Dear Friend,
Laurie is a fourth grader at Pine Estates Elementary School. She lives with her mother and stepfather. Laurie reads on a second grade level. Her school principal says Laurie is one of 115 children at the elementary school who face the danger of failing reading and math. The tutors at Operation Out of Egypt, after school program, believe in Laurie's ability to succeed even though she does not. Laurie's parents and her school asked us to help her and other children like her. We could not say no. Look Up and Live's O.O.E is our response. However, our resources are limited.
Millions of children throughout this nation stare hopelessly at the chalkboard everyday with confused looks as they fall farther and farther behind in their studies. Our children's impending failure could be avoided if they were given a little extra encouragement. The school board in Duval County can't provide that additional help with the subtraction of $30,000 from Pine Estates budget. Nor can most parents give their children the tools to learn in a community populated with single, working away from the home to survive, female-headed households. Look Up and Live and New Life Community Church have shared the gospel with children and their families in the Jacksonville area.
Now, we desire to go one step further in fulfilling the Good News by feeding hungry children, clothing the unclothed, and restoring hope to all who have lost hope in their ability to succeed.
Little children like Laurie and her 115 classmates seek our help and we need your help. Please consider giving a donation of your time or money. Your gift of any amount is important and deeply appreciated. No amount is either too little or too great to give to our children.
Time: Apply to be a tutor in our O.O.E after school program by contacting the project director at (904) 768-7779. You can also call us if you would like to contribute your time as a volunteer.
Money: Your gift of $25 pays for a weeks worth of after school meals: $50 buys learning materials; $100 - 500 provides computers to help children and their parents enter the information age. Once we receive your donation we will send you our monthly newsletter that charts the ministry's progress..
