HONIARA -
BUDGET
ISLAND LODGE
Island Lodge is a basic
accommodation facility located downtown, next to the Quality Motel and near the main
market. The lodge is new, very clean and well maintained but there are other buildings
on either side so no views and not much breeze. There are single and double
rooms, each with bed, cupboard, table and a fan. Linen is supplied. Bathrooms are
shared but clean. There is a guest kitchen with all cooking facilities, and a sitting room
and verandah for socialising with visitors and other guests. The Lodge is convenient to
a number of small restaurants and snack bars.
TARIFF: Single room
AUD$45/USD$27. Double/twin room AUD$55/USD$33.
HONIARA - MID-RANGE
HONIARA
HOTEL
The Honiara Hotel is located behind Chinatown, a short walk to
shops and 20min walk or short bus ride downtown. This is one of the oldest hotels in
S.I., with 66 rooms, lobby lounge, restaurant, bar, pool, hire cars, gift shop, and 24
hour reception. The west wing rooms ("standard") are well worn but all have
airconditioning, private bathrooms, satellite TV, D-D phones, fridge, tea/coffee. There
are also "budget" rooms which we don't recommend as they are very hot and have
poor privacy. The new wing of deluxe rooms up on the hillside above the old hotel are
well appointed with smart fittings and comfy furniture, and have great views of the
town and coastline.
TARIFF: Standard single AUD$85/USD$53. Standard
double/twin AUD$100/USD$63. Deluxe single AUD$125/USD$78. Deluxe
double/twin AUD$147/USD$92
QUALITY MOTEL
Located
downtown, on a hillside looking over the main market with great sea views, the
Quality Motel is an easy walk to everything. Following recent expansion and
upgrading, there are now 30 rooms, some fan-cooled and some airconditioned. Each
room has private bathroom, tea/coffee, fridge, D-D phone and optional satellite TV.
Most rooms open directly onto the street behind the motel for access. There is a small
restaurant which does light meals and snacks, and other eateries are nearby. Quality
Motel has the cheapest airconditioned rooms in Honiara.
TARIFF:
Single/twin/double - fan AUD$59/USD$37. Single/twin/double - aircon
AUD$68/USD$43. Some deluxe rooms and one self-contained family unit also
available.
AIRPORT MOTEL
The Airport Motel is a short walk
from the airport terminal, in a quiet location 15 min drive from town. The motel
courtesy bus does free airport transfers for your arrival/departure and there are daily
trips into town. Public buses and taxis are available on the nearby main road.
The motel is a double-storey building with 15 rooms, all airconditioned with private
bathrooms, D-D phones, and tea/coffee. There is a good little restaurant, and a bar.
The Airport Motel is convenient for transit stopovers and for those wanting to avoid
the hustle and bustle of Honiara town.
TARIFF: Standard
single/double/twin AUD$76/USD$48. Deluxe single/double/twin
AUD$82/USD$51
HONIARA - UPMARKET

terrace cafe gets plenty of onshore breeze. There are 96 rooms, all airconditioned, with
D-D phones, satellite TV, fridge, mini bar, tea/coffee. Other facilities include a la carte
restaurant, bar, all-day snacks, pool, gift shop, tour bookings, car rentals, 24-hr

Incorporating the old
Hibiscus Hotel, the King Solomon is Honiara's newest upmarket hotel. New suites
have been built on the steep hillside above the lobby, with access by cable car (or stairs
for the fit and keen). Seaview rooms have expansive views of Iron Bottom Sound and
nearby islands. There is a huge Melanesian-style leaf roof covering the lobby,
restaurant and bar. Rooms in the hillside wings all have aircon with satellite TV/in-
house videos, D-D phones, fridge, tea/coffee. Hotel facilities include lobby lounge, 2
restaurants, bar, all-day snacks, pool, dive shop, gift shop, bottle shop, laundry service,
tennis court, tour bookings, business facilities, car rentals, 24 hr reception. The hotel
is only a few minutes walk from the centre of town, one block inland from the waterside.

IRON BOTTOM SOUND HOTEL
The IBS is one of the newer hotels in Honiara, located on the waterfront
near the Rove market, close to frequent buses but only a 15 minute walk from the
centre of town. The coral beach is not suitable for swimming but there is a pool and
plenty of ocean breeze. The IBS is not as large as the Mendana or the King Solomon
and has a more limited range of facilities (no gift shop or dive shop) but the upside of
this is that it is much quieter. Rooms are nice, all ground-level, with airconditioning,
king-size beds, D-D phones, fridge, tea/coffee, and most have sea views.
Hotel services include Chinese restaurant, bar, all-day snacks, laundry service, tour
bookings, car rentals, 24 hr reception.

and there are 5 guest rooms upstairs which sleep up to 4 people. If you're travelling
alone and they have a full house you may have to share your room with someone
else of the same sex unless you offer to pay extra to keep your own room. Rooms are
spartan (beds, linen, cupboard, fan) but very clean. There are 2 shared bathrooms, a
large guest kitchen, and a lounge area with public phone. The breezy verandahs have
great views. No meals are available so you either cook for yourself, bring home
takeaway, or eat at the nearby Gizo Hotel. It's a nice family atmosphere at the Naqua
