 What We Offer

We believe that our place is to give people every opportunity to have the many needs of their life fulfilled.  Whether it is a place where their children can learn and feel safe, or where they can have questions answered regarding the Christian faith, we want people to feel welcome and accepted.  In fact, churches that put up barriers have no desire to really reach people, but in fact, shut people out.  At Herald, anyone is welcome to come as they are as they look for wisdom to live their lives. In an attempt to fulfill these things, we offer some of the following: Seeker Services - We have chosen to make Sunday mornings a special time for folks who come to our church.  We realize that many expect church to be stuffy and dry.  We purposely have chosen to make our church upbeat, friendly and relevant for today’s culture.  We purposely use contemporary types of music, dramas, videos, and messages from the Bible that can be applied to people’s lives.  Our goal is to get people to come back and see us, but more important, that they see that church can actually be enjoyable, not a waste of time.  And most important, a place where they can meet God. Small Groups - Today in our culture, there is an obvious need for people to feel cared for and accepted.  In what we call "small groups", people have an opportunity to develop friendships, have their needs met, feel valued and be shown they have much to offer to others.  We believe that seekers and those who have found a relationship with Christ should be able to come to a group and be made to feel important, because they are! Counseling Center - Everyone at one time or another in their life needs encouragement, answers to struggles in their life, or they just need someone to talk to.  At Herald, we have trained individuals to do just that.  They have spent intense time in training so they would be prepared to help people with needs.  Our counseling center is open to people free of charge that just want some help in areas of their life.  We also refer people to "professionals" when we feel that this would be more beneficial to them. Youth and Children’s Ministries - The young people of today are looking for a genuine experience of the Christian faith.  They want to see it lived out in people’s lives, and they want to know how it could impact their lives.  At Herald, our teenagers are important to us.  Some of them are actively involved in various areas of our church (such as Sunday morning services), but they also are given many opportunities and activities for personal development and growth.  We believe that they must see in adults the reality of the Christian life, not a phoniness that has been shown to them in the past.  Our youth leaders are genuine in their love for God and this comes across in their genuine concern for the youth.  The junior and senior high programs at Herald have a full slate of events along with relevant Bible teaching.  Our children’s department also believes that Christianity can be fun, exciting, and applicable to the kids’ lives.  Our children have their own church service on Sunday morning, along with other activities that reach out to them in a fun and creative way. Bridge Events - Some churches have no desire to build bridges with the people of their community.  This comes across with the mentality of not doing anything to get to know people.  At Herald, we believe that events that are community wide serve a purpose – to show to people in our area that the church is not out of touch with them.  As an example, sports are a major event with people around here.  As a church, we host a yearly area wide golf tournament, a soccer clinic for kids, have teams involved in city softball leagues, and have members of our church that coach youth teams.  We also host a week long "Vacation Bible School" every summer for kids from kindergarten through sixth grade.  The Junior and Senior high have a weeklong event also that is full of great activities, great music, and relevant speakers.  We also host a yearly celebration at a local park, offering the community free food, games, and activities.  Our goal is to let people know that we care.  At the yearly "Herald Day", an event that draws 2,000 people or more, we have a presence by offering food and other items.  In 1998 at this event, Herald Church will offer a free health clinic at this major event.  We believe the church must be involved in the community, not looking down their noses at it.
