You Know Who You Are

Frosty-smooth hatreds, prisonlike ruts.
Slovenly habits, narrow grooves, shortcuts.
Many a lost season, small money, no guts.
Doors unmarked by the fists of faith.
Blind air unstirred and unsuspecting.

Hey, I’ve done some reading and I can tell you:
It’s a beautiful day in the imperium.
Great mansions fairer than cursed jewels
lie fastened to the green hills.
Atop this crane one can see the final moments
of the sacred obelisks as they begin to fall.
This wrecking ball we’re all riding
simply refuses to respond to anyone’s commands.
I can see what’s coming as well as any man.
The tide of time is rising, languages are drowning,
and the bulldozers keep growling
long after the flames have died.

A less-than-viable desire for comfort takes hold.
It doesn’t bother to read or write.
Only prays in bright casinos, wears blinders, has lied,
lacks ambition, won’t be bold, loves its bingo, can’t be told
hates its children, and growing old.
