2. The Interior: Re-Conversion To A Motorhome

Once Flxy could be moved around, it was time to begin the interior reconversion. This would be preceeded by a complete gutting, right out to the skin. The window units would also have to be removed, and the interior metal around them prepped, primered, and finish painted.

The Gutting

As it happened, it didn't go in two distinct stages. Rather, the gutting, window removal, repainting, and insulation and panelling sort of went concurrently.

The interior - old cabinets shown have been de-installed and are now mobile, being used for tools and such. Window removal and metal refinishing has not yet begun.

All interior panelling and insulation will be removed, and replaced in stages. 5 mil plastic vapour barrier will be used on inside of insulation - pink fiberglas, packed in moderately tightly.

At this stage, the windows have been removed, the metal around them refinished, and they've been replaced. Insulation of the ceiling - and some panelling - has begun. Dukie the Dog supervised.

These scenes from the interior gutting and finishing. Screws which held the window units in place were mostly frozen, and had to be ground off.

Paint was finally stripped from the metal, and metal was refinished, windows replaced. Old insulation and mouse droppings were removed, and new insulation, vapour barrier, and panelling installed. We used mahogany doorblank for panelling - 3/16" for sides, 1/8" for ceiling. Panelling was oiled with Watco (TM) Danish Oil.
