INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS AND TURKEYS POSITION: Turkey has ratified the "Paris Agreement for Protection of Industrial Property Rights" and the Convention of TRIPS, and is a member of WTO and WIPO. As of January 1996, Turkey joined the European Customs Union and thereby adopted most of the latest developments in Intellectual Property Laws to the Turkish National Legislation by Decree Laws in 1995. Turkey also became of a party to the Treaty of Berne 28 May 1951 and after the amendment in 1995, Turkish Copyright Law arises computer programs, databases and graphics. There are also new Protection of Trademarks, Industrial Designs, Patents and Geographical Indications Laws in Turkey since 1995.
COUNTERFEIT MARKET: Turkey is still one of the biggest counterfeit market in the World, even under new regulations. There are 99 % counterfeit computer and video games Software, 80 % counterfeit other PC software in Turkish Market. According to Commercial Ministry reports, benefit of counterfeit software was more than 600.000.000.-USD in last year.
