June 1904

June 1, 1904  Fine day - fairly busy in shops all the outport men not gone home yet.  Big run on cabbage plants today - Sold 1400 - 1500.

June 5, 1904  Sunday - Fine day but cool - Shower of snow in evening.  Went for walk to farm in afternoon.  Buds on all the strawberries and everything looking blooming.  Went up to LeMarchant Rd.  after church House to House Visiting by self & had very nice time visited Miss K. [likely Edith Knight his future wife] who was alone, playing piano & had very nice time.

June 6, 1904  Day very fine but cold.  Shops closed to-night.  Went to (Epworth) League, topic "Promises of Christ" After went for walk + .

June 9, 1904   Thursday - First half holiday.  Very wet yesterday and all the morning with wind NE.Went to farm in afternoon setting strawberry plants sold 1000 cabbage plants today.

June 10, 1904  Fine - but very cold - Fire started yesterday in basement of shop among nailbags.  Did not do any damage.  Saw E. [probably Edith Knight his future wife] tonight after church and clinched what we were discussing other night.

June 12, 1904  Sunday - Wet all day, wind NE & cold. - After church at night went up to Mr. Pippy's & had singing.

June 13, 1904  Fine day - Days off commerce today Kearney being off.  Pretty busy all day.  Concert by Choral Society (St. John's Choral and Orchestral Society) tonight in (Methodist) College Hall .  Went to (Epworth) League - topic "Imitation of Christ"

June 14, 1904  Splendid day - Not to work - went to farm with father preparing ground for celery etc. Men commenced digging out earth at back of house.

June 15, 1904  very fine day.  Went out walking as far as Kitty Gauls with E. [probably Edith Knight his future wife] after tea.

June 16, 1904  Half holiday - Very fine day - Went to farm after dinner - Dug well - Methodist G.men (Guards' Brigade) have Sham Battle at Mundy's Pond this afternoon.

June 19, 1904  Sunday - Rain showers in morning went with Will Pike to Poor House in the morning - Rev. Maddock preached in morning & Chancery at night.

June 21, 1904  Went to Cochrane pond last night with (George William ?) W. Lemessurier & Will Pike - Dull with rain showers - Fish in Duck Pond & Northern Pond got about 4 dozen each.

June 24, 1904  Empire Day [appears to be an error as Empire Day is May 24] - Fine day but windy.  Went to farm with rest of family had limp (?) Horse came out in the evening & went to picnic at Hope Farm.

June 25, 1904  Fire at Carbonear  today in which a woman was burned to death. Rev.(Dr.) Levi Curtis had leg & arm burned.

June 27, 1904  Day very fine & warm.  Planted vegetable marrow in hot bed today.  (Epworth) League social held tonight in basement which proved a great success.

June 28, 1904  Went to S.O.E. (Sons of England Benefit Society) in the evening.  S.S. Mary Dough (?) ashore at Cape Race -

June 30, 1904  Splendid Day - Left last night for Maddocks Pond with (William) Pike - got 3 trout.  Came to rain morning - Went to picnic back of Lester's (Field)  in the afternoon & had a very good time.
