The rare groove merchants listed below are not listed in any particular order. The city where each store is located follows each description in parentheses, but all stores have online catalogs and ordering. Check them out to get your grooves wherever you may be.
You can find tons of what I play on Soul Power right here. Service and selection is impeccable. They describe each title. And there's plenty for those of you who prefer CDs to vinyl. (Chicago)
Great service, great design, and greater selection make this online store a winner. There's great rare grooves in the funk/soul section plus a New Orleans section (yeah!) and a "budget" section where you can find some real nice ones. Plus a special 12" section. (New Orleans)
Dealer Seth's "primary interest is in collecting rare pieces of wax for beat-digging purposes." He has now made his collection available to you so check him out. The site has a limited selection of vinyl, but clean layout and cool prices. Plus he has very positive Ebay customer feedback! Trade inquiries are welcome here. (San Francisco)
Webmaster Raymond Devaux of Europe is selling some nice pieces from his personal collection. His eclectic music selection ranges from funky rare grooves to library music and Belgian jazz! You'll find lots of international titles and pressings too. Want lists and trades are accepted. (And his want list is also on the site.)
Here's a new online offering for all you serious rare groove fans and crate diggers with deep pockets. The emphasis here is on quality pieces over quantity, and each piece, whether it's soul, funk, rare jazz, moog, soundtrack, breakbeats, or exotica, is carefully annotated. They're open to trading and want your want lists! (Belgium)
Selection is great. If you can figure out how to convert British pounds into US dollars (or the currency of your choice), then you won't have a problem choosing among "Vibes From the Tribe" by Phil Ranelin, LTG Exchange's "WaterBed" single, or that self-titled album by the 1619 Bad Ass Band.
Visit "Black & Dance Music Specialist" Des Toussaint's domain for a gigantic selection of titles divided by 12 inches, albums, and 45s. Some of the amazing pieces I spotted were The Rhythm Makers' (later GQ) Soul on your Side and Simtec & Wylie's Gettin' Over the Hump. Great common pieces as well. (U.K.)
Not a store, but a collector devoted to spreading and selling the groove at low prices for fellow collectors. There's always great stuff to be found so check often.
This store specializes in rare disco, funk, R&B, classic hip hop, and lots and lots of 12" singles you thought you'd never again. There are a few rare groove-y pieces too. Huge inventory. I strongly recommend other dance, R&B, funk, etc. DJs to visit this site. (Hey, hip hop people, get a load of the pic of Newcleus on page "N"!) (New Jersey)
Mostly common pieces, but quite a bit of treasures mixed in. Plus this site is easy both to look at and navigate through. Search engine available. (Kentucky)
Wonderful finds at this site! I like a site that gives notes with each album, and the prices for the rare stuff are damn good. On past visits there, I noticed The Meters' Rejuvenation for $15 bucks, Bar-Kays Black Rock for $20 and We the People by the Soul Searchers for $18. Helllooooo!!! (Canada)
Sweet soul 45s with a bit of funk thrown in for good measure are avail. by auction only, but you'll find some inexpensive r&b/big name funk titles on LP. (UK)
This is actually a label that reissues older rare grooves. I highly recommend all their products. I play them all the time. And do check out the original used vinyl from their private collection that they have for sale here. (San Francisco)
There isn't an online catalog here, but you can download their catalog for off-line searching or just use their online search engine. Don't forget to sign up to recieve his Funk/Soul catalogs. You won't believe what you'll find! (Oregon)
No online catalog--you must send an email to get one. It's worth it for the obscure goodies you'll find every now and then. All the jazz, soul, funk, r&b, disco is mixed in together. Prices ain't bad either! (Florida)
This page is not for half-steppers! You won't believe your eyes when you see the pieces here. They don't come cheap, but isn't it worth it? Webmaster Peter Wermelinger has got the funk you want! Want lists too.
Low on frill (i.e. graphics, audio clips), and high on quality pieces. Tons of rare groove at reasonable prices. Plus the collector describes each album. Large budget section. (Greece)
