Brighter Ideas & Services, Robynn Bryar

FOOD FOR THOUGHT- Everytime you drink extracted juices, (freshly-made or bottled), you deprive your body of 50% to 90% of the nutrition originally found in the fruit or vegetable from which the juice was made. By drinking Vita Mix, "whole food" juices, you get all the synergistic nutrients Nature intended you to have. Plus you save a lot of time and money. Juice extractors cost anywhere from $179 to $299. By the time you consider the hundreds of dollars worth of nutritious pulp that is thrown away, a juice extractor's true cost can exceed $2500 a year.

Hi my name is EJ, I have asked Robynn to post some more about my condition. I was visiting Robynn and spent about a week with her family. While I was there Robynn served me vitamin concoctions in the mornings and another at bedtime. Periodically she would fix me another in the midafternoon. I am diabetic, disabled, overweight, and have been trying to get my doctor to take me off of antidepressants. I keep going in and telling him I feel fine and asking him to lower my dosages but he keeps upping them. I don't know why. I was feeling pretty blue when I got to Robynn's house about the situation. My sugar levels were way out of whack and I had no energy. As Robynn told you before almost immediately after taking the vitamins my sence of smell began to return. I have not had that sence for 10 years now. All the men in my family have lost it. It is just wonderful to smell flowers in the air again. Stopping to smell the roses takes on NEW meaning for me. Well I have been taking the vitamins for a little over a week now. I have MORE energy. My usual routine, for the past two years, has included,A MUST STOP to take a nap in the middle of the day. Today I did not need a nap, I worked all day here. Putting something together. It felt really good to put in a whole day. I have not been able to do that at all. Robynn warned me when I first started to take these vitamins that I should consider not taking the Aloe product in the beginning. It is the one that diabetics usually need to wait to take until their sugars are under control. I told her, I feel fine, I monitor my sugar everyday, I am not worried. Will Robynn was right. My sugar went sky high. I wanted all the good from the vitamins so I didn't want to NOT take any of them. So I was taking them every other day. Robynn called to see how I was doing and when I told her, She said, 'No E.J. TAKE your vitamins leave off the Aloe. Just put it away until later.' Will it has been 5 days now without the aloe. I have been taking the vitamins everyday MY SUGARS ARE COMING DOWN!!! They are coming down, this is INCREDIBLE I do have mesurably more energy and I am feeling GREAT!! Maybe next time I go see my doctor he will finally let me taper off those anti depressants. My dreams are continuing to be very intense. I am loving the nights now. It is soooo goood to dream again with vivid pictures. In the mornings I feel sooo much renewed my sleep is now nourishing me. Where as before I could never get enough of it even with daily naps. I am taking the Calcium Magnisium drink with the Bio Night stirred into it. These vitamins may be expensive but A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP IS WORTH THE PRICE. Everything else is icing on the cake. E.J.

Robynn, This site is SO GREAT for info on VitaMixers ... you sure had a GREAT IDEA!! Especially for someone contemplating buying a VitaMix vs. a traditional juicer. I know had I had access to this info before I bought my VitaMix, I could have saved myself a lot of the time I spent trying to figure out what I wanted to buy. Anyway, reason for my post ... have been reading A LOT when trying to decide on my purchase. I did see a posting from someone just recently that mentioned all the 'juicing' books in the bookstores recommend 'traditonal' juicers and DO CALL the VitaMix a 'glorified' blender. So it may be ... BUT ... if you read any health-type books (such as herbal-type remedies), and I do read these, because I have had a medical problem that has been helped NOT BY traditional prescriptions (with their horrid side effects), but by herbs (that you get in a health food store). ANYWAY ... it seems to me, the books that are written about herbal healing RECOMMEND BLENDER JUICING. One actually recommend the VitaMix. A few of these books are 'Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Healing Juices' by John Heinerman, PhD. and 'The Green Pharmacy' by James A. Duke, Ph.D. Dr. Heinerman has several health-related herbal books out and in each one STRESSES the importance of juicing with the VitaMix. In the book mentioned above he actually prints out comparisons on the VitaMix vs. juicers in amount of time spent on preparation, amount of fruit needed for juicing, actual juicing and clean-up time. The VitaMix was recomended, hands down, every time. Also Prevention Magazine was quoted as saying what a good 'juicer' the VitaMix is. They also did a comparison that he talks about. I am sure these books are available at the library, but they sure are nice to have around if you have any medical/health questions of your own ... I really think they are worth buying. Plus they are very interesting to read! Hope this may have helped someone in their decision to purchase a VitaMix vs. juicer. I KNOW I made the right decision for my family! Bye for now, Jody

Have a Question for the Gardeners Out There ... I am going to mix up my 1st batch of compost from my leftovers to go into my roses (I have about 40). I think this will be my 4th year for my roses. I try to use organic fertilizers (Alaska Fish Fertilizer, epsom salts, seaweed fertilzer, etc.) as much as possible. But, my question is ... as Robynn says, if, when I use this wonderful mixture of goop to feed my soil, and get lots of worms, if I use a systemic fertilizer, such as Ortho's Rose Fertilizer (it's like a weed 'n feed) ... it is a granular you put around the base of each plant to help feed it and good for fungas, aphids, etc., will this then kill the very worms I am feeding? Please respond ASAP, as I feel it is soon going to be time to put this Ortho fertilizer on my bushes. I did use this last year for the first time and did not have to spray my roses with any chemicals at all. The year before I had to spray EVERY WEEK to keep fungas, aphids, etc. down. But last year I think I just hand-picked the aphids off and didn't have too much a problem with fungas. Any replies will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Jody

Ken I am not lucky enought to go on business trips, but I DO KNOW I will be taking my VitaMix on my week-long Summer vacation to the lake this year ... wouldn't want to be without it for a whole week. As for taking it on business trips, do you drive or fly? It is bigger than a tradional blender, the base is about 8x8x6 and the plastic container is about 12' high. It would easily fit into something like an athletic gym bag. But you would want to be fairly careful of it. Read Robynn's 'food for thought' on the benefits of the VitaMix. ALSO, for travelling, the VitaMix is a snap to clean, would be very easy to clean on the road. Hope this has helped! Jody

I went to Follow Your Heart today...I bought a package of Bob's Red Mill soft white wheat berries...this says it can be ground into a fine whole wheat pastry flour and used in the place of white flour for pancakes, muffins, cookies, cakes,or any recipe calling for baking powder or soda as a rising agent...it says on the package for yeast breads use Hard Red Spring Wheat Flour...then I bought a package of Arrowhead Mills Whole Grain Wheat...ingredients organically produced whole grain wheat...they also have the bulk bins, which is where I bought the Wheat Berries...ingredients hard red wheat...I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all this, experiment I guess...I also have King Arthurs White Wheat Flour...this I buy in a bag, I think this is the hard white wheat...so I'm concluding that pastry flour is made from the soft wheat, and it's all called wheat berries until it's ground...in the book (the brown booklet) it says use whole grain wheat berries...so I'm going to do a little experimenting...on the white wheat berries it says use in recipes calling for baking powder or soda...but I have a recipe in the booklet for cinnamon rolls that calls for white flour but uses yeast...I think I'm going to try it with the white wheat berries...also wondering if I could add gluten to a bread recipe and use it...anyway I'm off tonight, kinda bored, and I have LOTS of wheat to play around with...I'll let you know...

Hi Sam, - 1 adult daily dose of the vitamins and the aloe is equal to the sugar of one banana. These vitamins and minerals are totaly safe for diabetics. The only concern would be the Aloe product it can send your sugars out of whack in the beginning. But once you have been on the vitamins and minerals for awhile a diabetic can include the aloe without any problems. Your system should start to get regulated and more balanced just from taking the other products, then the aloe can be added in a month or two down the road. There is another product that is very beneficial for diabetics to take it is called bio thin- It was developed for diabetics and then others found that it helped with weight loss programs so it was renamed and is part of a weight loss kit now. It is also sold seperately. It actually helps to take sugar out of the blood.

5 kids...you'd never put the thing away....first, you'd save a bundle on giving them whold juice...it's way cheaper, and way better to make it yourself, fresh, you know what's in it, you could start them off every morning with a whole juice, and they'd love it...you could make your own baby food for the little one, same reasons, you would know what you put in it, economical, just puree some of the family meal, fresh...bread...you must use alot of bread...you can seriously get a loaf of whole grain bread, ground from the grain (grain 69 cents a lb) ready to rise and bake in 5 min...you'd probably have to do two, so make that 10 min...again you know exactly what's in the bread...and it is wonderful...I think it would be a wise investment for you...the kids would love it...you can make them hot soup in minutes...keep a bowl of rice or noodles in the refrigerator to add to it...and you can feed them all in minutes for really next to nothing...and they will love it...how about ice cream? we all know it's not a very healthy food, and it is expensive...one frozen bag of fruit, like strawberries, a little non-dairy creamer, or yogurt, and a little bit of sugar and you have ice cream and it's delicious...I make it, but my problem is I have to wait til we are all here to eat it...I have froze it, that's works fine too, but it's not the same as the fresh from the machine soft serve ice cream...I make it for company...no one can believe how fast I do it, from start to finish...maybe 2 minutes! Puddings, sauces, soups, cakes, smoothies, whole fruit juices, pancakes... I could just go on...fresh pancakes from whole grain, just a couple of minutes away...I usually make them the night before and then we just microwave what we want...I love this machine, can you tell?

I just made cinnamon raisin bread...the recipe in the whole foods book (the little brown one) calls for cottage cheese, well I didn't have any, as I don't use cottage cheese at all, so I used 1/2 cup of tofu, I had it in the cupboard, it took about half the package (Mori Nu in the little asceptic packages)...I just had a piece of this bread...and it is wonderful...so you can substitute tofu for alot of dairy products...now the other half I can add into some smoothies, or make another loaf of bread later...this recipe called for all-purpose flour, which I did have, so that's what I used, I want to try it with whole wheat, as I just bought another bag of wheat berries today, run out all the time!

I go there too...they have bags of frozen pineapple and mango...which are great for smoothies...they don't sell any whole grain or wheatberries though...that I've seen anyway...I like the store because you never know what you'll find there, last trip they had homemade flour tortillas, I never got one, but my daughters said they were great!...There is also a little vegetarian chinese food restaurant, called Vegetable Delight, everything is made with gluten and tofu and mushrooms, haven't checked if vegan, I'll have to do that next time...they are a little more expensive then normal chinese food restaurants, but the food is incredible...first time I went there was for an Earthsave dinner, which makes me think it must be vegan...anyway it's in Granada Hills, I only pick up food there a few times a year...it's really good...I'm going to have to inquire about the whole grain/wheatberry thing...like I said, the bin in the bulk section says wheat berries, but when you read the little card on it, it says hard red wheat (I think)...I'll check it out next time...yes I know I'm lucky...there are alot of places around here to shop and eat out...I'm close to being vegan...don't drink or use milk, but if I'm out, and get a mocha, I'll get milk, don't use eggs, but if I'm somewhere and someone gives me a cookie or cake, I'll eat it if an egg is in it, however I could not eat a plate of eggs, went to a baby shower Sunday, at a cute little place, they served quich (how do you spell that?)...anyway, I politely refused that, cheese and eggs, I can't do, but they also had fresh fruit and scones, which I had, didn't inquire if eggs were in the scones, just made sure I had a fruit one...I've tried veganism, and it's difficult for me to investigate everything...I do try to buy animal free cosmetics/cleaners...because I have a problem knowing 'dead animal parts' are in my stuff...that's pretty easy...anyway, it's a progressive thing...and I'm toward the end somewhere...

