"Botryoidal Nephrite" (Bot Jade, Kidney Jade, Grape Jade) . Found in Newfoundland in 1984 as Nuggets weighing grams. Prospecting in 1995-97 led to the discovery of several veins of Jade nuggets in a soapstone matrix. Specimens from 5 to 150 Kilograms occur.
Colours are various greens, brown, ivory with a hint of greens, olive, charcoal. Suitable as 'bonzai type' specimens and architectural pieces. Smaller pieces are stand alone jewellery and pocket pieces.
Cut slab colours are transparent to swirled greens and charcoal, crazed greens of many hues, and ivory.
These Jade pieces are reminiscent of Chinese carvings made from found pieces. Also in all exhibitions green is not the dominant colour. The natural shape of pebbles and cobbles were used by Chinese carvers imaginatively to create the final product with a minimum of cutting.
