So what's the difference between a "scoop" and a "spoiler"?? A scoop reveals a small amount of info about the film, the cast, etc but does NOT discuss the plot in any great detail. A spoiler is just that! It explicitly tells you the plot of the film--no holds barred. All spoilers are in black text. Right click and drag your cursor down the page to view them! You've been warned! So now, if you get "spoiled" you have only yourself to blame!

March 22, 2001: From Empire Online, ILM discusses Special FX in the film:

Industrial Light + Magic don't like to advertise. Tucked away in a lush corner of wealthy Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, the headquarters of George Lucas's legendary digital FX house is situated in a dowdy strip mall. Sandwiched between low-rise, blank-faced office buildings and across the street from a donut shop, the unprepossessing smoked glass door, which still bears the insignia of the previous incumbent, offers no clue that beyond lies the most prestigious supplier of movie eye candy in the world.

Once inside though, a parade of glass-cased memorabilia and highly exclusive wall art gives the game away - Captain Hook's hook from, Hook, a Star Wars stormtrooper, a plethora of posters, models and awards (including an Empire "inspiration" award) and, in a corner, dark lord of the Sith and Luke Skywalker's dad, Darth Vader himself.

Two giant spacecraft from Galaxy Quest loom over the boardroom table, matte paintings from ET adorn the walls and in one corridor a vast blow-up of a still from Jason And The Argonauts bears the legend "Best Wishes, Ray Harryhausen."

In the theatre where George Lucas perfected the THX audio system (watched over by R2-D2, who stands in a corner near the screen), John Berton, Visual Effects Supervisor on The Mummy Returns, presides over a screening of dailies. It is, needless to say, a packed house. Every time Berton declares a sequence a pass there is a rousing round of applause. And no wonder. Here are a couple of things to whet your appetite: Good news is, the flesh-eating scarabs are back - and out in force. In one scene a swarm of the things overrun a group of characters clambering out of a pit. One unfortunate has a few burrowing frantically under his skin before they gush out of his screaming mouth. Yesss!

In another spectacular sequence, tens of thousands of Anubis warriors (fearsome, nine-foot tall dog creatures) clash with a similarly vast army of sword-wielding Arab horsemen in the desert - Lawrence Of Arabia meets The Evil Dead.

There's plenty of familiar faces from the first movie, but among other new creatures are the vicious pygmy mummies who patrol the jungle surrounding the Temple Of, sorry, the Pyramid Of Gold, slaughtering anyone foolish enough to seek it out. Described as the "Anti-Ewoks" by Art Director Alex Laurant, these are truly horrible little things. In one great scene they chase human stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah over the ubiquitous rickety wooden bridge. Fraser throws them a stick of dynamite that they squabble over until it explodes, plunging them and the log bridge into the ravine below.

Perhaps the most impressive of ILM's achievements on The Mummy Returns is transforming American wrestling star The Rock into the Scorpion King. Sporting the body of a giant scorpion and the head and torso of The Rock, this is a 100 % digital creation and the first instance of a real character being rendered photorealistically by computer animation. Although we only saw a glimpse of it, the fight scene between this nightmare creation and Brendan Fraser's Rick O'Connell promises to make his punch-up with the skeletons in the first movie look like a chimpanzee's tea party.

March 3, 2001: There is a new trailer online! Visit "AV Clips of the Week" for the link. Stills of Arnold from the trailer are available here.

February 14, 2001: The Rock visited the Toy Fair in New York this past week to promote Jakks Pacific's new line of "The Mummy Returns" toys. Scoop couresy of MovieHeadlines.Net.

February 8, 2001: Lots of little updates today! Universal has bumped up the release date to May 4th! Here's the press release:

Universal Pictures will release "The Mummy Returns," the eagerly-anticipated sequel to its 1999 worldwide hit, on Friday, May 4, 2001, one week earlier than previously scheduled, it was announced today by Nikki Rocco, president, Universal Pictures Distribution.

The film, once again written and directed by Stephen Sommers, reunites original cast members Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, and Patricia Velasquez, who are joined this time by newcomer Freddie Boath and WWF sensation The Rock as "The Scorpion King." James Jacks and Sean Daniel are again the producers.

In announcing the new date, Ms.Rocco said, "We've just seen a very early cut of the film, and it's fabulous. In 1999, the summer movie season really got its start the first weekend in May when we released 'The Mummy,' so we've decided to launch this year's summer movie season that same weekend with 'The Mummy Returns.' We've got the goods, and one more week of summer playing time will be a great bonus for us."

"The Mummy Returns" is set in 1935, 10 years after the events of the first film. Rick O'Connell (Fraser) is now married to Evelyn (Weisz), and the couple has settled in London, where they are raising their 9-year-old son Alex (Boath). When a chain of events finds the corpse of Imhotep (Vosloo) resurrected in the British Museum, the mummy Imhotep walks the earth once more, determined to fulfill his quest for immortality. But another force has also been set loose in the world ... one born of the darkest rituals of ancient Egyptian mysticism, and even more powerful than Imhotep. When these two forces clash, the fate of the world will hang in the balance, sending the O'Connells on a desperate race to save the world from unspeakable evil, and rescue their son before it is too late.