I also look forward to the goodies I get to taste! Veganism is a progressive thing. I remember I tried it a few years ago and decided it was too much work. I stopped using dairy in the home, except for 'special occasion' baking and cooking, but would eat dairy when I was out. I also would accept food offered to me that had dairy. I am doing a lot better this time. I don't order dairy dishes in restaurants any more. But I don't ask ingredients and make a big fuss either. I also can't refuse a dairy meal when I know someone made it especially for me. The first time I went to my fiance's house for dinner, his mom made a special Baked Macaroni and Cheese casserole just for me. What could I do? I forced myself to eat. The damn thing was delicious. The rest of the family ate Spaghetti and m**tballs. She said she was originally going to give me the same thing as everyone else and just leave out the m**tballs but her daughter informed her that I couldn't eat the sauce because she used beef broth. So, at least the daughter saved me from that one. I WON'T eat flesh products at all. You know, I forgot we have a really good chinese restaurant in my town that has a whole vegetarian section on the menu. A lot of gluten meals. Sweet and Sour 'chicken,' and lots of other good stuff. Mmmmm. I'm getting hungry.

You know we all had a good a laugh when Keith actually did it- but I have caught myself doing that to. It is when you are not thinking on auto pilot. The other really important tip Is if you are going to turn the machine on from the off position without the tamper in place or that little center lid. Cover the hole in the center of the lid with your hand. To keep stuff from flying out and redecorating your walls!

1/2 cup brown rice, cooked 2 cups water 1/2 -1 tablespoons brown sugar or other sweetner to taste Place ingredients in container and run on HIGH speed for 2-3 minutes or until smooth. Pour into a container with lid and cool in refrigerator. Shake well before using. Cooks note: Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla if desired. I have never tried this recipe for rice milk before. I have been somewhat squeamish to make it but this sounds very easy. People keep telling me how good it is. I went to a mexican place this weekend and everyone but me ordered it. they told me how good it was and made me try it. Before they took a sip. It was GROSS! Then they took sips and spit it out. They said that it was the worst tasting rice milk they had ever been served. I am going to make this- but first I have to make rice. I wish you could just throw the grain in the vita mix, make flour, then and add water...

Rice Milk 4 cups hot/warm water 1 cup cooked rice (I've used white or brown) 1 tsp vanilla Place all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Let the milk set for about 30 minutes, then without shaking pour the milk into another container ( i use an old honey jar) leaving most of the sediment in the first container. This makes about 4 - 4 1/2 cups. Notes: When I have used cold water and the rice was taken out of the refrigerator, it just doesn't come out that well. I don't know why but its best to use warm water and warm rice (you can nuke it if its leftovers but freshly made is best) I have even let it set longer than 30 minutes (overnight) without it making a difference.

and there just isn't much sediment. I felt straining was a waste of time. I think the VM would cut way down on sediment cuz it is so powerful. I know my smoothies and sauces are way smoother with the VM. I have had horchata (mexican rice drink) before and sometimes it is really good and others times not so good. I guess it just depends on who makes it because they add other spices and stuff. Everyone probably has their own recipe.

Pandora sent me an email after trying the vitamins that you have been reading posts about. Everything preceeded with '>' is What Pandora is writing and the rest is my response to her. > I got the vitamins!Ê The taste isn't bad at all.Ê I divided it up > though, and have been taking it 3x a day, so that cuts down on the > sweetness.Ê That is fine my parents take theirs over the day too that would certainly cut down on any waste. Your body would have to utilize the vitamins more efficiently. Often I take the vitamins through out the day and other times like this morning I made the whole cup and I am sipping while at the computer. When I have let myself get famished I make a whole cup and chug it. Just because I want it. That chases a hunger headache and gives me the energy to make food instead of shoving anything at hand into my mouth. >I divide the Get Go'N in half and mix it with the Bio Fuel > twice a day.Ê That hasn't bothered my stomach at all.Ê I don't need to > mix anything else in with it.Ê I actually think it tastes like punch. That is absolutly okay. That is exactly what I did at first. I usually take the whole dose at one time in the morning now, just because I want to make sure that I take it. > I noticed that it says the Get Go is best taken on an empty > stomach.ÊÊÊ The Bio Fuel doesn't say that though.Ê Is it okay to take > that on an empty stomach?Ê Normal vitamins you are supposed to take > with food, so I didn't know which way to go. I try to take mine in the morning I make up my big cup of everything hot or room temp and sip some while getting ready in the morning. The whole cup first thing in the morning is too much for me to drink fast. But I sip some, get some into the kids, get them off to school, sip some more after my shower, and while I am putting on my makeup. By then it is gone and I get my breakfast sometime after that. They say take on an empty stomach -15 minutes before your meals. You can take them with food, you just aren't going to be as aware of the vitamins in your system they will digest with your food and be absorbed fine though. The Get Go N can be taken after fruit or toast or crackers but should not be taken after meat, eggs, cheese or milk those proteins have amino acids that cancel out the benefits of the different amino acids in the Get Go N - It won't hurt you but you won't get the benefits from either set of Amino Acids- They are canceled. That is why they say eat on an empty stomach so that you don't have to think about what you are eating them with. Some people can't take B vitamins without something in their stomachs. You and I certainly fit that category in the past. I fit that category when I first began taking these vitamins but now I can take them fine. I get to report also that I have never been able to tolerate green chiles or peppers they caused my stomach great distress. Stomach aches and repeating. Just a little bit with my food and I would burp those peppers for 24 hours. On Friday I got a burito and the man forgot and included chiles in mine. I ate it thinking this will be a good experiment with the aloe product- I will go home and take the aloe product and see what happens. Boy that burito was HOT! I am not used to that kind of food - I Have never been able to tolerate it! Usually my stomach knots immediately after swallowing it and I start burping gas from the peppers within 5 minutes of eating it.I was fine I did not have any of my normal reaction. When I got home 2 hours later I fixed myself a cup of Aloe- a Tablespoon with 4 ounces of water- on ice- Makes a delicious cold peach drink. Drank that and never once had a repeat or burping problem. This may open a new world for me- Everyone makes fun of me when I have to order foods without green peppers or chiles. They don't believe me when I say I can't eat them. > > I know it must be too soon to have any sort of results but I swear I > don't have any cravings for sweets.Ê Maybe it's psychological because > you told me it cut your cravings.Ê This happened for me almost immediately too! I thought the same thing. Most people do have nearly instant reactions to these vitamins that is why I am so excited about these PARTICULAR vitamins. I mean really when have you ever heard anyone get excited about vitamins? When have you ever thought, my gosh, I think these vitamins have just made my life easier or better? The incredible part is that you have just scratched the tip of the iceburg. If the vitamins can start helping you within days just think what your body can do with them in weeks and in months? You are providing your body with super (nutrition) tools to build a better stronger body for you. >I went to a party last night and > didn't touch any of the goodies they had out.Ê Very unusual for me. I > just didn't feel like sweet food. Normally I am thinking about sweets > all day long and fighting off urges.Ê Psychological or not, I love > it!! See NO-ONE can believe that these vitamins can really help 'me' with 'my' sweet tooth. 'My sweet tooth is greater than all others!' I know that may be it helped someone else but 'MINE' has more control over ME! These vitamins give YOU control. So even when you do give in and try a little you only eat a little. THAT IS AMAZING!! > I've read that B vitamins help people to not have hang overs.Ê I could > never take B vitamins though cuz they make me sick.Ê I would get hang > overs even when I hardly drank.Ê Well, I feel fine this morning, even > though I drank a little more than usual.Ê I was expecting to feel > yucky.Ê I don't know if it's the Get Go or what.Ê I know it's probably > impossible for me to be feeling any different after only 3 days of > taking them, but it's true. The get go n product is a B combination product- And yes B is utilized immediately in the system. Excess is excreted. So It would make since that your body was able to use these to prevent your usual problem with alcohol. Alcohol also depletes your body of B vitamins, as I remember. I rarely drink but have also always had the same problem with alcohol. I always joked I was a cheap date. One drink and I was tipsy. Two drinks was my limit and the few times I tried 3 drinks I didn't feel well at all. Maybe our shared response comes from the fact that we have never tolerated taking B sups??? I wonder if there is a correlation with other people here. > > I'll keep you posted with more results.Ê So far I am loving them!!! Everyone who tries them does!! Robynn

I'm writing for information on the Vitamix. Why is vitamix a better option than a traditional juicer? I have a great mixer and blender so i'm not interested in those functions. i'm just interested in why it is prefferable to have whole juice as opposed to juice without the pulp. Also what kinds of juice recipes can be done in the vitamix? do you really juice carrots, for instance? do you need to add water? Thanks for answering.

it is made out of the whole fruit...the pulp is very important for you...fiber!...also have you ever used a juice extractor?...it takes a LOT of fruit to make a glass of juice...so this is less expensive...this is meal juice...you have a glass of whole juice...and it's a meal...it's not just a glass of juice...extracted juice is also a real burst of sugar, because that's what it is...I suppose if you had a digestive system upset...extracted juice may be better until you recovered...but it only makes sense that the juice with the pulp is far superior...and it's wonderful too...tastes like a smoothie...if it's a hot day and you just want something for thirst then extracted juice might be what you want...but if you like to start your day off with a good breakfast...a glass of whole fruit juice is the way to go...as far a carrots go...you do need to add water or some other kind of juice/fruit with it as the VitaMix purees the carrots...kind of like baby food...it's not ajuice extractor...but carrots with some oranges and pineapple is wonderful...I still have a juice extractor, it's in the cupboard...just in case I ever want to make extracted juice...have you ever cleaned a juice extractor?...it's a mess! there is a bowl of pulp that you have to throw out...and if it's carrots...it stains everthing...then the whole thing has to be taken apart and cleaned...and there is a little screen that has to be cleaned with a toothbrush...it's an ordeal! the VitaMix is simple!...just one container...rinse out with a little warm, soapy water...quick! no mess!...right now, I have a elderly neighbor, who lives alone, and doesn't really eat very well, she's now having teeth problems, probably going to take a while to get the problem fixed, anyway I try to bring her a big glass of whole juice, that I mix with a little 'green' protein powder...she loves it!...and I know that she's getting some good 'food' into her system...if I didn't do this, she would only have apple and orange juice from a bottle and coke...I feel good knowing I can do this for her...and it doesn't cost much or take much of my time...the VitaMix also has a second container for grinding grains...I can buy whole grain wheat for 69 cents a pound...and grind it in the VitaMix...add the rest of the ingredients...and in 5 min. I have fresh ingredients for bread, ready to rise, and bake...with no mess to clean up...one container, and measuring cup and a spatula, that's it!...no flour all over the place...5 min of my time! It took me a long time to decide to make the investment, I am so happy I did...we use this machine several times a day...everyday! You can get a video from the company, or ask Robynn if she can get you one...it's very informative...I received a video about 6 mos before I purchased, I did take a long time to decide to get one... also are you the Elisabeth from VegSource?

