EDLIN for Windows 95/98!?!

Register EDLIN (or in this case DOS Edit) as a valid choice to edit .html, .txt and other files...Here's how:

Customize Windows' right-click menus:

This example gives you an extra choice to edit .txt files with DOS Edit instead of Notepad!
If you're an EDLIN fan, I'm sure you can figure out how to include that choice as well...

  1. Double-click on the My Comptuer Icon
  2. Select View and Folder Options
  3. Select the File Types Tab
  4. Scroll down and double-click on Text Documen
  5. Click the New button (lower left)
  6. Type in DOS &Edit
    1. Note: There is no space between &Edit
  7. Hit the TAB key on the keyboard or click on Application used to perform action witht he mouse
  8. Type in COMMAND.COM /K EDIT (or EDLIN, hehe)

You can also edit .html files with Notepad or DOS Edit this way. Just add custom commands...

You can make windows do virtually anything with anything this way... It's great! I use it to process certain files with batch files, etc. Gives you back all the power you had with DOS and then some.
