First Stitches, Part 2

Created April 07, 1999 - Modified October 06, 1999

Half Treble
Half treble (H Tr) this term was used where the thread was wound around hook two, three, or more times, and worked off by 2 at a time, retaining the last stitch on needle until all the half treble were made and worked off in last stitch.

Picot
Picot (P) make a chain of 3 or more stitches as indicated in directions, insert hook into first chain stitch made, and work off as single crochet.

Mesh
Mesh (M) used in filet crochet, chain 2 stitches, skip 2 stitches, 1 DC into next stitch.

Afghan Stitch
Afghan stitch should be worked with a long even hook. Make a chain length required, draw a loop through every stitch of chain, retain loops on hook.
ROW 2 - When all stitches are taken up, pass thread over hook, draw through first stitch, thread over hook, draw through 2 stitches, continue passing thread over hook and drawing through 2 loops, these loops look like upright stitches.
ROW 3 - Pick up each of these upright stitches, draw a loop through each, retaining these on needle. When all are picked up repeat 2d row.

(Repeat 2d and 3d rows alternately.)
