A Chinese Ghost Story A Chinese Ghost Story (1987)
Directed by: Ching Siu-Tung
Produced by: Tsui Hark
starring: Leslie Cheung, Joey Wang,
                Wu Ma, Lau Siu-Ming.

This lovely little Fantasy/Martial-Arts comedy started a regular craze of "ghost films" back in 1987 which lasted until 1992/93. Leading actress Joey Wang was so successful in her performance as an enigmatic ghost beauty that she
found herself stereotyped in such roles for years. Ching Siu-Tung, an expert in stunt choreography (particularly in "flying people" films), directed this flavourful period film.

Comrades - Almost a Love Story (1996)
Directed by: Peter Chan
Screenplay by: On Sai
starring: Maggie Cheung, Leon Lai,
                 Kristie Yeung, Eric Tsang.
Romantic comedy-drama of the "boy-meets-girl" type,
beautifully directed and acted. Maggie Cheung won a
Hong Kong Film Award for "Best Actress in a Leading Role",
and there are equally superb performances by Eric Tsang
(as a small-time gangster) and Leon Lai as Cheung's
would-be lover.

Comrades -Almost a Love Story
Deadful Melody Deadful Melody (1994)
Directed by: Ng Min-Kun
Martial-Arts direction by: Mang Hoi
starring: Brigitte Lin, Tsui Kam-Kong,
             Carina Lau, Yuen Biao.

Energetic "Wu-Xia" ("flying people") wire choreography sparks this Martial-Arts actioner, starring charismatic Brigitte Lin in one of her last films. The Gods of the "Martial-Arts world" involve themselves in fight and intrigue to get hold of a magic lyre. Not quite subtle, but bouncy.

Full Alert (1997)
Directed by: Ringo Lam
Screenplay by: Ringo Lam
starring: Lau Ching-Wan, Francis Ng,
                  Peter Yung, Monica Chan.
Superb policier by action-film specialist Ringo Lam ("Prison on Fire"), with magnetic performances by Lau Ching-Wan
and Francis Ng (in a showy role as a cunning cat burglar)
Well-modulated suspense dominates this solidly-crafted
crime drama. For fans who like a good -not cheap- thrill
with little action of the slam-bang variety.