I have owned a vitamix since 1987. Recently, I purchased a TNC and love it. Ocassionally I will browse the book stores and read the juicing books to get some ideas. Frankly, I do not like them because many of them address the vitamix as a glorified blender. They state that extracted juice is better because it gets to blood stream quicker and gives you that extra added boost of energy. In reality, most juice that is extacted is in a concentrated form that God did not intend for you to recieve that way because of it high concentrated sugar content. On the other hand, total juice is not as concentrated and it is in a more natural state for the body to receive. Also, these authors claim that the pulp is difficult for the body to digest and too much pulp is not good for you. Agreed, but how many of us eat the body's daily required amount of pulp? Don't forget that the pulp is reduced to a smaller size in the Vitamix than we normally chew when eating our food; therefore, it is more easier for the body to digest. Finally, it is well known that Total Juice has every nutrient known and unknown God intended for the body to recieve. Basically, we must use simple common since when comparing Total Juice to Extracted Juice.

Hi everyone, I have been taking these vitamins for just under a month now. I want to tell anyone who might be wondering if they are for you. What my experience has been. My husband tells me that my skin is incredibly softer now. My daughter even has started rubbing cheeks with me. I asked her why she kept doing that and she told me because my face is so soft now. I have lost 8 lbs. I am getting really good sleep now. I am waking easily in the morning. I have more energy throughout the whole day. I don't hit the 4:00 slump now, that time when I just want to lay down and die. My energy throughout the day is more even rather than my usual birsts of energy. I really do feel better than I ever remember feeling. It is hard to explain. I have never been a high energy person and I have always been the one to slump. Now I am doing stuff and getting more accomplished both in my personal life and in my work related life. My boss has noticed that I am more alert. He even asked me how much it would cost to feed to all of the employees. He jokes about putting the vitamins in the water cooler. He is kidding of course- but there is truth in his statement because he can see that he is getting a lot more out of me than he was ever before. I didn't have it in me to give before. I think that my boss' wife is interested in trying the product. She has commented on my healthy glow. She asked to see any literature that I had on the company- I took her the tape that came packed with my vitamins. I will tell her about your offer of a sample. I probably should tell what vitamins have been using. I bought the basic kit which has 4 diferent products.

At our house we quickly made a rule. Whenever someone else is in the kitchen with you and you are about to flip on the Vita Mix- First warn the others in the kitchen. Come to think of it- we always warn people, 'I am about to turn on the vacume'- so they can leave the room if they want to or turn up the TV. But the Vita Mix is a shock to the system when you are right there next to it and someone else turns it on. You have to prepare yourself so that you don't jump through the ceiling. It isn't too bad if you know it's coming. The jets flying low overhead in a storm pattern are louder. Does that help?

This is a for instance, I was in the kitchen the other night and my 16 yr. old son came running down from his upstairs bedroom, asking what the smoothie was tonight, I asked him how he knew I was making one ... his reply, I could hear it upstairs (probably had the TV on also). the thing to remember about tofu is that is really doesn't have a taste...it's kinda like flour...flour by itself would taste very bland, kinda yucky...but when you mix it with stuff you get bread, cakes, cookies...all the good things...tofu can be eaten by itself...but why?....when you mix it with things...it takes on the taste of whatever you're doing with it...try dropping some tofu into your smoothies...you add protein to your shakes...it will make it a little creamier (I wouldn't use bananas if I added tofu, as they both will do the same thing) try tofu with strawberries...it's really good! tofu also comes in different styles, soft, firm, silken...these are all the same thing but with different amounts of water in them...for a smoothie it really doesn't matter what kind you use...for the pudding I use firm, especially if I make a pie...have you tried that! double the pudding and pour into a graham cracker crust, top with nondairy topping, or whipped cream if you want...everyone loves this....sometimes I layer bananas in it...chocolate banana cream pie! you can also use tofu to replace eggs in baking...marinate it and add it to stir fries...my daughter loves scrambled tofu...I like it, but I never order it out because I can't eat a whole order of it...just like pancakes...I like them, but after about 4 bites, I've had enough... it's in Canoga Park...it's a great, little funky vegetarian market/restaurant... you feel like you're back in the '60's...the restaurant does a great business, sat next to Justine Bateman once, Mike Farrell was also eating there...there is also one in Santa Barbara, however, last time I was there they chnaged the restaurant to more of a Deli/Take Out type place...if you are ever in the San Fernando Valley give it a try...Where are you at?...for some reason I think it's fairly close...Hey...we'll even meet you there...that's where we always go for breakfast

I'm planning on getting a Vita-Mix, primarily to make smoothies and juice with. I'm mildly interested in grinding grain, but it's not really a high priority. Have any of you used the SNC (the one without the grinding container) to grind in? What's the difference between the two -- blades, container design? My guess would be that the liquid container would still grind things (hey, my current blender does), but might not do it as quickly or with as fine a result. Has anyone tried this out? Or is there some other reason to get the second container? Thanks, -Henri

like the other post stated...the blades are different...I never tried grinding grain in the wet container...but I do grind wheat...I make bread...and let me tell you it is so easy and so good...and very inexpensive...I buy whole grain wheat at Whole Foods for 69 cents a pound...I seriously can have bread dough ready in 5 min. with absolutely no mess...I've got it down...1 3/4 cups grain...grind for 90 sec...while I'm doing that I take out the salt, honey, yeast and oil...add 1 1/4 cups water, pkg of yeast, tbl honey and oil...pulse 1 or 2 sec...let this sit while I put the honey, salt and oil away...spray a pan with Pam...do the 5 pulses 1 sec each 5 or 6 times...put in the pan...stick it in a warm place to rise...this takes about 20 min...this is when I get ready for the day...stick in preheated 350 oven for 30 min and it's done...I don't know if this sounds as easy as it is...but it's wonderful bread! well worth it! did I mention the clean up? Just fill the container about 1/2 way with warm water, add 1 drop of soap, whirl...rinse out...I then only have to wash a measuring cup and a spatula...EASY!

Henri - Hi! There IS a difference between the two containers. The difference is in the blades. The blades are shaped differently as well as positioned at different angles. I do grind flours -- rice, oat, and corn. I am also hoping to grind potatoe flour in the future. I do not grind wheat, due to allergies. I'm not sure how the wet container will handle the grains. I am just wondering if there is interest in getting samples. There is a huge amount of cost involved in sending out samples of vitamins via the mail. Before I make an investment in the necessarry vials etcetra. I am curious how many people might be interested in getting the samples. If you could get a 3 day sample for $15.00 who would be interested? That would allow you to taste the vitamins and you would know that they weren't going to upset your stomach before jumping in and buying them. Some people even feel the results in as few days. The $15.00 would cover my mailing and packaging costs. Then if you decide to purchase the nutritional energy kit (which includes all of the basic vitamins and minerals) the kit I recommend for everyone to begin with, I would apply $5.00 to the first order. Does this sound interesting to anyone. I need feedback. Thanks

I'll send you a sample of the Aloe Vera product, Pandora, You will already have the vitamins and the Get Go N product. Remember the products are very concentrated so you will need to add plenty of water to taste- Other wise the product will be toooo sweet. A touch of apple cider vinegar (1/4 tsp) can be added and a good squirt of fresh lemon juice (add as much lemon and vinegar to taste good to you) along with the vitamins and the Get Go N product and it will taste delicious like mulled apple cider. You can add, (NOT BOILING) hot water for a soothing hot mulled apple cider- Great in the morning that way. Just don't microwave the vitamins- that will ruin them. I sugest starting the Get Go N with a half to a quarter serving if you have ever been sensitive to taking B vitamins. Then work up to a full dose. A quarter dose in the morning then you can have a quarter dose before lunch- there is no reason you can't space it out. My parents are splitting the doses that way. Hot drink before breakfast another before lunch- They like a hot drink at 4:00 in the afternoon. Another suggestion, Many people like to stir the vitamins and Get Go N into a cup of green tea. Just add the vitamins after it has cooled a bit. Don't want to cook the vitamins and diminish the good benefits. One more idea- people make the vitamins up in those sport water bottles and take them to work to have before lunch or for the miday slump or just to sip at their desks during the day. My Personal choice, I never use clorinated tap water to mix with my vitamins unless I have boiled it first for a hot drink. (letting it cool a little before using) This is important though. It is okay to take the vitamins with food but you won't get as good of results as if you take them on an empty stomach. They have to compete with all the other digestion process' if taken with food. Some people need to take them with a little toast or fruit and that is OKAY- But the B vitamins The Get Go N should not be mixed with meat, eggs, or cheese proteins. The enzymes will cancel each other out and you won't get the benefits from your vitamins- It won't hurt you but you will be wasting your money. So it is best to remember take the vitamins 15 minutes or so before eating. Or a few hours after eating meats and animal products.-(Which I don't suppose you do at all being vegitarian)

Robynn, I have just started adding the bio night to my calcium magnesium bedtime vitamin drink. I am amazed at the incredible dreams I have been having. I am sleeping not necessarily deeper because I do wake up but I go right back to sleep easier. The amazing thing is how in the morning I come alive almost with a jolt after sleeping with the bio night in my drink. I have never been a morning person- but now I wake up rested and alert. Before the alarm clock. I am the kind of person that normally hits the snooze button 4 times before I drag myself out of bed. Then I need a shower to function at all. I can think in the morning now, even without a shower. I can move and act. Usually I am just zombie like until 11:00AM Now I can function at 7:00AM I got up and did all my bills which I had been avoiding for weeks this morning. Bills are stressful and numbers are not my friends. I would never in my life have been able to think clearly enough in the morning to pay my bills. It has to be the vitamins - The Bio Night seems to be clearing my head of a lifetime of fuzziness. I am sold these vitamins are making a huge difference in my life.

In answer to your 'Question of the Week' (not a subject I like to talk about, let alone write about!!) But anyway here goes! Having only had my VitaMix for 2 1/2 wks. now, I am hardly an expert, but I know I did not get enough fiber in my diet. I was a junk/snack food junk and a chocaholic to boot!! Since I've had my VitaMix I shop regularly at the fruit market and have bought more fruit in the past 2 1/2 wks. than I have bought in years. And I have to say again, I am SO GLAD I bought a VitaMix instead of a juicer. Anyway, I did have 'the runs' the first few days when I began having 2 fruit smoothies a day. Fortunately for me it was in the evening. After a few days I did not have that problem any more. And I seem to have more energy than before. I figure with all the oranges I am using in the VitaMix I am saving money by not having to take Vitamin C supplements ... there has to be more absorbale Vitamin C in the fresh-squeezed juice than in a Vitamin tablet. So long for now, Jody

Okay. Yes, the 'tag' or code must be typed in right before the words you want to change. If I want to type my name Pandora in bold, I will type the 'lesser than' bracket (the symbol that is above the comma)and then I will type the letter b in lower case and then type the 'greater than' symbol (above the period). It should look like < > but with a lower case b inside it (no spaces or anything else) and then right after that, I typed my name. Everything after that should be bold until I stop it by typing < > with /b inside it. The forward slash means to cancel it. See if this works for you. I am going to look for a book or something that will have a description. Maybe I can find better directions for you. What kind of computer do have? And what browser?

