, who was Josie to you?" Lauren questions.

"I didn’t know her all that well." Alex says.

"Let me rephrase the question...what was she to you?"

"I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean?"

"I mean, before the day in question...Josie Lische was dead to you! She was the girl you ran over with your car and left for dead! No...you didn’t even leave her for dead. You tried to make sure she was dead. You and your friend, Taylor, went out of your way to make sure her life ceased to exist. It’s a shame it didn’t work for you!" Lauren says meanly getting in Alex’s face.

"No," Alex begins shaken by her questioning. "I thought she was dead. I was scared and I didn’t want to get in trouble."

"Yeah, well you sure have made a hell of a mess out of it now, haven’t you! Wouldn’t it have been a whole lot easier had you just called the police in the first place?"

Cameron leans forward. "Objection your honor! My client is not on trial here."

"I’ll allow it," moans the judge.

Lauren continues. "I’m not so sure the events panned out the way you say they did, Alex. I mean you don’t know what happened between the two girls when you were under water, right?"

    "I know..."

"Yes or no," Lauren says cutting him off.

"No, I don’t know what really happened."

"And Amanda doesn’t know what happened before she got there?"

    "No. I suppose she didn’t."

"Then, how are we suppose to believe you! How is anybody? Isn’t it possible that you’re lying! Isn’t it possible that Josie came out there to confront you and you had the gun. You didn’t want to her to speak. You said yourself that you didn’t want to get in trouble. Killing her out there meant you wouldn’t pay the price for what you did!"

"I didn’t kill her!" Alex screams.

"You’re right," Lauren begins slowly. "You didn’t have to because Amanda did it for you! I think Josie came out there to bring you to justice. I think you manipulated the situation and Amanda killed Josie and now you never have t worry about her again!"

"If that’s true," Alex begins angrily, "If Josie wanted us arrested...then why didn’t she call the police?"

Cameron shakes his head as Alex smirks devoutly, thinking he’s just outdone the district attorney. Lauren goes back to her desk and picks up a piece of paper and turns to Alex and smiles.

"Oh but she did! I hold in my hands a police report that Josie filed on the day of her murder," Lauren says smiling and handing it to the judge. "I’d like to enter it as state exhibit D."

"Objection your honor! I knew nothing about that report!" Cameron hollers, jumping out of his seat.

"Your honor...this is crucial to the state’s case. It was just given to me today!" Lauren explains.

"I’ll allow it, seeing as how crucial it is!" the judge says. Lauren turns to Alex.

"You may have tried to get away with murder, Mr. Harrison, but you’re not going to," she smiles. "I have no further questions your honor."

Alex buries his head and Cameron falls back into his seat. Amanda turns to Cameron.

"What does this mean?" Amanda asks.

"It means if you go to jail, you may not go alone," Cameron says depressed.

"Alright, court is dismissed. We will meet again here tomorrow at 10 am." The judge slams down his gavel and stands up as the audience becomes alive with controversy.

    LYNDSAY’S DORM ROOM - NIGHT

Lyndsay sits in a dark room, cuddled on a couch with Taylor, the light from the candles reverberating off the walls.

"19 years old." Taylor says, smiling, holding Lyndsay tight against his body.

"19," Lyndsay smiles, "That’s such a random, vague number...it seems so unimportant. But this has been the craziest year of my life. I lost my best friend, I was grilled on trial, and now you are in trouble..." Taylor interrupts her. "I’m sure SOME good things have happened."

"Oh definitely," Lyndsay smiles, turning her face towards Taylor. "I found you. And that’s the best birthday gift I have ever received."

They begin to kiss, their passion boiling over, their every emotion exchanged through their tender lips.

She pulls away for a brief moment, looking into his eyes, then hesitantly, "Taylor, I...I love you."

Tears of joy well in her eyes as Taylor replies, "I love you."

    They kiss again.

    **LATER**

    "Happy Birthday."

Lyndsay turns around. She’s in the same apartment as her first dream, bright and airy...perhaps a bachelor pad. Josie is standing before her, smiling.

"Thanks." Lyndsay says. Josie slowly approaches her.

"I told you I’d be here!" Josie smiles and gives Lyndsay a warm hug. "I love you so much, and I want you to be happy."

Lyndsay smiles, a tear rolling down her cheek. "I know..."

"Lyndsay-" Josie coos, "The reason I keep coming back to you is that there’s some unfinished business."

"What is it?" Lyndsay cries, tears gushing from her innocent eyes.

"A warning." Josie says. "Your relationship is going to be threatened very soon. Be aware, ok?"

Lyndsay is confused, but greatful, nonetheless. "Thank you."

They hug, and Josie looks deeply into Lyndsay’s eyes. "Alright, babe. It’s time to say good-bye."

"Ok," Lyndsay smiles, tears falling incessantly. "Good-bye Josie."

    "NO tears. Be happy!"

Her last words resound through Lyndsay’s mind like the deafening throb of a locomotive. She sits up, out of breath, the tears falling from her eyes beginning to cease. Josie was gone. And for the first time in weeks, Lyndsay feels at peace.

    COURTROOM - THE NEXT DAY

"Your honor, I’d like a brief recess to confer with my client," Cameron says standing in front of the judge.

"Actually, if it’s all the same to you, I’d like to keep moving through this," the judge orders.

    "Your honor, just a minute...please?"

    "You have thirty seconds counselor."

Cameron turns to Amanda and Alex and Taylor lean forward over the rail.

"I need to call Candice," Cameron says bluntly.

    "What? Why?" Alex says frustrated.

"It’s the only way I see possible to save the three of you," Cameron explains.

"The three of us...what do you mean?" Taylor panics.

"With that police report...you can all go to jail now! If I call Candice, then she’s the one person that the DA can’t touch!"

"Then you have to do it!" Taylor shouts.

"No!" Alex says franticly. "Leave her out of it!"

"Call her. Call her," Amanda orders.

Cameron stands up and faces that judge. "Your honor, the defense calls Candice Rogers to the stand."

The court shuffles in a frenzy and Candice stands up and walks to the stand. She gives Alex a harsh stare as she passes. She takes her seat on the stand. Cameron rises from his seat and proceeds toward Candice. Alex leans forward and stares in anticipation of what is going to happen next.

    "Good afternoon." Cameron greets Candice.

    "Hello," she replies warily.

"Candice...may I call you Candice," Cameron begins as Candice nods her head in approval. "Your boyfriend could go to jail...do you understand that?"

    "Yes," Candice replies.

"Then how in the world can you sit back and let that happen...knowing you have the evidence to set him free?"

"What...what are you talking about?" Candice questions nervously.

"I’m talking about the letter...the letter that you gave Alex by mistake on the night of the accident." Cameron says leaning into Candice.
