The IRS and State have began a new strategy this year to deal with 2555 filers. They write a letter back to the filer saying that the return was Frivolous. They attach a $500 fine for filing a frivolous return. The taxpayer must then respond! The response letter cost $129. It also may "flag" the filer in the computer for a series of follow-up letters or addtional scrutegy.