- Some Rudimentary HTML Codes For those who want to put bold, italic, underlining or other features into your posts, here are some HTML tags you can use to produce them. You put the 'tag' used to insert a code inside a bracket <>. The <> and anything you put between them will not show up in your message You need to put the code at the start of the text you want affected, and then at the end of the text with a / in front of it. The / will turn off the effect. Here are examples: Bold: bold Italic: italic Underline: underline Blink: blink size 4 text size 5 text size 6 text red text blue text You can combine any HTML tags together, like this. I never had any discomfort at all. But I already had a lot of fiber in my diet to begin with so maybe that had a lot to do with it. But the discomfort should only last a while until you get used to it. And it's so much healthier to have the fiber. I think you are supposed to have at least 25 grams of fiber a day.

Another question ... you sound like you make up your own fruit drink recipes ... is there a 'rule of thumb' that you use to ensure good taste? Like maybe what fruits go good together and how many to use? Would appreciate any suggestions on this ... I'm really not very handy in the kitchen, but I sure love my VitaMix. Make 2 fruit drinks daily, and after 2 wks. find I have more energy than I've had in a long time. Also was big time into junk/snack foods ... I've bought and eaten more fruit in the past 2 wks. than I have in years. And am enjoying every bit of it!! Also, like Kathy, I was wondering how you get the larger/italic type when you want for your messages. I read your reply to her, but can't seem to figure it out (nor can my 16 yr. old son). Can not find anyplace on the 'Post a New Message' page where it gives size and font changes ... I am assuming we all have the same web page, but I am not very good with this home computer, either. Thanks in advance for your help. Jody

I use whatever fruits I have on hand. You just have to experiment on the quantity of fruit. I don't like my shakes too thick so I have learned what amount of fruit to use to get the consistency I like. I think all fruits go together with the exception of pineapple. And that is probably just a personal preference. Bananas and apples I have to have in every shake or it's just not a shake to me. Regarding the size of the font: It is kind of hard to explain the html codes, but like Kathy said, look at the Quoted Message box down below this box. It is right above the Your Reply box. If you scroll through it, it shows all the html tags I used to make these fonts bigger and italicized. You must type to make it bigger. What ever is in the <> brackets is a code and will not show on the posted message (or web page). Let us know if you still don't understand. It's hard to explain.

And pineapple is one of my favorites. I think that it makes a drink extra special. I also love to jaz a drink up with a few cranberries. And any time a drink needs added sugar- I usually add cherries instead. Page 122 in the spiral bound book that came with your Vita Mix has a section on developing your own juice recipes. It is a must read for everyone new to vita mixing. Strawberries go along way be careful not to overpower a mixed drink with them. Balance your sweet, tart, and tangy flavors. Some fruit flavors go a long ways and you only need a little to effect the whole container. Some of this is trial and error but it helps to read the question and answer section beginning on page 122 through 125 about mixing and blending flavors. This section will save you from most flops. The following is a quote from that section: 'Uh, whats what? If you have equal amounts of all ingredients, flavors tend to neutralize, resulting in a blah, uninteresting flavor. It is usually best to let one flavor slightly dominate and use the others to enhance it. For example a strawberry drink can be improved with a small amount of lime.' Choose the main flavor of your drink and when enhancing that flavor use smaller ammounts of everything else. For example a fruit drink using this method. Orange is the main flavor and base. The pineapple spikes the drink and gives interest. >2 -oranges >1 -apple >6 -3/4' cubes of pineapple (tangy) >4-5 ounces of water (your preference) I always used bottled water rather than clorinated tap. >A scoop of small ice cubes the party size from the grocery store. probably 5-6 cubes for a chilled not frozen drink. This drink can be as is or more ingredients can be added for a completely different taste. 5-6 -frozen cranberries- (packs a nice spike) (very tart) and or the following makes a sweeter cherry as the main flavor drink. >6 frozen cherries (sweet) >Aproximatly 1 small handful of frozen mixed berries includes the following: 3 -frozen strawberries (sweet) 4 -frozen blackberries (Tart) 4 -frozen blueberries (sweet)

I know that Kathy got hers in the mail, she has posted recipes from it that she has used. About the vitamins. They are liquid they come in a sealed bottle from the manufacture- but I have not found a satisfactory way of transporting opened bottles- short of being careful and keeping the bottles upright. That would not be very practical in the mail with an opened bottle. have you gone to the website for Bio-Metics? It has a lot of information on the products. I know I purchased the vitamins on hope (they are as good as I am hearing) I do pass out samples to people who are local and visiting me. But it wouldn't be practical to try to mail them.

I am using a Netscape browser and when I came to this board it opened a new window just for the bulletin board. Now I am actually hooked up to two web pages at the same time, only the previous page is hidden. To get to where I was before I came here I can take a look at my taskbar (which is a Windows feature at the bottom of my screen that tells me what programs are currently open and which is showing) and click on the button which will pull up the page where I was before I came here (in this case 'New Vita-Mix BBS...'). The 'GO' menu on that screen will once again show where I've been. The 'GO' screen on this bulletin board is blank because when you come here a whole new browser window is created which hasn't been anywhere else. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say, I was confused about this for a while when I began using the internet.

Get out your books that came with the Vita Mix. The big one with the binding has a question and answer section about 2/3 through the book just after the whole juice section. I recomed that you read through it. You will find a lot of tips and probably want to try chopping again. The Vita Mix is a major time saver. Try grating cheese or making instant bread crumbs. You will be convert in the seconds that it takes to make these.

Hi David, These vitamins are incredible. Personally I wouldn't call them appetite suppressants- There are no amphetimines in them. But I am deffinitely satisfied with smaller portions. I have a houseguest who has been visiting for a few days. We were just discussing this last night. He is diabetic and not terribly healthy. He said the reason he is fat is because his body and brain don't tell him that he is full or that he has fed his body. So he eats and eats. Since starting these vitamins I feel like my brain knows that it has been fed. That sensation kicks in NOW, not later in delayed way, and tells me that I have had enough food to eat. It is really quite strange at first. My house guest is amazed he said since he has just started taking the vitamins his sence of smell is returning. He woke this morning really happy after a great nights sleep. He had had incredible dreams after the night time vitamin cocktail. He is very impressed with these vitamins after only a few days. The immediate responses that most people have once they try these vitamins are amazing. No one can believe it until it happens. How could anyone guess that his sense of smell would improve or my bone spur would stop hurting and giving me trouble. There is no telling what will start to improve but generally something unexpected does improve- and in a big way.

I just had another conversation with my houseguest. He can't get over the fact that he is smelling things. He said the smells are almost shocking because he has not been able smell things for nearly 10 years. He told me that the only things he has been lucky enough to smell are hot steaming food like soups that are right under his nose. I asked him about his taste sensation and he told me that all he can taste are hot hot spicy foods. Last night he said it was a weird sensation to be sitting in the movie theatre and smell the hothog and mustard that someone else nearby was eating. Again it hit him with a shock when the scent of flowers wafted in his window as he was dropping off to sleep. Then this morning he wasn't hit with car exaust fumes as we walked through a parking lot. He is is very excited- He told me that all the men in his family have lost their sence of smell it is just a bad thing that he had accepted years ago. He is thinking he will get some for his father the next time he visits him as he also has lost his sence of smell.

This is great ... very quick & easy and the ice is not dissolved, but just rather broken up, and the pulp is great!! But you have to blend for a minute at least, or you don't grind them good. Maybe I'll start buying the ones with seeds from now on. You have to type in HTML codes to change the letters or colors You type the code into brackets < >. I typed- font size=4 -and put it in the brackets. The / will turn it off- /font. If you put the word blink in those brackets, then this happens. Or color color The code for italics is just a lower case i Am I making any sense at all??

But I don't use more than 1/2 a pear at a time because then the grittiness doesn't go away at all. I blend for about 45 seconds or a minute. There will be slight grittiness, but it doesn't bother me, espescially when mixed with all the other yummy fruits.

I have never been one to get out of bed a minute earlier than absolutely necessary; so I knew I had to come up with a solution other than making it the night before. MY SOLUTION ... I take a large glass and put all the ingredients in, in the reverse order suggested by VitaMix (if it calls for something like frozen strawberries, I simply measure out how much I need and put them in a small baggy in the freezer); then I store the glass in the frig., with saran wrap over it and a rubber band to keep it air tight; then in the morning all I have to do is empty the glass into the VitaMix container, add the ice, mix and I'm out the door. Usually there is enough left so I can leave a small glass for each of my sons. Hope this helps anyone who can't find enough time in the morning to get things done!! Still have to try the Chocolate Tofu Pudding ... maybe this weekend!! Jody

Great suggestion, I am the same way. Sunday morning before church is the clencher for me. I like to prepare zip lock baggys of my favorite fruits. Like peeling and quartering 2 quarts worth of oranges. Another bag full of pinapple chunks. Bannanas broken into the right size peices etc. With ahead prep I can be creative in a flash.

I tried split pea soup. Using standard amounts of peas and water and seasonings, it turned into concrete almost at once. I mean it. The soup got so thick that it blew out the breaker. It tasted REALLY sweet, but could be cut with a knife. I get similar results with cabbage in soups.

Not enough liquid. Anything you are going to liquify gets thicker so you need to add extra liquid. Especially split pea. It is already so thick without pureeing. Try more liquid next time.

I happen to be a distributor and that is why David and the others have mentioned the vitamins on the BBS. Here is a link you can use to learn more about the vitamins and the company. Check out http://www.biometics.com. This stuff is great. No pills to stick in your throat- No fillers etc. This stuff goes right to the blood- you FEEL the difference in 10 minutes. I will post more about the vitamins later but after I get my taxes dealt with. AHHHHH!!! Deadlines!!!

Robynn, The Vitamix has been great that you sold me-fruit drinks in the morning to get me going and better energy. They help act as a meal replacement without losing pulp and fiber. Biometics vitamins you offer are also the panacea for energy. Tried them in liquid form and felt IMMEDIATE results (unlike the pills out there). Pharmecutical grade really intrigues me too. Gave a sample to our friend who is sick with morning sickness and it helped her get rid of all the nausea!!!!! My wife has gotten rid of back pain within a week. These products are going to put Biometics on the map. Thanks!!!

