QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


Priti Shah has been doing public speaking for more than a decade and brings a diverse personal and professional background to her presentations. She received her Bachelor of Arts in 1986 and her Bachelor of Laws in 1989, both from the University of Manitoba. She was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Manitoba in 1990 and has experience in the practice of law in both the public and private sectors.

Priti has conducted more than 160 mediation sessions and is a mediator with the Farm Debt Mediation Service and the Federal Mediation Conciliation Service. She was one of the first mediators in Manitoba to receive her designation as a Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator by Family Mediation Canada. She is also a volunteer mediator with Mediation Services and has done some co-mediation at Family Conciliation in Winnipeg.

In 1995, Priti received her certification as an Arbitrator from the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Manitoba. She is on the panel of Arbitrators for the Investment Dealers Association of Canada and the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan. She is also trained as a Human Rights Investigator to deal with complaints of harassment and discrimination.

Priti has travelled extensively and represented the Government of Canada as an international election observer in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has vast experience as a trainer, lecturer, moderator, facilitator, panellist and coach and has facilitated more than 150 workshops in the past three years. She has made presentations from coast to coast, including in San Francisco for the Academy of Family Mediators and in St. John's Newfoundland for the Canadian Bar Association. In addition to presentations on equality and diversity, she trains in the areas of effective communication, conflict resolution, harassment, respectful workplace, negotiation, mediation skills and board development.

In the Summer of 1997, Priti participated in the Habitat for Humanity Cycle of Hope bicycle ride from Kelowna, British Columbia to Winnipeg, Manitoba. The ride, lasting three weeks, covered more than 2400 kilometres over several mountain passes and through the harsh winds of the prairies. Forty-two riders made the trip and raised over $160,000 towards Manitoba Flood Recovery. In the Summer of 2004 Priti participated in the building of 3 Habitat homes in Zambia and in Winnipeg. In the Summer of 2009, she will participate in a build in El Salvador.

Priti has also been actively involved in joint fundraising initiatives with the Manitoba Bar Association and the Manitoba Theatre Centre. Since 1998 she has had parts in "Guys and Dolls", "Fiddler on the Roof", "Pajama Game", "Grease", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "You Can't Take it With You", "Little Shop of Horrors", "Cabaret", "Inherit the Wind" and "Chicago". The productions have raised approximately $600.000 for the theatre and the community in Winnipeg. In May 2005, Priti received the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Contribution to Community from the Women Business Owners of Manitoba.
