COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BALLOONING

How many people can a balloon carry?
We operate four different hot-air balloons and can carry from two to eight passengers depending upon the size of the envelope and the flight program chosen. To give you an idea of size, our largest balloon stands as tall as a seven story building.

What type of fuel is used?
Clean burning propane fuel that is carried in 10 or 15 gallon tanks.

Where & When Do We fly?
Flight locations vary according to wind speed and direction (both ground winds and winds aloft). Our daily flights are scheduled shortly after sunrise when the Earth is cool and the winds are gentle.

How long does the flight last?
The actual flight time is scheduled for one hour, however, many conditions can influence flight time such as weight, air temperature and density, winds aloft and on the ground, fuel management and the availability of landing sites. SAFETY IS ALWAYS OUR TOP PRIORITY!!

Does a Balloonist Use Flight Instruments?
Yes. An altimeter to indicate altitude, a variometer that displays rate of vertical movement, and a temperature gauge to show interior and exterior air temperatures. In addition to these flight instruments, there are pressure gauges and fuel level indicators on each propane tank. One of the most important instruments is the two-way radio that enables the pilot to communicate directly with the ground support crew.

Is Commercial Ballooning Regulated?
Yes. Our commercial pilots are FAA certified and all of our balloons are registered and inspected regularly at FAA repair stations. Our insurance meets the requirements of the California PUC for commercial balloon flights, and our passenger vehicles are PUC certified as required by law (TCP 10182C). All or our pilots are current members of the Professional Balloon Pilots Association of Napa County, Inc.