Oh my gosh, I am so thrilled with these vitamins. When I get that slump in the middle of the day and I start to grab junk food I take an additional 1/3 of a dose of the daily vitamins. That gives me the energy to avoid the junk food snack and prepare a real meal. Then even if I do grab the junk the real true beauty is since I started taking these vitamins is I only eat a little bit of the sweets before I am satisfyed. The other day I bought a giant candy bar at the grocery store. When I opened it I only ate 3 bites. I didn't want anymore. Three bites satisfyed me. Wow!!! Amazing stuff! I figured this out because about 4:00- 5:00 P.M. is when my kids start their homework and I was giving them a 1/3 dose before starting. Robynn had sugested that- because she is doing that with her kids. I took the vitamins too, along with the kids. I have been skipping the energy dive that usually hits me by 7:00 P.M. I am so impressed. And guess what I have lost 7-lbs. This is really incredible. Have you tried the Bio- Night product? I want to try that one next. I am only using the Vitamins the Aloe and the Calcium Magnesium drink. What all have you tried? This stuff is great

Well, if you're anything like our family you have a pill drawer. You know, you open the drawer in the kitchen and every kind of pill that you've ever tried and then lost interest in is there. My wife would try Shaklee, Manatec, NeoLife, etc., etc. Then Robin told us about her vitamins. Not pills but liquid. One tablespoon equals a handful of those horse pills the others want you to take. Biometics has a patented absorption process for your cells. Pills are absorbed at about 10% if you're lucky. Biometics is in the 90%+ area. They were created by a Dr. Ritolo who was/is working on a cellular level cure for cancer. These absorb into your cells at up to 1000 times more than pills. As a consequence, you actually feel the difference in energy. When can you say that about a pill? There are also weight programs and for those who can't sleep there is a calcium/magnesium product and a melatonin product as well. They only have about a dozen products and are super easy and fast to take. I know this sounds to good to be true but it isn't. We've been searching for something like this (hence our pill drawer) and this stuff works. Case in point: My dentist has me in every 3 months for a cleaning because my gums were so bad and bleeding. I try to do all the right things but my body just wasn't responding. I took Biometics for 6 weeks before my last cleaning and the dentist couldn't believe the results in my gums-almost complete reversal. They say the gums are a reflection of the shape your body is in. Mine was vitamin deficient even though I eat well. We're just not getting the nutrients from even our healthy food. Anyway, these are a way of life now and we'll never be without them!

These vitamins are incredible. When I first heard about them I could not believe that they could possibly be as good as my friends were telling me. But after using them I am sold. I have talked to several people who I have known for years who also started taking these vitamins. One woman had had an emergency C-section 18 years ago. She had a horrible scar that hadnt faded in all those years. She has talked about that ugly scar for as long as I have known her. She started using the product and after 9-11 months the scar had completely disapeared. She never expected that to happen and was shocked to discover that it had disapeared. Her grandaughter is the one who noticed that her Grammy's tummy looked different. I started taking the vitamins and my very painful bone spur stopped aching and throbbing after only one week of using the products. Both of you, Pandora and Kathy know from the VegSourse board I have posted alot about not being able to exercise, I couldn't even hardly go out for a walk. I could get around- but I couldn't go walking for enjoyment and I couldn't do any sustained activity that involved my feet. I couldn't even dance (NO impact aerobics) in my bedroom. I posted at the VegSourse on the medical board asking what had others done about bone spurs. None of the advice I have gotten from anywhere helped. I was ready to plunk down serious money with a Chinese doctor- I was desperate for an alternative. I decided to try these vitamins first, thinking maybe super nutrition would get my body ready to utilize whatever the Chinese doctor came up with for a remedy. I never dreamed that these would actually alleviate my problem. I can now go out walking I can do anything I want to I even can walk jog and keep up with my teenager. I am overjoyed to feel normal again. What I didn't believe was possible is the sweet tooth is curbed. Now I can have a totally decadent desert in front of me and eat only a little of it. Yesterday at Easter I ate only tastes of things from my kids Easter baskets and later I ate only a tiny bit of desert. I didn't want anymore. A little was enough. There are no chemicals and nothing to hype you like in diet pills but because my body is getting the nutrients that it needs I am not craving other stuff. I am eating less food because of it and I am loosing weight. I walked down the street and the neighbor called out to me the other day- 'Hey stranger, I haven't seen you around!' When I got up close - I said, ' Well I have been out going for a walk everyday lately' She said, 'I thought you were one of the kids I didn't reconize you- You have lost weight!' These are like no other vitamins- I have tried so many different brands of vitamins for this and that. Always natural expensive brands from the health stores. Never synthetic drug store vitamins- I know those don't do anything for your health- Nothing has ever given such dramatic results as these vitamins.

Robynn After having a chance to use my VitaMix a few times this very busy weekend, and after finally having some time to look over the wonderful recipe books (they all sound so delicioius!!), I find I do have a few questions. As for cleaning the plastic container, I have just been taking it over to the sink, putting in a drop or two of liquid detergent and using my spray hose to make suds, cleaning with a wash rag and rinsing, all right at my sink. No where in the literature, could I find whether or not it is safe to completely submerge the container in water. I haven't done that, but wonder is it safe to get the metal part on the bottom of the container wet. I image some people who are lucky enough to have a dishwasher might want to occassionally wash it in there (one of these years I'm going to put that dishwasher on my priorty list). So is this something that should not get wet or not? Also, in some of the recipes it calls for 'fructose' as a sweetener, and I have never used this stuff (really don't even know what it is) and was wondering if I can subsitute honey for this fructose in most of the recipes. Thanks for your help! Jody

Wanted to let Robynn know my VitaMix arrived Fri. (4/10). I was a little intimidated at first by its size and to think of how much it cost, and that I had to be really careful using it! I am finding out that it is very easy to use and that it's a lot more expensive to 'eat healthy' than to fill up on 'junk food'. I am doing as the directions say and trying the first four recipes in the beginner book. The first three were great! And my preparation time has gotten faster since the 1st fruit drink. My husband has not tried the fruit drinks yet, but both my sons (14 & 16) really like them. Maybe I can keep them away from too much junk food once in awhile. Since I got my machine mainly for juicing, I am so very pleased that I went with the VitaMix instead of a traditonal juicer. Everything tastes wonderful, there is no fruit to waste and the cleanup is effortless. I even found a spot for it on my kitchen counter ... it is rather large! The base fits nicely next to the toaster and the glass blender jar fits in the cupboard above. All very handy!! Anyway, just wanted to let Robynn know I got my machine and how much I like it. Happy Easter, Jody.

Hi jody I'm glad that you love your machine. It may seem at first like it is a lot more expensive to eat healthy but if you keep the machine handy and make the healthy stuff first you are too full to eat the junk food which ounce for ounce is alot more expensive than fresh fruit. I rarely ever make frozen juice anymore I make fresh. I figure that the fresh is deffinitely cheaper than concentrate. Of course a traditional juicer would truely kill any food budget it takes so many peices of fruit just to make one drink. gotta run Easter dinner will be waiting for my family to arrive.

You can use anything that you like the taste of that you can eat. The sugar isn't what matters in making the icecream. If you were to use a liquid a sugar like honey for instance you would have to consider that part of your liquid ratio- But the icecream is going to freeze because of the frozen ingredients. My daughters add sugar. I prefer to make things using frozen fruits that are naturally high in sugar such as cherries or pinapple chuncks. A scoop of fruit juice frozen concentrate adds sugar and flavor too. I don't know what your dietary restrictions are but you can work with just about anything for ingredients. The healthier the ingredients the better for your health. Maybe one of the doctors that check in here might have a better healthier suggestion for you than the artificial sweeteners that you are currently using. Is your condition insulin dependent or are you controling your diet. That may make a difference in the answer that you get. Stevia might be an option it is sweeter than sugar it has an odd aftertaste that takes getting used to. It reminds me of artificial sweeteners- but it is natural. It is used often in other countries as a healthier option than sugar. Of course I don't know whether it is an option for diabetics. You could check at good health store then check with your doctor. It can be purchased in small amounts to try it out. A little goes a mile it is so sweet to the taste buds.

If you don't mind the taste of non fat milk in things this will work and the demonstrators use it all the time because it is so cheap and easy. (real milk) Non fat milk icecubes will work also, then you don't have to add ice to your mixture either. Another Idea is frozen pudding or frozen icecream recipe mixture frozen in the icecube tray. One day I am going to try it with a frozen rice pudding mixture. That sounds really delicious. As you experiment there is a ratio of frozen to non frozen ingredients. Too much liquid you will never get icecream too much ice and the blades can't move (Everything freezes to quickly too solidly.) This is explained in the questions and answers section of the big recipe book- A Must Read Section For Everyone!! I would give you the page number but my girls were reading the cookbook last and it is temporarily misplaced. They were meal planning the other night. Let know what you try and the results you get.

This is a really good recipe, from Meatless Gourmet, I used my VitaMix to make it the other day... Topping 2 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (I use more of this, I put some sugar in a cup, sprinkle in some cinnamon, quite a bit of it, and sprinkle this all over the top before baking, makes a nice topping... Cake 3/4 cup yellow cornmeal 3/4 all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp salt 1 1-pound can cream-style corn 2/3 cup sugar 3 egg whites (or egg replacer) 1 tbl vanilla extract This is how I did it...I mixed the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl, I put the cream-style corn, sugar, egg whites, and vanilla in the VitaMix, and mixed on Variable until smooth. (you can leave a few chunks of corn, or blend until totally smooth, whatever you like)... then I mixed the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stirred until moistened. Then sprinkle the topping all over the top...Bake in a preheated 350 oven, in an 8-inch baking pan, that was sprayed with vegetable spray... Everyone always loves this...and the VitaMix made it that much easier to make

