Bruce "The Bruiser" Meade . . . ASA Hall of Fame selection adds to USSSA and NSA; Three-time MVP in national tournaments; Hit 22 home runs for Nelson's in 1977 ASA; Set record for most .700-plus seasons -- seven, until Dirk Androff posted 10 between 1988 and 1997. Meade's best seasons were .764 for Nelson's in 1977, .757 for Dave Carroll's Skoal Bandits in 1980, .767 for Dave Carroll and Jerry's in 1981 and .746 for Elite in 1985.

Mighty Joe Young . . . double MVP in 1979 (ASA with Nelco and NSPC with Nelson's); Set record-at-the-time with 337 home runs for Steele's in 1980


Herman Rathman . . . hit 22 home runs for Nelson's in 1977 ASA; co-MVP with Bruce Meade, who also hit 22 HRs


Dick Bartel . . . MVP for Howard's in the 1981 NSPC . . . they called him "The Rocketman"


Charles Wright . . . they called him "The Georgia Peach" . . . 4-time MVP
He holds No. 452 home run ball after breaking Rick Scherr's record; he finished the 1986 season with 503 home runs; the next season Mike Macenko topped that with 844.
Wright, from Columbus, Ga., played on a record six successive Smoky Mountain Classic winners between 1982-87, then on another four in a row from 1993-96.


Doug Roberson . . . MVP for Steele's in 1988 NSA and for Ritch's/Superior in 1995 ISA
Twice had two grand slams in one inning for Steele's barnstorming team; had 20 and 21 RBI on back-to-back nights and 44 in three games another year


Cecil Whitehead and Dave Steffen . . . Whitehead was MVP for Howard's in the 1988 ISA World Series and for Ritch's in the 1990 USSSA World Series . . . Steffen was the MVP for the R/S Express in the 1992 USSSA World Series and the 1993 ISA World Series




Curtis and Steve Williams . . . Milton, Fla., brothers played for many top teams
They played together in 1976 for H.G. Harder's of Panama City (Steve's first season), then again for Howard's in 1988 (Steve's last season); Curtis played at the age of 42 with Sunbelt/Easton in 1998, and he will be playing in 1999 with W.E.T./Easton out of the Florida Panhandle
