Crime and Violence Prevention Forum

an ongoing ministry task force of the
Metropolitan Washington DC Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

WHO WE ARE

The Crime and Violence Prevention Forum is comprised of Pastors and lay members of the Synod who have a strong interest or expertise in crime prevention, conflict resolution, mediation, security and/or peacemaking.  A small core group oversees the Forum and meets monthly.  The Forum also includes liaison contacts at many of the 75 congregations that make up the Metropolitan Washington DC Synod and several youth representatives.

OUR MISSION

To foster awareness , advocacy and action among the congregations and members of the Washington DC Synod on issues of crime, violence, conflict and hatred within our society, communities and homes, with the ultimate aim of building toward a culture of peace.

In furthering this mission, we engage in activities such as developing Christ-centered study and educational programs, seminars, speaking engagements, youth activities and encouraging social ministry efforts.  We also strive to develop outreach efforts in order to coordinate and collaborate with groups of similar interests including both national-level organizations and local community groups.