Perfect Bread Recipe You can make perfect delicious bread with the Vita Mix. Even if you have never made bread before in your life. The bread cookbook that comes with your Vita Mix just does not explain the kneading process clearly enough. It is especially confusing if you don't know what to expect from your ingredients. What you need to know is how to use your Vita Mix to knead the dough. Once you have that down the world will be open to you. And it doesnÕt take more than about 6 minutes to get your loaf into the pan and rising. Vita Mix Recipe book page 18 Whole Wheat Bread 1. Heat your water and honey in the microwave on high for about 45 seconds to a minute. You want it comfortably hot on your wrist. (Too hot will kill the yeast) You may add more honey (It is delicious with 2-3 tablespoons) just start with a quarter cup less water. Add your honey then bring the water level to a tablespoon above 1-1/4 cup of water. You don't need to wait on Rapid yeast. This mixture will have started to get a slight foam on it before you add it to the flour below. 2. (Freshly ground wheat flour is too hot for the yeast so follow the directions in the cookbook about adding cool water if you are grinding your own) If you are starting with purchased whole wheat flour, Stone Burh is a common one at the grocery store for example, measure your dry ingredients into either blade container. (I have only used the dry container but the book says either one works fine for kneading the bread) With the lid in place turn the Vita Mix onto high for about 5 seconds. This will create a well in the center of the dry ingredients. You will add your wet ingredients down inside of this well. (Like they show in the Vita Mix video.) 3. Add the oil and lemon juice. Pour them down inside the well. I also like to add 1/2 tsp of vanilla and a 1/4 tsp of apple cider vinegar at this time. Next I pour the yeast mixture down the well. It will fill up the well and then spill out to cover the dry ingredients. Sprinkle cinnamon all over the top if you like. (Or add it earlier to the dry flour before adding the wet ingredients. I often forget and do it here.) Kneading 4. Let the mixture sit for a minute. I like to let the wet ingredients soak into the top a little. I get my best results when the top is fully wet everything seems to mix better down below. With the 2-part lid in place, Turn the machine on high for 1-2 seconds. This will splash up some so make sure the middle part of the lid is in place. Now remove the lid. With a spatula go down the sides to the bottom and pull the bread mixture towards the middle and away from the sides. You will knead your loaf in the Vita Mix for 5-7 sets of the following: Lid back in place (you don't have to lock it now) Turn the machine onto the High setting (this is one set) - on and off in quick bursts just as quickly as you can read on and off-(DO NOT do 1 second bursts) -on and off 5 times. Again use your spatula down the sides all the way to the bottom pulling the mixture in towards the middle. Now your mixture is mixed enough that you won't need the lid any more. (set 2) 5 short on off bursts. Use the spatula on the sides again. Continue and do this for a total of 5-7 sets. The mixture will seem elasticy it will be thoroughly mixed no dry flour and it will be forming a big ball in the center of the container. Do your last 5 bursts to lift the ball of dough up on top of the blades and dump out either into the prepared pan or what I like to do is dump out onto a lightly floured bread board. With my hands oiled, I use a light olive oil, I knead the bread 3-4 times and shape into a loaf and plop into my pan. Let rise and bake. Mine comes out perfect in a 350 oven in 25 minutes. The recipe says to bake for 35 minutes so you will have to watch it for your best time. I also drizzle melted butter honey and cinnamon all over the top before baking. This bread is devoured quickly by everyone who enters the kitchen. It makes mouth watering toast. I tested this recipe with the Stone Burh flour tonight it rose beautifully and tasted scrumptious. Like a raisin bread without the raisins. Happy Bread making. Robynn

BTW...do you ever let the bread raise in the vitamix...do the bursts of 5 and then move to the pan? Dr. H.

No I have never let it rise in the Vita Mix. My GUESS is that it would be a horrible mess to get out.The dough would be stuck to the sides etc. but if you try it let us know. Which recipe did you try?? You know that you can make bread in either container. You can only grind grain flour in the dry container. You could mix up two loafs real quick.

It is very important that you return it TO VITA MIX. Then if you have any problems during the next 7 years your info is on record. Should you ever sell your machine used- you can easily transfer the warranty into the new owners name. If you have any problems or questions you can call me or call the Vita Mix 800 customer service number. If there are any initial problems with your machine call or email me right away. Sometimes a machine might not work right but you have a full guarantee. So don't hesitate if there is anything that doesn't seem right.

NEVER NEVER Ever use the tamper to stir the ingredients with out the lid in place. It will chop up your tamper but quick!! You will think oh- I just want to get that thing on top pushed in, I won't go as far as the blades and then blszipz you have mangled the tamper. My son did it on about week three because he is a teenager who knew he could control the depth he pushed the tamper. Unlike his Mother who wanted to follow the directions. He did it once- when I yelled for him to stop- he did it again to prove to me that he knew exactly what he was doing and that did it. He was very sorry he didn't Know that it would happen.... I am telling you that it will happen!!!! New tampers don't cost a lot but you have to wait for them to be shipped. (About $10 new, Be careful.) Vita Mix says that is the most common problem people mangling their tampers exactly as I described.

No, Not in the least, just the tamper got mauled. They say at Vita mix that, (Don't do this at home Folks) they have actually put a 2 by 4 block of wood into the machine and made saw dust. I bet that would make a very scarry ruining the motor and blade sound.

Hi Dr.H. I'm glad to hear that your machine arrived. If your fruit isn't real sweet, besides adding sugar you can add sweeter fruit. I find adding frozen cherries adds the right amount of sugar, Mixed berries are nice too because they have the strawberries and blueberries in the mix. Pinapple is usually sweet and tangy it adds some pizzaz. Adding a touch of vanilla to the mostly orange drinks when you do add a little honey or sugar is usally quite delicious. Just go lightly as you get a feel for it. I like to take a finger swig taste from the tamper to make sure I have the right mix and then add a little of this or that to get the flavor right.

don't know if you got the dry container...but if you did...when you grind your own grain...the flour is hot...that means you use cool water with the yeast...but if the flour is cold...use warm water...after a loaf that I killed the yeast with too hot of water...I grind the flour...and let it sit for a while...I take a cup and a 1/4 of water in a pyrex cup and heat in the microwave for about 60 seconds, add the yeast and the honey and let it sit for about 5 min, then add the water, honey, yeast mixture down the hole that forms when you grind the flour, add a tsp of lemon juice, and a tbl of oil...this has worked well for me...it took a while before I could tell what the dough should look like, (I add a tsp of salt to the grain when I grind it)...then you just put it in a pan, sprayed with vegetable spray, let it rise, I put it in a empty oven that I had heated on low for about 3 min...it takes 20-30 min to rise, also don't let it rise over the top of the pan, it will fall if you do...bake in 350 oven for about 35-40 min...then I run a knife around the edges to loosen, and it falls right out...the recipe I use is the one in the Getting Started book. 1 3/4 cup whole grain wheat, 1 tsp salt, 1 1/4 cup water, 1 pkg yeast, 1 tbl honey, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tbl oil....Good Luck! I buy the whole grain wheat at Whole Foods in the bulk section for 69 cents a pound, they also sell in packaged, it costs more that way...I think I am going to order the white wheat, it's listed on the back page of one of the books, as I can't find it in a store here...I have been using red wheat, which is excellent, but the while is supposed to be sweeter, and more mild...

They weren't shipping smoothly last week, because of large food service orders that were shipping first.

- I have never had a problem with refurbished units interupt any of my shipments before- I have been told in the past that generally this situation rights itself quickly. I have watched it take no more than a week- then shipments picked up as normal. I have been lucky that my orders have gone in just after shipments resumed to normal status and none of my customers have had to wait. That is until NOW! I am very sorry for the delay. Vita Mix will not guarantee when this situation will be corrected. They cannot promise that it should only be X legnth of time- they don't want to be left holding the bag on unfufilled orders. Anyone who wants to upgrade their order to a new machine can do so, of course the $ difference would have to be paid. The change can be made at anytime before the actual shipment ships out. These are so good!...All I did was peel and cut into chunks about 5 potatoes, placed them in the VitaMix up to the 5 cup mark, then added water to the 8 cup mark...turned in on Variable up to Highest, quickly, that fast, they were done! Then I poured them into a strainer, over the sink, and rinsed off all the starch, stirred and rinsed, them let them sit a little while, I them added the spices, I shook on some salt, pepper, Spice Hunter Clear Broth, garlic powder, and something I have, can't remember the name of it, but it's a blend of Herbs, stirred this all around in the strainer, this got the spices all over the potatoes, as well as squeezed out any remaining water, put some oil in my famous cast iron skillet (the thing is seriously 50+ years old) and covered for a few minutes (to speed cooking the potatoes), took the cover off and flipped them around every so often, til browned...I can't tell you how good they are! PS Just want to clarify, the skillet was my grandmothers, I'm not quite old enough to have had a skillet for 50 years

It was really fast...container looks like just cloudy water, but when you dump it in the strainer, it's shredded potatoes, it's important to get the potatoes as dry as possible, that's why I just left them in the strainer, and stirred them a bit, if you stir them while frying them they kind of clump together, but if you brown them in one layer, and then just flip sections over, it's a different look, either way, they are excellent, quick, and easy clean up...I also used a non-stick skillet, with just a small amount of oil, they are more like hash browns with this skillet

Many of you have asked me about composting and how it is done. A lot of you are interested in composting with your Vita Mixes. The brochure that many of you have seen from the company describes how improved your soil can be when using the Vita Mix to grind your garbage. Vita Mix Corp recommends having a separate container lid and tamper. I do not have a separate container I don't add anything to my container that might contaminate it and I don't put rotten smelly garbage through it. If you would be doing that I would recommend the extra container. The best soil and gardens are full of worms the best way to bring worms is to feed them and they will come in droves. -Once you bring them- if you decide to fertilize with chemicals you will kill all your worms off. You'll want to go all organic and you will be amazed what will happen in a very short time. In as little as a week you will be amazed at the number of worms you have attracted to an area that you want to ammend. (Best time to start this project is now. This is mud season or the rainy season or California. Then you don't have to worry about keeping anything watered.) At the end of the day you will see it is possible to have quite a bit of worm food. Morning coffee grounds egg shells Morning smoothie- fruit peels, apple cores, banana peels (tomato plants love banana peels the best amendment you can give them) left over eggs, toast bits, juice remains, (don't use meat scraps) Evening drink fruit peels, peels from vegies, Onion skin, leftover vegies from plates, tea bags even the paper(remove the staple) milk from the bottom of the glasses- See where I am going with this. Each day a lot of garbage gets tossed into the trash can. The end of the week clean out of the fridge veg bin- everything that is just a little past eating toss it in, grind it up and dump it into your garden. I have a family of 4. I now save about 1/2 a garbage can full- that I am no longer throwing out-Those are scraps that now go back into the garden. I usually do not wait until the end of the day to swoosh up the peelings etc. I usually do it when I am done with making a container of juice. I have to clean out the Vita Mix anyway to make sure that it is ready to use the next time someone walks by. (That is a rule in our house) Before cleaning it I add about 2 cups of water throw in the peels or whatever grind it up on high and pour it into a container I keep near the sink. I add another couple of cups of water to the container turn it on high again which gets most of the pulp and garbage off of the container an out from the blades- pour that in with the scraps for the garden then clean up with a litle soap. The more water the better in with the slop you are composting it goes into the ground better. I routinely pour the scraps all over the yard at the base of plants in areas I am going to plant I don't generally do it all in one place but you can. I like to water it in when I have time or use a rake the next day and till it into the ground that keeps the smell down. another thing I do is cover and area with leaves. the leaves get stirred in with the smoosh and soon your plants will be strutting life like you haven't seen before. They love the worms coming around their roots. The worms aerate the ground. And the worm excrament is the best fertilizer you can use. Your ground will begin to look and feel richer your plants will be noticably bigger and fuller, with more flowers and more fruit. You will be throwing out less on trash day, and you will begin to feel connected to the your earth in a very special way. There is something that snaps loose in your brain when you begin to feed the ground that feeds you. You become connected. I know this sounds weird but it is very true. Gardening with the Vita Mix will be a very FRUITFUL experiment. You can also pour the very liquidy stuff on your outdoor potted plants- I have begun potting them with a few worms whenever I plant in a pot now. And then I feed those worms every couple of weeks. I make it one of the waterings now and then then stir in any chunks with a stick. You can literally let the worms do all the work for you softening the ground. The best way to start is to get a big bag of composted steer manure. Chicken is best but stinks to high heaven. Do this on a cool day or in the cool of the morning or evening and you won't hardly even smell it. Don't work with manure when the sun is hot or you will be sorry you started the project. You can dump garbage first splash it all around the area you are working with. Then dump on the manure- then cover with leaves or grass clippings if it is out back you don't have to cover it. Covering keeps the smell down. The grass adds nitrogen the leaves something else both are good and important. Then keep feeding and covering or rake in the garbage smoosh a bit. Water regularly worms love a damp place to live. Not flooded but they are happy in damp to wet dirt. In a week or so take a shovel out and dig in a bit you will be amazed at the number of worms you see. The worms will crawl all around eating the food and softening the ground. Especially if you are keeping the earth damp for them. What ever you plant will be very happy living with your worms. The worms also LOVE LOVE LOVE the manure that helps lure them on over to where you want them. They will turn that garbage and manure into BLACK GARDEN GOLD!