Sommers brought back his key behind-the-scenes team for this film, including Director of Photography Adrian Biddle, Production Designer Allan Cameron, Costume Designer John Bloomfield, and Editor and Executive Producer Bob Ducsay. John Berton supervised the visual effects wizards at Industrial Light and Magic for "The Mummy Returns."

The film's predecessor, "The Mummy," was the 8th biggest hit of 1999 and number 31 on the list of all-time box office champs, having grossed more than $404 million worldwide. It was also the top-selling live home video action title of 1999, debuting at the top of the Billboard sales charts, where it held the number one spot for three consecutive weeks. In addition, "The Mummy" was the second best-selling DVD title of 1999, shipping more than one million units.

"The Mummy" is coming to a comic book store near you! May 9th, a prequel created by Matt Broome and Marv Wolfman will be available. Meet them in person and receive your free copy at AV Con 2001: The Mummy and Beyond.

December 31, 2000: An interview today with Christian Simpson, body double for Brendan Fraser in "The Mummy Returns". He found Arnold to be very nice and professional. He also commented that as long as spoilers are marked as such he found nothing wrong with them being posted. That's about all there is of interest to AV fans. The link to the original source can be found on my links page. Thanks to Carol for the scoop.

December 20, 2000: I now have a short .mpg of the trailer featured on "The Mummy" game for pc's. This is a different trailer than the one now known as the 'teaser' trailer and mixes in a lot of footage from the original film. To view, a still and the .mpg, visit the new "The Mummy" Game section of my site.

December 7, 2000: Oded Fehr gives an interview to Popcorn about TMR. There is also a streaming video clip (which I haven't been able to access yet, it keeps telling me there is "net congestion").

November 22, 2000: Well, that may be it for the Trailer! Seems Universal attached the trailer to all copies of "The Grinch" and later issued a directive for theatre owners NOT to show it. The trailer has been deemed inappropriate for younger children (who obviously would be seeing the Jim Carrey flick!). Wakey, wakey! For the full story, CLICK HERE.

November 18, 2000: The official site is now operational: www.themummy.com. New pics, cast bios, screensaver, trailers and more. Nice site, well done!

I've added some new pics from the site to my Pictures page.

November 13, 2000: A new website, The Galactic Senate, has a set report from "Bull":

"I spent this summer at Shepperton Studios in the U.K. working for Imhotep Productions on the Mummy Returns. With everything I have seen I have to say that this will be one hell of a movie. The Production has apparently doubled in size and budget from the original and the Universal reps that frequented the set were all very excited and banking on huge box office receipts.

The talk almost execs was that there would definitely be a Mummy 3. The sets are huge and take up 90% of studio space with the remainder being used for advertising and preproduction of "possession" the new Gwenyth Paltrow movie.

The pictures I have mailed you come from the Studio back lot the only place a camera can be taken as security is very tight. These shots were taken while assisting the second unit in filming a key sequence from the movies end shot later that day. The scene involves Brendon Fraser being chased by what could be an army of mummies extras were shot against a giant blue screen with ILM adding the CGI later. Fraser runs through the middle of the tomb entrance while various pyrotechnics explode all around him. It was very spectacular to watch and I can't wait to see the finished shot on screen. In side the studio sound stage J houses what was said to be the world biggest moveable set, Imhoteps tomb. This is very impressive however it's not really an exclusive any more as Universal had a press day and invited many members of the media to see the set for themselves. Several key scenes involving the bus chase were also filmed inside the studio car park.

For your information Shepperton studios will house it's biggest ever movie next year production begins in June 2001 (I'll let you speculate) however as I understand it in involves Dreamworks. Whilst it's shrouded in secrecy my service along with others have been retained by the studio, so I will be in touch again".

4 pictures from "Bull" can be accessed thru my "Pictures" page.

November 10, 2000: Some news tonight from Corona Coming Attractions and an anonymous source. The trailer is likely going to be shown in conjunction with "The Grinch" which opens nationwide November 17th. The trailer is a HARD PG-13 (?) and may not be shown at all theatres.

Entertainment Tonight will be doing yet another story on TMR this Monday, November 13th. I'll post pics and footage ASAP!

November 8, 2000: More pictures from MovieHeadlines.Net and that reel of footage shown in Dallas!

November 7, 2000: Some interesting descriptions from my Anonymous Scooper....

**MAJOR SPOILERS**

You must highlight text in order to read it!

The Pygimes are small, skeletel and alien looking in appearance. They are capable of firing darts from their mouth and of maneovring around the jungle undetected. They play a large part in a jungle chase scene with Rick and his son.

When Imhotep is found at the start of the film (at the dig site of the City of the Dead) beetles appear from a pit and kill the diggers working in it, one digger gets out, but the beetles are inside his body (like in the 1st film). Also 3 other minor henchmen who look like a bunch of badly dressed 'Indiana Jones'-wannabes are also killed by the beetles. Before they die, these 3 tell the Curator, Meela and Loch Nah where Imhotep's body can be found.

November 6, 2000: More pictures today from MovieHeadlines.Net. More of the Scorpion King in action at the beginning of the film, but what I found interesting was the picture of the bracelet which both the SK and Imhotep are after:
