  Flamenco

Baila! Baila! We love to demonstrate that flamenco’s appeal is universal! We’re Bette Lucas and her students, Bloomington’s own flamenco dance group. An ever evolving mix of experienced and beginning dancers, we’re united by camaraderie and hard work. You might have seen us perform at the Monroe County Public Library, Waldron Arts Center, Mathers Museum, Buskirk-Chumley Theatre, Multi-Cultural Expo, Franklin IN Arts Center, and Indiana University Roof Ballroom--with more to come.
Students progress through flamenco’s intricate hand and arm movements, footwork with its distinctive percussion and speed, plus castanets, the fan, and the shawl. Among dance forms we learn is Spain’s most popular traditional dance, the Sevillanas, danced by ordinary people in nightclubs as well as at Seville’s annual feria, or fair.