Here in the northeast (buffalo NY) its been cool and damp enough to just pour the slop on the worked up ground and the worms go nuts. Thanke for the help and the forum looks good. I have not added cottonseed meal. Vitamix sugests this for proper nitrogen. I use grass clippings periodically spread over the area as a mulch. I use leaves the next time I have them available. I dump the slurry of compost as often as I want to. I have no rule that I follow. The most important is that it breaks down the fastest when it is thin and watery. I like to take the hose to it and splash it around watering it into the dirt. Sometimes when I have dumped a bucket of slurry all in one place then covered with dirt I find it still there when I take a shovel to it a week or two later. I find more worms in the area when I have applied it in thinner layers or watered it in. BUT other times I pour a line 4 feet long. Cover with grass or leaves then pour another line the next day right next to it. Keeping the area damp is important that speeds the breakdown process everything halts when the moisture is gone. This time of year it is effortless to keep things damp- atleast in California. If you try the cottonseed let me know your results. I don't even know where you would buy that. I really appreciate your quick response. I have no grass or leave clippings. I use a mulching lawnmower. I'll try it without cottonseed meal and let you know the differences. Cottonseed meal is available at any animal feed store. One more thing I notice a message about so many free trial days left, can you elaborate.

How does your mulching lawnmower work? does it mulch the clippings then spit them out back onto your lawn? If so you could rake up a pile of it to spread in your compost now and then. >free trial days left, can you elaborate. That is my tryout period for this bbs. Don't worry as soon as I call in my credit card # that will drop off. Everyone seems to be enjoying the forum- seems to be a success so I will be keeping it up. I am enjoying it too.

Worms cannot eat anything that isn't bacterialy active; that is, rotting. they derive the bulk of their nutrients from the bacteria and fungi they consume with rotting organic matter, in fact, not from the organic matter itself. As such, worms can be said to eat ANYTHING that was once living or part of a living thing. but, again, not till it begins to rot, which is a sign of bacterial activity. Meat scraps will decompose also but very slowly. They will cause your system to smell, and meat will draw wild animals who will dig it up and eat it. Artichoke leaves, pinapple skins, even potato peels and eggs shells will take much longer to breakdown than things like lettuce, peppers and melons which almost melt into your compost area. This isn't a problem however. It simply is. If it's imortant to you to have the material decomposed quickly then pureeing it is a good way of helping the porcess along. Pureeing before composting will cut months of time out of the process.

---
I always cut banana peels in thirds before throwing into the vita mix because I don't want the legnthy fibers to tie around the blade. Seems like this must have bappened to me once or I wouldn't bother doing it- Now I'm auto pilot. You won't get extra ants. If ants are already present they will enjoy the digs the same as other bugs. I have thrown some bell pepper in a few times to discourage the ants. I don't worry about them if they aren't in a place that bothers me. Where I live there are so many ants anyway. Composting does encourage the natural pests that eat the garbage those are good -the things that eat the garbage won't be eating the live plants. Even the roly polly bugs who are often blamed for eating baby plants- if they have compostables to nibble they are very happy to add to the healthy improved soil by breaking down the organic garbage. Once it has gone through the vita mix it breaks down very quickly. And if you have watered it in to the soil and/ or covered it with a thin layer of soil or mulch you will be fine. I find that the best results are when the slurry of garbage goes down in thin watery layers. It disappears the quickest. Gets used practily immediatly. As for the tomato plants very good to place a banana peel in the hole covered by some soil below the roots of the banana. Helps keep them pest free. Amends the soil to give the tomato plant what it needs while it is growing. I have been getting as many banana peels into the tomato planting area (in my slurry) as possible- And I will still plant with the peel as I plant.

Tonight I needed a juice boost- Orange Juice Vita Mix Style 1 large orange 1 large tangelo 2 oz of water about 4 small ice cubes (from store) Blended on VARIABLE speed 3 till all smooshed about 20-30 seconds -then raised to VARIABLE speed 4 till mixture looks pulverized but not whipped. About 20 seconds This made two giant mugs of very tangy yummy pulpy juice. If you don't go for all the pulp in your drink it can be strained out. It tastes so good sometimes I strain it for the kids then eat the juicy pulp with a spoon- I hate to waste that good stuff. This is the best in your blood stream instant perk drink. The weird thing to remember about oranges when you are making just a citrus drink (no other fruits or ingredients) like the one above- you never want to whip it on high. It gets full of air and doesn't even taste like an orange anymore. You can make delicious orange julius drinks those you whip- and add vanilla extract too. I'll post that another day. A little fresh pineapple is the trick to get the perfect exact flavor I remember from my childhood. (But the Vita Mix OJs are good for you)

I tried to order a Vita Mix recently from the company too. I wanted a new machine and they told me that there was an indeffinite wait time before they would ship mine. I was told that because there were lots of large orders that shipping dates could not be promised at all. There was some sort of a backorder on some of the machines and she couldn't tell what was up with the shipping. She didn't know when the current orders would be filled because of the backorder. I put in my order but then looked around on the internet and found postings about Brighter Ideas everywhere. Once I found out that the price was cheaper I decided if I had to wait I might as well get a better price too. Robynn was very nice explaining that she had only become aware of the shipping problem and said that she would do her best to get the order out as quickly as possible. She asked me to post and let everyone know what my experience with Vita Mix had been like. To let you all know that the waiting time for shipping is company wide and not just for Robynn's customers- I am sure that this is a temporary problem. Jerry

Robyn, Thanks alot for this page. I too only recently bought a Vita-Mix and had looked for comments on the Net prior to buying. There were not many. This will be helpful for those still contemplating the investment. I love my Vita-mix. My husband says I should do commercials I get so excited about it. Only flub so far was shredding potatoes for hash browns. Don't do on High! We had potatoe pancakes and I only had it on for about 20 seconds. My favorite thing to make is the fruit smoothies. I too drink one every morning. Just bought a recipe book on just Smoothies. It suggests buying fruit and freezing it...even apples. I'm going to the store tomorrow and will be chopping fruit all afternoon to freeze. Also looking forward to composting with it. Just starting collecting rinds, leftovers, etc. to mix up my first batch tomorrow. Also love to make soup. Will keep you informed and send any great Smoothie recipes I come across. Again thanks for the page. Look forward to interacting with all of you. Karin

Secure complete two-part lid. Select HIGH, and run machine 1 1/2 to 2 minutes until smooth. Pour into serving dishes, and chill thoroughly or overnight. Makes 3 cups The tofu I used was slightly larger 12 oz (I think) it was Mori-Nu lite extra firm (that was what I had on hand) I also melted the chocolate with the margarine in the microwave...also I used unsweetened chocolate (that was what I had) this made a very rich pudding, next time I'll try semisweet. This is really good, and very easy.... I also made a vanilla iced blended mocha in the container after I made the pudding, this used up the pudding in the container I couldn't get out...and made a really tasty mocha....

I think you have to decide for yourself...I also purchased one because I also believe the whole food is better than just the juice, the fiber for one thing...A juice extractor takes so much produce to make a glass of juice...I still own a juiceman, I put it in the back of a cupboard, but I kept it because I'm not sure I will never use it again...it is such a PAIN to use and clean, there are probably some illnesses where your sysytem can't handle the fiber, and just the juice would be easier on your digestive system, but I don't plan on that happening to anyone in my family, I am a vegetarian, which sounds like I must eat really healthy all the time, but truth is there are days when I don't, or my family doesn't, so my rationalization was that if we had a whole fruit juice in the morning and a cup of vegetable soup in the afternoon, we would get our 5 a day in and it would be enjoyable and easy....I am so happy I made the decision to get this machine...all the people I have made a whole fruit drink for are amazed, because they watch what goes in and the drink is wonderful...the juice alone is also such a burst of sugar all at one time...I just can't see how it would be better....Enjoy!

Okay to answer the default question- The dumbest thing I ever did with my VM. When I first got it I decided to make cookies thinking my machine could do anything. I should have known better- I dumped and entire pound of butter into the container with no other wet ingredients and tried to cream the butter. The motor of course overheated pretty quickly. I thought I had ruined my machine. I called Robynn immediately in tears. She told me not to worry that the machine shuts itself off if it gets too hot, to protect the motor. She assured me that it would work again. I didn't believe her, and I didn't even try it again, until Robynn called me back the next day. She wanted to know if I had finished my cookies- and if the machine was okay. I tried it while she was on the phone and it really was okay. So take it from me don't cream something like butter without some wet ingredients in the container. It isn't worth the heart failure. Lucky

Another way is to soak the chiles in salted ice water or milk for an hour. If you decide to be as daring as my 15 year old son was be ready with sour cream or yogurt to cool your mouth. Sorry I don't know the vegitarian way to cool off your palete after peppers. Does anyone else know? I suggest going very lightly with the ribs and seeds if you must try them. Sparingly- they go along way once they have been through the Vita Mix!! Ye-ow! You should have seen my son run through the house looking for anything (there were no milk products in the fridge)- and accidentally there was a fake sour cream- It was useless against the peppers!

I mainly use my vitamix for drinks, soups and purees. I also use it for making curry ... onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, greenchillies, spices are completely blended and smooth, curry takes less time to cook and I can make it low-fat or fat-free as I please (traditionally the ingredients need to cook in oil to get throughly soft and mashed) Chopping onions and making ground beef and such is not as easy because you can do only small amounts at a time plus it is hard to get every bit out. The food processor seems better for these tasks. Has anyone tried the vitamix neova cookware? What do you think of it?

I was reading the want ads looking for a job. I can across a job description for the government. The article read as follows: Government Employer looking for candidates. Criminal Background required. My brother and I were driving downtown to see a play and we passed a sign that read, 'NO PARKING IN PARKING LOT' Seen in a travel brochure for a place in Nova Scotia: 'Don't take a chance on ruining your vacation - come to us and be sure.' At a Ryan's Steakhouse in St. Louis I noticed a rather humorous sign posted inside the restaurant. It stated that, 'All children must be accompanied by an adult to all bars.' In Grand Prairie, Texas, there is an actual one-way street named 'Wong Way'. Sign in a jewelry store in Owen Sound Ont. 'Ears pierced while you wait'  I once saw a marque sign for a chain resteraunt in Chicago that proclaimed 'Try our 5 new traditional diners.'  Sign seen in front of a law office 'No Soliciting.'  Sign on Interstate 85 in Durham, NC.  NC School of Science & Math.  Guess Road  My family and I were driving to my cousin's funeral when we past by a barber shop. On the window they had a sign that said 'Sorry We're Open'.  'Want to learn to read? Call 1-800-PHONICS.'  I was driving through Webb City, MO and found a Chinese restaurant called the 'House of Hu?'  Further, in Springfield, MO a wonderful little second hand store known as the 'STD flea market' keeps fellow Springfieldians in stitches.  Trying to find a hotel to spend the night in SLC, Utah my sister and I came across a sign on a Holiday Inn Billboard:.....'Continental Breakfast, eat free kids.' Yummy!!!!  There is a Deli in my neighborhood with a sign in the window which reads: OPEN 25 HOURS.  Stupid advertisment on a hardware billboard sign in Newport, Oregon: 'Handyman Studs - $2 for $3'. No wonder Newport is a such a popular tourist destination with prices like these!  I visited a '1$ store' somewhere and there were signs saying 'NOTHING OVER A 1$' and 'EVERYTHING 1$ OR LESS' and then there was another sign that said 'SOME ITEMS MAY BE OVER A 1$'.  I have seen stickers on the drive-thru window at McDonald's saying 'Warning: Hot Chocolate and Hot Coffee are served HOT'.  On a bucket of kitty litter, the warning label reads: CHILDREN CAN FALL INTO BUCKET AND DROWN. How can someone possibly drown in kitty litter?!  List of ingredients on a bag of celery and carrot sticks we got at work.  Carrots and celery.  In the visor that you put on your wind-sheild there's a warning that says: DO NOT USE WHILE DRIVING!!!  While looking through the Safeway sale ads, I saw a coupon that said, 'Stock up and save. Limit one.'  I was in the car on my way to Saskatchewan. When we reached the Saskatchewan border there is a big sign that says 'Welcome to SASKETCHEUAN'.  I recently passed a night club called 'Embers' which was temporarily closed due to fire.  I saw a sign in a restroom that said 'Do not eat the urinal blocks.' There is a funeral home near Appomatax, Va called 'Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home'. I wonder who greets the guest at the front door?  Okay, it's more amusing than actually stupid, buut...On a small, family-owned deli window, rather than arranging for enough letters, a simple re-arranging works: During business hours: OPEN..and at night: NOPE.  A sign seen at a bar in Jacksonville AL, 'ABANDONED VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED AT OWNERS EXPENSE'  I live in New Hampshire, and the power often goes out during snow storms. We had a pretty bad storm one year and the power was out for 6 days. When my power came back on and I was watching the news, I saw a listing on the bottom of the screen saying: 'If your power is out, call this number...'  In Ferndale, MI there is a foot doctors office that has a sign reading - 'Walk in Emergency'  On the voter registration card for the state of Tennessee, there is printed 'Information for the Blind Voter.' Uh, hello?  My wife and I noticed these signs while in Sikeston,Missouri. There is a hearing aid store next to a dry cleaners, and thier signs are butted up against one another. They read:'Miracle Ear''Cleaners' Has someone invented a better Q-tip?  I once saw a sign that said 'Animal shelter closed , Chinese Resterant now open '  Recently, a 'want ad' appeared in the Los Angeles Times with the following header: 'WE DAMAND EXCELLENCE!'  When I was in Georgia to see my cousin we went to a store called Year Round Produce. When we got there we saw that there was a sign that said 'Sorry, Year Round Produce is closed for the winter.'  I'm walking along, right? And I see this road sign under a bridge:WHEN THIS SIGN CANNOT BE READ OR SEEN, THIS AREA HAS BEEN FLOODED.!  Name of a beauty salon in Tombstone, Arizona CURL UP AND DYE.  Sign a few years ago in Salem OR. FREE LUNCHES NOW 75 CENTS  Last time we visited the backcountry reservation office at the Grand Canyon they had a display up about hypthermia. Listed on the side were several things you can do if you get hypothermia. The final one said 'If unconcious call ranger immediately'. I'll remember that next time I am unconcious.  At a local cemetary a sign reads: White Cemetary.  There is a sign right next to it that reads:  DEAD END.  I was at a office and I saw a sign that said Parking for Customers That Work Here  As a kid in southern Idaho, my family would go driving out to the desert. A rusted sign for a auto repair shop also reminded you to: Beware of white horses in snowstorms.  At a school play ground the bushes had grown up to cover the last 2 words so it read: NO GOLFING ANIMALS.  It was supposed to read: NO GOLFING ANIMALS SKATEBOARDS ALLOWED  Recently I saw a sign in front of a store that read: 'New Antiques'.  On a recent roadtrip, we went through the town of Melrose, NM. There is a sign that used to say 'Welcome to Melrose, A Nice Place To Live' but the word'nice' has been blotted out, so now it just reads,'Welcome to Melrose, A Place To Live.'  I saw a sign in front of an office complex.sign that read, 'Will build to suit - Free Standing Available Also'  I frequently pass a $.99 store on the East side of Hollywood, CA., that has me and all friends who pass laughing out loud. The big sign out front reads: '99 Cent -More or Less- Store.'  If that's the definition of a 99 cent store, couldn't Bergdorf-Goodman's or Tiffany's be included?  A sign in an office: Turn off coffepot after every lunch and break.  I lived in Grand Forks ND for a few years and on the main road through town, US Highway 2, there is a sign that reads 'School for the Blind next Right'  There is a Waffle House, that I frequent, that has the 'W' burnt out. With out the 'W' the sign reads Affle House.  About a week ago I was riding in my car through the great state of Minnesota. I saw a sign that cracked me up so bad! It said on it, 'Please leave the roadkill alone'! It was so funny! Who is going to pick up roadkill in the first place?  In Dickinson, Texas, there is a, 'gentlemen's club' called Heartbreakers. On a very large and very noticeable billboard above the club sign is an advertisement for a local church...'Jesus Heals the Brokenhearted.' I laugh everytime I pass it!      In Spain (sign in English): No parking on alternate Thursdays    I work at an engraving store in local mall. We once engraved a sign saying 'Please do not place anything in toilets other then toilet paper'  I was at the University of Houston last week, and I saw a sign on the GROUND FLOOR that said 'In case of fire, do not use elevators.'  Last year while doing a private detail job at a prison in Massachusetts, I noticed a posted sign on the barbed wire fence surrounding the buildings housing the cellblock. Mind you, this was on the OUTSIDE LOOKING IN. It read: 'No Trespassing' How many times do people try to break INTO jail?  (Jack's page)Our Porch www.paradise-web.com/plus/plus.mirage?who=ourporch

First of all I want to say that this is going to be a great help...we can all share!...Thanks Robynn!...Why I love my VitaMix...I have only had it a week and one day....these are the things I've done so far...Smoothies...Whole Fruit Juice....About 6 loaves of bread...brought 2 to work for friends yesterday...hash browns (grated the potatoes)...tofu pudding....oh...pancakes...I make them ahead, keep them in the refrigerator, and we just heat them in the microwave...Hot Soup...Iced Blended Mochas...Salsa...And I am still learning...Everything has turned out great! I wanted a VitaMix for over 6 months...it took me a long time to decide to make the investment...I am so glad I did...it's quick, it's easy, I can't believe the bread making...took me no more than 15 min to get two loaves of bread ready yesterday...with no mess to clean up...just whirl a little hot soapy water in the VitaMix and rinse out...and put the salt, oil and honey away...I am buying whole grain wheat in bulk...don't even know what I paid...I'll check it out next time...but it's not very much...What I'd like to learn here is what other's do with their machines...as I am just new to VitaMix'n...Here's one thing I also do...I buy my dog dry dog food, but he likes something in it...so I have been buying him cans of vegetarian dog food ('cause I can't stand the smell of the others)...and it's made of rice and vegetables...anyway I cook a big pan of rice, and make a Hot Soup out of vegetables I have on had, mix it into the rice and keep it in the refrigerator...so much cheaper than canned food and so much better for Bubba and he loves it! (he's a really BIG dog...so he eats alot) So let's all share what we do with our machines...Thanks again Robynn...this is going to be fun!

I don't even remember how old my Vitamix is. I got it years ago and it is a faithful workhorse. I really enjoy grinding my own wheat and making bread with it. The basic whole weat recipe is a heavy bread and is very good toasted with butter! UmmmmmYumm! When I got my machine, you could order wheat in a 5 gallon bucket, which I did. I am still using that wheat. It has stayed fresh and good all this time because it is whole. I also make cole slaw by throwing in cabbage and water, buzzing it up, and straining the water out. Things like that are so easy with this machine. And trust me, you can't do with blenders and food processors what you can do with a Vitamix. OK, now Vitamix Corp., you owe all of us here on RB's forum SOMETHING for our loyalty! LOL!!! www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/6732/family.jpg

I get to be the first to answer the question of the week- what was it?- Oh yes, I love my VM mostly because- This is probably not glamorous but I love the Vita Mix because my teeth aren't what they used to be. I can make chicken salad and meat sandwiches that taste scrumptious and I can eat the meat that way. I can't chew meat anymore. But when I run my meat through the VitaMix with some of the pan drippings or gravy- It is quick, delicious, and sastisfying. it isn't at all like eating babyfood. I run on the lowest number I can get away with.(between 2 and 4) My husband's favorite use of the machine is making the icecreams.

I have heard that you can actually make fresh hamburger with the Vita Mix. Have you tried that too? I use my vitamix so much it is hard to say what is my favorite thing to use it for. but I am going to say the morning smoothy drinks. It is important as the morning shower before going off to work. I take a huge plastic cup full with me in the morning in the car. It both wakes me up and soothes me while giving me a great vitamin boost. Early in the morning you can feel the fruit energy coursing through your veins. That is my favorite!! It brings me to life in the morning. Speaking of which it is shower time.

Welcome i hope you enjoy and come back a lot. Please bare with me as I learn how to run this forum- learn html- and figure out how to make this a bit fancier. Feel free to EMAIL me with your likes and dislikes Just don't expect instant fixes because I am learning here. Feed back is good!! So let me have it. Thanks. I hope you all enjoy. It has been hard work getting this far. Trying to set up web pages has made me feel like a VIRTUAL IDIOT. I have made several pages with working links that were very pretty but I can't figure out how to make them work out here in cyber-space. Expect lots more to come as I figure this out. Robynn, one thing that may help you is to right click on pages you find interesting, and then choose 'view source' and it will bring up the html codes for that page. You can even save it to a file it you like, and go thru it and see how the different codes affect the appearance of the page. There is a great book on doing HTML entitled 'Teach Yourself HTML 3.2 in 24 hours' by Dick Oliver, available at Sam's Club. It is SO good and altho I have not used it as directed, i.e., a lesson a day...I learn from it almost daily. I just skip around in it and find what I need to know in any given situation. Get it, it will really give you confidence. There are some good sites on the internet, too, but my computer crashed and I don't have those links. You can search, using HTML in the search string and find lots of them, tho. There is one somewhere called 'The 10 Commandments of HTML' that is really good. Hang in there. A year ago I don't think I even knew what HTML stood for! LOL!
